This writer feels that communication is a very significant aspect of the educational process. Upon assuming the principalship at Winchester High School, action was undertaken to aid the development of good lines of communication between the administration, faculty, student body and community. Basically, four distinct steps were pursued in an attempt to develop and improve upon the communication system at Winchester High School.

Communication with the public is an essential facet of any school-community relations program. This study examines both external and internal communication methods. Before a school district can have a purposeful school-community relations program, the internal communication of the school personnel needs to be working effectively.
The survey used for this field experience was developed by the writer to determine the effectiveness of the Casey School District's school-community relations program. This telephone survey consists of eleven questions concerning an awareness of school news. One hundred people were randomly called and asked to respond to the survey.

The purpose of the field experience was to improve the public relations program in the Mattoon Community Unit School District #2, Mattoon, Illinois. Since no one had been specifically assigned the responsibility for co-ordination of public relations, it was decided that a public relations committee would be established under the direction of the assistant superintendent of schools. I was in charge of the committee and was directed to report to the assistant superintendent of schools.
