Female Sport Role Models: A Content Analysis Of Espn.Com, Michelle Lou Redmond Oct 2007

Female Sport Role Models: A Content Analysis Of Espn.Com, Michelle Lou Redmond

Human Movement Studies & Special Education Theses & Dissertations

Opportunities for girls to participate in sports are growing by the minute. However, adolescent girls are dropping out from participating in athletics with many possible explanations. One explanation is the limited and sometimes controversial media attention female athletes receive. How are girls to know there is a sporting world out there for them if they are unable to see positive female athletic role models to emulate?

This study investigated ESPN.com to discover the trends of college basketball reporting during the 2007 NCAA Men's and Women's basketball tournaments. A content analysis was performed on ESPN .com to see if the media …

Simulate Me: A Study Of Computer-Mediated Communication In A Contemporary Society, Sabrina Wong

Honors College Theses

Like any forms of revolutionary technology, CMC (computer-mediated communication) has its pros and cons. Due to its extension list of advantages, CMC's many downfalls are disregarded. In this essay I will discuss that the rising dependence on CMC causes alienation from FTF (face-to-face) interaction as well as a lack of depth within their personal relationships.

Greg Ryan And The Goalkeepers, Richard C. Crepeau Oct 2007

Greg Ryan And The Goalkeepers, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

It is sometimes called second-guessing. In this case, it was first-guessing. From the moment that U.S. Women's Soccer coach Greg Ryan announced that he would replace Hope Solo in goal with Briana Scurry for the semi-final match in the Women's World Cup, there was a outpouring of astonishment mixed with criticism directed at his decision. It defied belief then, and it defied belief even more after the fact as the U.S. Women suffered their worst defeat in World Cup play.

Cross-Cultural Differences In Learning And Education: Stereotypes, Myths And Realities, Gerhard Apfelthaler, Katrin Hansen, Stephan Keuchel, Christa Mueller, Martin Neubauer, Siow-Heng Ong, Nirundon Tapachai

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

Despite the fact that both learning styles and cross-cultural differences have been important research topics for decades, surprisingly little work has been done on comparisons of learning behaviour across cultures and its impact for teachers working in culturally mixed settings. This chapter is based on a research project funded by the European Union seeking to provide fresh knowledge on cross-national differences in attitudes towards learning of students from selected countries. It reports on the results from Austria, Germany, Singapore and Thailand and outlines some of the implications for teaching in higher education.

Are Community Values Toward Education Reflective Of A District's Reputation For Quality Education: A Case Study Approach, Sheldon Marc Deveaux

Theses and Dissertations

An increasing number of parents across the nation are seeking alternatives to educate their children. School progress is being documented because of the implementation of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. Because America's education system is enthralled with academic reforms, research about this thesis topic is significant and timely.

This case study approach addresses the question whether public school districts successfully meet the education standards of parents in the community? Also, the author compares and contrasts the benefits between private and home schooling. Finally, the author addresses specific educational issues that motivate parents to remove their children from …

Commentary, Clyde Taylor Sep 2007

Commentary, Clyde Taylor

Trotter Review

There's some buzz about Bill O'Reilly's racially ignorant remarks about Sylvia's Restaurant in Harlem. But the darling of left-liberal media jokesters, Jon Stewart, had a good time on his Friday, September 21 show, first, at the expense of President Bush, and then at the expense of Nelson Mandela. Blogs are cheerleading the way Stewart caught Bush in another dumb statement — that Nelson Mandela is dead. The only comments I find on the web are kudos for Stewart's bashing of Bush. No mention of Stewart animalizing Mandela with sounds that echo the mumbo-jumbo sneer at nonwhite speech, or of his …
