Faculty Perceptions Of Teaching Information Literacy To First-Year Students: A Phenomenographic Study, Lorna M. Dawes

This study examines faculty perceptions of teaching information literacy and explores the influence of these perceptions on pedagogy. The study adopted an inductive phenomenographic approach, using 24 semi-structured interviews with faculty teaching first-year courses at an American public research university. The results of the study reveal four qualitative ways in which faculty experience teaching information use to first year students that vary within three themes of expanding awareness. The resulting outcome space revealed that faculty had two distinct conceptions of teaching information literacy: (1) Teaching to produce experienced consumers of information, and (2) Teaching to cultivate intelligent participants in discourse …

Family kinkeepers enact an important role centered on interaction and maintaining family relationships. The researchers studied kinkeeping communication in light of mediated communication, topics engaged, and kinkeepers’ assessments. Thirty-four self-identified kinkeepers kept an interaction diary over 2 weeks. Their 275 reports represented 1,487 interactions using largely mediated communication channels (text, telephone, e-mail, social media), centered on everyday activities, rituals, and health and safety. Despite potential complications of the role, kinkeepers reported high agreement and openness with family members, little conflict, and overall satisfaction with their interactions. The purpose of this inquiry was to explore the lived experiences of multiethnic-racial individuals (i.e., individuals with parents from different ethnic-racial groups). In-depth interviews were conducted with 29 adults from the United States with mixed ethnic-racial backgrounds ranging in age from 18 to 52 (female n = 20, male n = 9). We identified a number of themes related to perceived benefits (e.g., pluralistic world views, stronger sense of self) and challenges (e.g., identity tensions, communal concerns) of having a mixed heritage. My interest in public memory explains why news coverage leading up to President Obama’s inauguration rankled me. The endless news cycle kept repeating trite statements that announced that the civil rights struggle had ended. Reports quoted public officials and former civil rights activists who described Obama’s election as the “fulfillment,” “embodiment,” “culmination,” and “validation” of Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream. The inauguration took place the day after Martin Luther King Day, and Obama delivered a pre-inauguration address in front of the Lincoln Memorial, the same location where King delivered his 1963 speech. Postmodern and poststructural approaches to organizational communication are marked by an emphasis on ruptures, disjunctions, tensions, instabilities, and other inconsistencies as a part of everyday organizational life. This emphasis is part of an attempt to question, critique, and often compromise the normalized, mundane power structures that regulate organizational life. By questioning and critiquing, these approaches reveal norms and power structures as contingently constructed with particular interests at play. This contrasts with more traditional assumptions that treat norms and power structures as natural, neutral, and stable constructions.

The Role Of Familiarity In Shaping Country Reputation, Dane M. Kiambi

This study examines inputs that contribute to country concept, specifically the country reputation of Ghana among Americans. The results of a structural equation model indicate that familiarity is a key mediator between participants' experiences with the country and Ghana's country reputation. It is found that the participants' experiences with Ghana affected the reputation of that country positively but indirectly through the mediating role of increased familiarity. Practitioners of international public relations and public diplomacy could benefit from the use of strategies and tactics that would increase the familiarity of the U.S. public with sub-Saharan African countries.

Background: Disparities in hypertension control persist for African American Veterans.

Objective: To enhance cultural relevance of hypertension control self-management education, in a multisite, stratified randomized trial, we tested an interactive Veteran-to-Veteran storytelling digital video disk (DVD) intervention created with Veteran partners, versus an education-only DVD comparison.

Methods: At 3 VA facilities, African American Veterans with uncontrolled hypertension were randomized to storytelling DVD intervention or didactic comparison DVD and followed for 6 months. We hypothesized that follow-up blood pressure (BP) would be lower among Veterans in the intervention group.

This qualitative study is the first known effort to define the differing perceptions of public relations leadership at three distinct career points and explore the leadership development gaps and needs from these varied perspectives. Semistructured interviews with senior public relations practitioners, young professionals, and current students in the United States bring needed depth and clarity to prior scholarship on leadership development, a growing concern within the public relations industry around the world. งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาการเปิดรับ การจดจำ ทัศนคติและความตั้งใจซื้อของผู้ชมต่อตราสินค้าที่มีการโฆษณาแฝงและปัจจัยที่มีอิทธิพลต่อความตั้งใจซื้อของผู้ชมจากการทำโฆษณาแฝงในรายการเกี่ยวกับอาหารบนยูทูบ ได้แก่ รายการ GGcooking และล้างตู้เย็นและอิ่ม TIPS โดยใช้วิธีการวิจัยเชิงปริมาณ ด้วยการสำรวจโดยใช้แบบสอบถามกับผู้ชมที่เคยรับชมรายการ จำนวนรายการละ 200 คน รวม 400 คน ผลการวิจัย พบว่า กลุ่มตัวอย่างโดยรวมมีพฤติกรรมเปิดรับชมรายการอาหารบนยูทูบค่อนข้างมาก โดยมีลักษณะการรับชมค่อนข้างบ่อยครั้งและใช้ระยะเวลาค่อนข้างนานในการรับชมต่อครั้ง มีความสามารถจดจำตราสินค้าที่ทำการโฆษณาแฝงในรายการอาหารยูทูบในระดับปานกลาง มีทัศนคติต่อตราสินค้าที่ทำโฆษณาแฝงในรายการอาหารบนยูทูบในระดับดี มีความชื่นชอบต่อโฆษณาแฝงในรายการอาหารบนยูทูบในระดับปานกลาง โดยชื่นชอบโฆษณาแฝงแบบการเชื่อมโยงสินค้ากับเนื้อหา (Tie-In) มากที่สุด และมีความตั้งใจซื้อสินค้าที่ทำการโฆษณาแฝงในรายการอาหารบนยูทูบในระดับปานกลาง สำหรับปัจจัยที่มีอิทธิพลต่อความตั้งใจซื้อสินค้าที่ทำโฆษณาแฝงในรายการอาหารบนยูทูบของผู้ชมนั้น ได้แก่ ทัศนคติต่อรูปแบบโฆษณาแฝง (Beta = 0.469) อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ 0.01 และทัศนคติต่อตราสินค้า (Beta = 0.336) อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ 0.01

งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาปรากฏการณ์กระทู้หน้าม้า หรือกระทู้รับจ้างรีวิวสินค้าในเว็บไซต์พันทิปดอทคอม โดยเลือกศึกษาเฉพาะลักษณะเด่นของกระทู้หน้าม้า กระบวนการตรวจสอบและเปิดโปงหน้าม้า รวมทั้งกระบวนการสร้างและส่งเสริมการกำกับดูแลกันเองทั้งโดยผู้ใช้พันทิปและทีมงานพันทิป การศึกษาใช้การวิเคราะห์เนื้อหาจากกรณีตัวอย่าง 5 กรณีระหว่าง พ.ศ. 2556 – 2559 การสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึกผู้ใช้พันทิป และการสนทนากลุ่มผู้นิยมอ่านรีวิวในอินเทอร์เน็ต ผลการศึกษาพบว่า กระทู้หน้าม้าในเว็บไซต์พันทิปดอทคอมปรากฏอยู่ในสามรูปแบบหลัก ๆ ตามลักษณะการนำเสนอเนื้อหา ได้แก่ กระทู้รีวิวแบบพื้นฐานทั่วไป กระทู้สาธิตวิธีการสร้างสิ่งใหม่โดยมีสินค้าหรือบริการหนึ่ง ๆ เป็นส่วนประกอบ และกระทู้เปิดประเด็นให้เกิดบทสนทนา โดยกระทู้หน้าม้าทั้งสามรูปแบบนี้จะมีองค์ประกอบสำคัญสองประเภทคือ การสร้างความดึงดูดใจ และการสร้างความแนบเนียนให้เนื้อหาดูไม่ออกว่ามาจากหน้าม้า ในส่วนของการตรวจสอบและเปิดโปงกระทู้ที่ต้องสงสัยว่าจะเป็นกระทู้หน้าม้านั้น จากการศึกษาพบว่า มีกระบวนการที่เป็นขั้นตอนดังนี้คือ 1) การวิเคราะห์ความสมจริงและความสอดคล้องของคำบรรยายกับภาพประกอบ 2) การค้นคว้าข้อมูลอื่น ๆ นอกเหนือจากที่ปรากฏในกระทู้ ทั้งที่อยู่ในเว็บไซต์พันทิปเองและเว็บไซต์อื่น และ 3) การสืบหาข้อมูลที่ไม่เคยมีการเผยแพร่มาก่อน เพื่อให้การเปิดโปงมีน้ำหนักมากยิ่งขึ้น นอกจากนี้ จากการศึกษายังพบว่า การกำกับดูแลกระทู้หน้าม้าในชุมชนออนไลน์พันทิปนั้น จะมีที่มาจากสองส่วน ได้แก่ การออกแบบเว็บไซต์ของพันทิป กับ การการลงโทษโดยสมาชิกพันทิปด้วยกัน โดยทั้งสองส่วนนี้ต่างประกอบด้วยสองแนวทางคือ กระบวนการรับมือกับปัญหาหน้าม้า และกระบวนการสื่อสารหลังเกิดปัญหาหน้าม้า

วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงประยุกต์ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาองค์ประกอบของบอร์ดเกมที่ส่งเสริมทักษะสื่อสารการแสดง และเพื่อประยุกต์ใช้บอร์ดเกมในการพัฒนาทักษะสื่อสารการแสดง โดยการจัดกระบวนการประยุกต์ใช้บอร์ดเกมพื่อพัฒนาทักษะสื่อสารการแสดง ประกอบกับสหวิธีการ ได้แก่ การสัมภาษณ์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านบอร์ดเกมแบบเจาะลึก การสังเกตการณ์แบบมีส่วนร่วมโดยผู้วิจัย การประเมินก่อน-หลังการร่วมกิจกรรม และการสนทนากลุ่มกับกลุ่มตัวอย่าง จากนั้นจึงนำข้อมูลทั้งหมดมาวิเคราะห์ และนำเสนอผลการวิจัยเป็นลำดับ ผลของการวิจัยพบว่า กระบวนการประยุกต์บอร์ดเกมเพื่อพัฒนาทักษะสื่อสารการแสดง สามารถใช้พัฒนาทักษะสื่อสารการแสดงได้แก่ 1) ความสามารถในการใช้ภาษาพูด 2) ความพร้อมของอารมณ์และความรู้สึก 3) ความพร้อมของประสาทสัมผัส 4) สมาธิ 5) ความสามารถในการสังเกต 6) ความจำ 7) ความเข้าใจ 8) ความคิดสร้างสรรค์และจินตนาการ 9) ความกล้าแสดงออก และ 10) การแก้ไขปัญหาเฉพาะหน้า โดยคัดเลือกบอร์ดเกมจากองค์ประกอบของบอร์ดเกม ได้แก่ 1) ประเภทของบอร์ดเกม ควรเป็นบอร์ดเกมประเภทปาร์ตี้เกม 2) แนวของบอร์ดเกม ควรเป็นแนวอารมณ์ขัน แนวโน้มน้าวใจ แนวเล่าเรื่อง และแนวตัดตัวเลือก 3) กลศาสตร์ของบอร์ดเกม ควรประกอบไปด้วย กลศาสตร์การสวมบทบาท กลศาสตร์การเล่าเรื่อง และกลศาสตร์การลงมติ เพื่อให้สอดคล้องกับกระบวนการของเกมการแสดง และเพิ่มกลศาสตร์ที่ส่งเสริมการใช้ทักษะสื่อสารการแสดงอย่างเฉพาะเจาะจง จากนั้นจึงนำเกมที่เลือกแล้วมาวางโครงสร้างของกิจกรรม โดย 1) เริ่มด้วยเกมอุ่นเครื่อง 2) เข้าสู่เกมแนวตัดตัวเลือกที่มีกลศาสตร์การสวมบทบาท 3) เข้าสู่เกมแนวตัดตัวเลือกที่มีกลศาสตร์การมีคู่หู 4) เข้าสู่เกมที่เน้นไหวพริบ เพื่อประมวลทักษะสื่อสารการแสดงที่ได้ใช้ในแต่ละเกม และ 5) สนทนาหลังจบกิจกรรม เพื่อประเมินผลกิจกรรม

ผลการศึกษาองค์ประกอบของปรากฏการณ์ห้องเสียงสะท้อนในการสื่อสารทั้งสองประเด็น โดยการวิเคราะห์เนื้อหาพบว่า ผู้ติดตามเพจสื่อสารความคิดเห็น โดยให้ข้อเท็จจริงและตั้งคำถามต่อข้อมูลที่ได้รับรวมกันน้อยกว่าการให้ความคิดเห็นถึง 9 เท่า การสัมภาษณ์พบว่าผู้ติดตามเพจมีวิธีเลือกรับและหลีกเลี่ยงข้อมูลที่ขัดแย้งกับทัศนคติของตนเอง 4 แบบ คือ 1) การหลีกเลี่ยงทางกายภาพต่อเนื้อหา 2) การไม่ทำความเข้าใจเนื้อหา 3) การเลือกรับข้อมูลเพื่อหาข้อโต้แย้ง และ 4) การเลือกรับข้อมูลเพื่อจับผิดผู้นำเสนอข้อมูล และการวิเคราะห์ตัวบทพบว่า ผู้ใช้เฟซบุ๊ก 1) เลือกรับและตอบสนองต่อข้อมูลอย่างลำเอียง 2) สร้างกลุ่มแบ่งขั้ว และ 3) สื่อสารกันอย่างเป็นภัย
ทั้งนี้ ปัจจัยที่ส่งผลต่อปรากฏการณ์ห้องเสียงสะท้อน ได้แก่ 1) การนำเสนอข่าวสารของสื่อและบรรยากาศการสื่อสาร ส่งผลต่อเฉพาะการสื่อสารประเด็นการจัดการผู้ที่ถูกกล่าวหาว่าไม่จงรักภักดีต่อสถาบันกษัตริย์ 2) ปัจจัยด้านการกำกับดูแลเนื้อหา และ 3) ลักษณะของสื่อสังคมออนไลน์ที่มีการออกแบบฟีเจอร์และฟังก์ชันการใช้งานโดยมีกลไกของอัลกอริทึมอยู่เบื้องหลัง ได้ลดทอนความซับซ้อนของข้อมูล ผลักดันเนื้อหาที่ได้รับความนิยม และสร้างสังคมของคนที่คิดเหมือนกัน โดยผู้ติดตามเพจประเมินว่าการสื่อสารแบบห้องเสียงสะท้อนมีผลทั้งด้านที่ดีและด้านเสีย ทั้งต่อตัวบุคคลและต่อสังคม

การวิจัยครั้งนี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพที่มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาการสร้างภาพตัวแทนของพื้นที่ และความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างภาพตัวแทนของพื้นที่กับปรากฏการณ์ทางสังคมเกี่ยวกับพื้นที่ "สามจังหวัดชายแดนภาคใต้" ในภาพยนตร์ไทย โดยมุ่งเน้นการวิเคราะห์เนื้อหา (Textual Analysis) และวิเคราะห์บริบท (Contextual Analysis) ผ่านภาพยนตร์ไทยขนาดยาวที่มีเนื้อหาเกี่ยวกับพื้นที่สามจังหวัดชายแดนภาคใต้ที่ผลิตและออกฉายในช่วงปี พ.ศ. 2546-2559 จำนวน 6 เรื่อง ประกอบการสัมภาษณ์เจาะลึกผู้ผลิตภาพยนตร์และนักวิชาการ จำนวน 7 ท่าน ผลการวิจัยพบว่า ภาพยนตร์ไทยสร้างภาพตัวแทนของพื้นที่ "สามจังหวัดชายแดนภาคใต้" ด้วยกลวิธีที่แตกต่างกัน ขึ้นอยู่กับลักษณะของระบบการสร้าง ตระกูลภาพยนตร์ และองค์ประกอบของเรื่องเล่าแต่ละประเภท โดยภาพยนตร์ที่สร้างในระบบสตูดิโอมักหลีกเลี่ยงการพูดถึงประเด็นความรุนแรงในพื้นที่สามจังหวัดชายแดนภาคใต้โดยตรง ส่วนภาพยนตร์นอกระบบนั้นมักใช้วิธีการนำเสนอเชิงศิลปะและมุมมองเชิงปัจเจกในการวิพากษ์เหตุการณ์ ซึ่งภาพยนตร์ส่วนใหญ่ใช้องค์ประกอบการเล่าเรื่องตามตระกูลภาพยนตร์ที่สามารถเล่าเรื่องให้เข้าใจได้ง่าย นอกจากนี้ ภาพยนตร์แนวบันเทิงคดีนั้นมีวิธีการเล่าเรื่องพื้นที่อย่างหลากหลาย ไม่ยึดติดกับข้อมูลความจริง แตกต่างจากภาพยนตร์สารคดีที่เน้นการบันทึกภาพจากเหตุการณ์จริงมากกว่า ด้านความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างภาพตัวแทนของพื้นที่ "สามจังหวัดชายแดนภาคใต้" ในภาพยนตร์ไทยกับปรากฏการณ์ทางสังคมนั้น มีบทบาทในการสะท้อน การแสดงเจตจำนง และการประกอบสร้างความหมายของพื้นที่ตั้งแต่ระดับปัจเจกไปจนถึงระดับโครงสร้าง โดยผู้ผลิตภาพยนตร์เป็นปัจจัยสำคัญในการผลิตความหมายของพื้นที่สามจังหวัดชายแดนภาคใต้ผ่านสายตาของคนนอกพื้นที่ที่พยายามจะเข้าใกล้และทำความเข้าใจกับพื้นที่ดังกล่าวในเชิงบวกมากขึ้น

It is reported that physicians lack training to address weight-related concerns with patients. To overcome this, training programs have been implemented in medical settings to prepare physicians to have conversations with patients. However, it is unclear the degree of consistency among existing training programs and factors associated with better outcomes. The objective of this study was to systematically review the existing literature in this area to determine differences in content, outcomes, and implementation of existing studies that test weight-related communication training programs for physicians.

This article analyzes texts circulated in the 2014 debate over Colorado’s Amendment 67, the so-called Personhood Amendment, to demonstrate that value claims within the abortion debate are subordinated in favor of discussing the potential legal and philosophical implications of granting fetuses personhood. Using prudence, Robert Hariman’s (1991) framework for understanding political action, as a theoretical lens, I argue the personhood debate offers scholars an opportunity to identify and evaluate competing value claims of and in relation to potential impacts of the amendment. Background: Modern research is heavily reliant on online and mobile technologies, which is particularly true among historically hard-to-reach populations such as gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM). Despite this, very little empirical research has been published on participant perspectives about issues such as privacy, trust, and data sharing.

Objective: The objective of our study was to analyze data from an online sample of 11,032 GBMSM in the United States to examine their trust in and perspectives on privacy and data sharing within online and mobile research.

As mobile instant messaging (IM) has become the fastest-growing social media (e.g. WeChat, WhatsApp), this study investigates the use of it as a virtual collaboration tool in multi-organization projects. Online environments encourage their prospects, including children and teens, to register and provide information about themselves in order to participate in online activities.
