Crossing Offline And Online Media: A Comparison Of Online Advertising On Tv Web Sites And Online Portals, Louisa Ha

This paper presents findings of a study comparing the advertising on the web sites supported by offline media and on the dot.com media that only have online presence. The study analyzes the advertising strategies of leading U.S. TV networks' web sites and online portals, which respectively represent web sites with strong offline media support and web sites with no offline media counterparts respectively. TV networks' advertising strategies were identified based on a spectrum of brand extension and brand integration strategies. The mainstream media in the United States is an institutional arrangement of structural power within the political economy of capitalist society. The concentration and centralization of the media corporations creates the structural constraint for ideological social control. A few multinational corporations control a vast amount of media access that creates a filtering process for information. The mainstream media is extremely powerful in American society. Self-Esteem, Television Viewing Behavior, And Parasocial Interaction With A Favorite Television Personality, Sarah Beth Neighbor

This study examined the role of television personalities, television viewing behavior, and self-esteem, on the development of parasocial interaction. Two hundered and twenty six undergraduate and graduate students responded to a questionnaire that asked the students to report who their favorite television personality was as well as their television viewing behavior. In addition, they reponded to statements measuring their level of parasocial interaction with their favourite television personality and their level of self-esteem.

Broadcasting as a field of study is at least 75 years old. Part of the discipline’s folklore has it that Edward R. Murrow took the first radio announcing class ever offered in the U.S. at the then Washington State College in 1928. “It was called community drama, in order to qualify as an academic course,” explained Alexander Kendrick, one of “Murrow’s boys” and the initial biographer of the legendary newsman (Kendrick, 1969, p. 100). McKinley K-5 Elementary School created and mass-produced a multi-media CDROM correlating with the Social Studies Standards and Benchmarks of Muscatine Community School District. Each grade level designed and developed lyrics and music about the related grade level curriculum. Some classes created a multimedia presentation while others gave a fine arts program. This was a student-centered, hands-on activity that was formed during the 2001-2002 school year.
