From December 1999 to September 2003, the Desert Research Institute (DRI) provided management support and technical services in support of cultural resources management activities for the US Department of Energy (DOE) Yucca Mountain Project (YMP). This effort was conducted as Task 16 of the Cooperative Agreement between the US Department of Energy’s Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management (OCRWM) with the University and Community College System of Nevada (UCCSN). HUNTER-GATHERER ADAPTATIONS included mobility strategies that were geared toward mapping people on to both resources and other people. There are factors that condition the ways in which people position themselves on the landscape and move over it. Mobility strategies are organizational responses to the structural properties of the natural and social environments (Binford 1980, 2001). Waterpower: A Geophysical and Archaeological Investigation of the Waterpower System at the West Point Foundry, Cold Spring, New York, describes the results of ground penetrating radar surveys and archaeological excavation undertaken by Michigan Technological University (MTU) archaeologists during the summer of 2003 at the West Point Foundry, Cold Spring, New York. 2003 constituted MTU's second field season at the foundry. Fieldwork concentrated on the foundry's waterpower system, an intricate network of surface and subsurface drains, races, flumes, waterwheels, turbines, dams, and ponds that powered operations and regulated water flow throughout the site.
