Identifying Youth Appeals In Alcohol Alternative Social Media Content Through Framing, Melina Oneal
Identifying Youth Appeals In Alcohol Alternative Social Media Content Through Framing, Melina Oneal
West Chester University Master’s Theses
Proposed regulations for alcohol advertising prevent beverage companies from targeting people under the legal drinking age. However, similar regulations for alcohol alternative beverages are less explored, which could allow alcohol alternative products to create awareness for alcoholic beverages among youth. Alcohol alternatives beverages, including no-alcohol and low-alcohol products, are increasing in popularity and can function as compliments to alcoholic products to decrease the total alcohol volume consumed or as substitutes for alcoholic products. Framing theory can be operationalized through the Content Appealing to Youth Index, an index of content elements found in research literature to be appealing to youth, to …

Come Close And Listen: Exploring The Intimacy Of Audio Media, Eleanor Kingwell Sharples Hoover

This thesis aims to demonstrate the power of the audio medium to connect speaker and listener, as a result of the uniquely intimate nature of the medium. Three interviews were conducted with individuals situated in different areas of the audio media landscape; …

Transitioning College Media From Print Focused Business Models To Digitally Focused Business Models, Celina Oseguera
Journalism
The noticeable downturn in print advertising indicates a need for change in the news industry business model. College media is not immune to this decline and need for change. The Umbrella Effect: The Importance Of Converging Student Media At A University, Karlee Prazak
Journalism
Journalism today is much more than a single reporter, news anchor, photographer or videographer specializing in a single skill. Journalists today need to be multimedia journalists who have skills that encompass anything from writing a story to editing video. Currently, at California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly), journalism students are learning these skills, but they are learning them separately. Within the three concentrations offered by the journalism department — broadcast, news/editorial and public relations — there are the three student media outlets: Central Coast PRspectives, Cal Poly TV, KCPR radio and the Mustang Daily newspaper. Few students, however, …

In particular, the author examines two key elements of the political mass communication concept: press freedom and media access. Can neo-populism be understood without an assessment of media politics? Do political pressure and control of media content, combined with widespread access to different channels of mass communication strengthen neo-populism in Latin American? The author concludes that while Latin American countries are …
