The stepped care model (SCM) is a healthcare approach in which patients and providers collaborate to select interventions and adjust the level of care over time based on outcomes. The approach is widely used in primary healthcare and becoming increasingly prevalent in busy mental health settings such as community clinics and university counseling centers.
