This article discuses about The Indonesian National Defense Forces (Tentara Nasional Indonesia/TNI) who has been experiencing a shift from praetorian military to professional military because of fundamental change within Indonesian society after the end of the Soeharto’s regime in 1998 which is followed by a transition of power from New Order to reformed government. That shift can be seen through some issues related to territorial institutions, military business, and relation between TNI and The Ministry of Defense (Departemen Pertahanan). This research attempts to show that active role of agencies allows an adequate civil–military relation to be established despite of some constrains to the relationship between the two. Employing qualitative approach to assess civil–military cooperation in empowering Papuan society, the case study shows how the military and civilian collaborated to subdue the social tension in a territory prone to conflict. The result suggests that military component took pivotal role in maintaining peace and national security in Papua. Through its history, Indonesian government planned Papua development with military’s involvement on one side, yet without any attempt to embrace the subject of …

This article argue that “Chinese-ness” is an achievable entity to a social group with indigenous cultural identity. Previous studies tend to define ethnic identity as a single and objective entity. This study offers a new understanding on ethnic identity. Identity is defined as a process to identify a certain collectivity in which an individual feels he/she belonged to, while ethnicity is one of the manifestations of collectivities. Thus, identity is a subjective process, where each individual plays a significant role in determining his/her collectivity as his/her alter-ego. The article aims to construct an analytical model to explain why the presence of Sundanese political leaders at the national level is relatively low despite that they are the second largest majority group in Indonesia. The model focuses on historical factor, social network, culture, as well as the role of local government and society. The focus of this paper is the dynamic relationship in automobile industry between entrepreneur and the power in 1969-1998. The length of this study can be divided in three periods: seeking the industrial form, going to maturity, and realizing the industrial autonomous. Looking back to the Old Order and analyzing along three periods, this research has found that the structure transformed the interactions between actors—“the shifting patronage”. Dengan memfokuskan analisisnya atas kasus Salafisme di Indonesia dan internet, tulisan iniberargumen bahwa tidaklah akurat pandangan yang menyatakan adanya ketidaksejalananantara internet dan agama yang sebenarnya lebih didasarkan pada teori sekularisasi yangmenekankan ketidaksepadanan hakiki antara agama dan modernitas. This paper tries to enrich three perspectives for the study of creative industry, cultural entrepreneurship, social contract, and contextual knowledge, by employing an institutional approach and argues that institutional embbededness plays a vital role in promoting creative fashion distro (distribution store) in Bandung that historically well-known city of fashion. Qualitative method has been used to collect data from various informants. Cultural and social capital is important in the development of industrial cluster of ceramic art craft. This paper describes and explains the role of cultural and social capital in the development of industrial cluster of ceramic art craft in Kasongan. This paper also describes and explains the dynamics of domination and resistance among entrepreneurs in the cluster.
