Indonesians are taught by the government that communism is a devil trying to rip the country’s democratic and religious values. The propaganda started with a ‘coup attempt’ perpetrated by the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) on September 30, 1965 that left several army high ranking officers killed. The putsch then justified a state-supported genocide throughout the country that claimed up to 1.5 million of suspected PKI supporters. Whether the coup attempt happened and who masterminded the tragedy has remained unanswered, and the victims have yet to find justice until now. The formal adoption of public service-oriented broadcasting (PSB) in countries undergoing political transition in Asia is increasing. However, this initiative is not protected by strong regulations. For instance, Indonesian PSB, which is represented by RRI (Radio of the Republicof Indonesia) and TVRI (Television of the Republic of Indonesia), remains difficult to realize. The arrival of universal ideas to establish PSB since two decades ago in the country lacks public engagement. Fokus penelitian ini melakukan analisis struktur jaringan komunikasi dalam gerakan sosial lingkungan pada komunitas adat Samin di Pati Jawa Tengah, khususnya analisis faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi sentralitas jaringan komunikasi dan kontribusinya untuk mendorong partisipasi masyarakat dalam suatu gerakan sosial lingkungan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dan kualitatif, mencakup analisis struktur jaringan komunikasi dengan UCINET dan analisis statistik dengan Path Analysis. Dalam politik, kelompok minoritas sering berbenturan dengan etnis atau isu-isu agama. Tetapi, kita telah menyaksikan banyak pemimpin minoritas berhasil terpilih sebagai eksekutif politik. Pemimpin minoritas menggunakan strategi khas selama kampanye politik. Alih-alih menggunakan pendekatan rasional, pemimpin minoritas cenderung menggunakan pendekatan irasional. Kami melakukan analisis isi dari tulisan yang dipublikasikan di fanpage Facebook pemimpin minoritas selama 30 hari kampanye gubernur. This essay examines The Life of Franklin D. Roosevelt, a comic book distributed internationally by the Office of War Information (OWI) in late 1942, as a creative form of international propaganda. Drawing from existing research in comic scholarship, narrative theory, and visual inquiry, this case study suggests that OWI’s booklet represented a fusion of verbal and visual appeals, which together worked to produce a potent depiction of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s character traits and exceptionality. The analysis concludes that this depiction ultimately presented the president as the protagonist of a romantic quest narrative, one that actively invited foreign readers to …

Recent research on Muslim populations has offered interesting but limited insights about values preferences. This mixed-methods study examines the prevalence of support for patriarchy among a sample of religious Muslim university students in Southern Thailand using items from the World Values Survey. It also investigates the durability of these preferences by examining correlations between support or opposition to patriarchal values with preferences towards courtship practices, and elements that influence respondents’ views on gender roles, particularly related to the contemporary socioeconomic and political situation facing the Muslim minority of Southern Thailand.

Right wing populism is on the rise. Through the use of othering, right-wing groups delimit their own identities while excluding others. The purpose of this chapter is to shed light on how European mediated public spheres (such as reader responses to media discourse) constitute an important domain of identity articulation and struggle through the discursive construction of the ‘Other’. In this case, the others come from the Central and Eastern European countries that are perceived as newcomers to Western Europe due to the consecutive enlargements of the European Union. Short-term missions participants encounter difference in purportedly captivating ways. Current research, however, indicates the practice does not lead to long-lasting, positive change. Brian M. Howell (2012) argues the short-term missions experience is confined to the limitations of the short-term missions narrative. People who engage in short-term missions build assumptions, seek experiences, understand difference, and convey meaning, as a result of this narrative. The Role Of Familiarity In Shaping Country Reputation, Dane M. Kiambi

This study examines inputs that contribute to country concept, specifically the country reputation of Ghana among Americans. The results of a structural equation model indicate that familiarity is a key mediator between participants' experiences with the country and Ghana's country reputation. It is found that the participants' experiences with Ghana affected the reputation of that country positively but indirectly through the mediating role of increased familiarity. Practitioners of international public relations and public diplomacy could benefit from the use of strategies and tactics that would increase the familiarity of the U.S. public with sub-Saharan African countries.

China is identified as posing a key challenge to US national security interests in cyberspace. These threats are incurred across the spectrum of conflict, ranging from low-level crime, to network penetration, to cyberattacks that have the potential to cause major physical destruction.
