A Focused Review Of Multidimensional Well-Being Assessments, Samantha Schonhardt, Stephanie Sullivan, Rebecca Shisler Marshall Feb 2023

A Focused Review Of Multidimensional Well-Being Assessments, Samantha Schonhardt, Stephanie Sullivan, Rebecca Shisler Marshall

Journal of Wellness

Introduction: Interest in the topic of well-being continues to grow and has resulted in the creation of a variety of well-being assessments. However, each assessment often brings its own terminology, theories, definitions, and dimensions. This creates a muddled research base that produces inconsistencies in the field of well-being. Therefore, the aim of this review was to identify assessments that measure multiple dimensions of well-being, catalogue and group the dimensions into categories, and develop definitions for the categories based on the conceptualizations in the literature. In doing so, the dimensionality of well-being portrayed in the literature can be better understood. …

Exercise Prescription In Patient With Different Complications Of Leukemia: Recommendations For Clinical Practice, Yanzhong Chen Feb 2023

Exercise Prescription In Patient With Different Complications Of Leukemia: Recommendations For Clinical Practice, Yanzhong Chen

International Journal of Physical Activity and Health

Common treatment of leukemia will have side effects on nerve function, affecting the patient's physical function, which makes patients often accompanied by infection, bone and joint pain, fatigue and other symptoms. Exercise can improve the level of body function, enable patients to tolerate stronger chemotherapy during treatment, help improve the survival rate and recovery chances of patients, and has been used as an effective means to promote recovery. Recommendations for leukemia and exercise have been primarily based on the results of existing relevant studies. To provide more targeted recommendations for the leukemia, we gathered evidence for the efficacy of exercise …

Protecting Low-Income Consumers In The Era Of Digital Grocery Shopping: Implications For Wic Online Ordering, Qi Zhang, Priyanka Patel, Caitlin M. Lowery Jan 2023

Protecting Low-Income Consumers In The Era Of Digital Grocery Shopping: Implications For Wic Online Ordering, Qi Zhang, Priyanka Patel, Caitlin M. Lowery

Community & Environmental Health Faculty Publications

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is now expected to allow participants to redeem their food benefits online, i.e., via online ordering, rather than only in-store. However, it is unclear how this new benefit redemption model may impact participants’ welfare since vendors may have an asymmetric information advantage compared with WIC customers. The WIC online ordering environment may also change the landscape for WIC vendors, which will eventually affect WIC participants. To protect WIC consumers’ rights in the new online ordering model, policymakers need an appropriate legal and regulatory framework. This narrative review provides that …

A Retrospective Review Of A Local Healthcare Process Designed To Improve Understandability, Actionability, And Readability Of Written Documents For Veterans, Erica Wilson

College of Health Sciences Posters

Preventable chronic diseases are plaguing our veterans. Health literacy is an important component of prevention and chronic disease self-management. People need health literacy skills to read and understand information. The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) calls the Veterans Health Education and Information (VHEI) Committee for a review process to improve the understandability, actionability, and readability of VHEI resources.

This retrospective review of a local evidence-based process improvement is being implemented at the Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center (DCVAMC) to satisfy a VHA directive to improve the understandability, actionability, and readability of written materials. The local process improvement involves a robust …

The Study Of Followers In Leadership Research: A Systematic And Critical Review, Burak Oc, Kraivin Chintakananda, Michael Ramsay Bashshur, David V. Day Jan 2023

The Study Of Followers In Leadership Research: A Systematic And Critical Review, Burak Oc, Kraivin Chintakananda, Michael Ramsay Bashshur, David V. Day

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

Despite the significant amount of existing research examining the relationship of follower-related factors with leadership outcomes, there is no systematic, critical review that integrates and helps leadership scholars make sense of this rapidly growing body of research. To address this gap in the literature, we first briefly discuss the leading perspectives explaining the role of followers in leadership. Next, we identify and discuss the most frequently studied theoretical narratives explaining the relationship between follower-related predictors and leadership outcomes. Because theoretical arguments generally make causal claims, we identify and examine how methodological concerns including power analysis, multicollinearity, and endogeneity might prevent …

Applying Technology To Promote Sexual And Reproductive Health And Prevent Gender Based Violence For Adolescents In Low And Middle-Income Countries: Digital Health Strategies Synthesis From An Umbrella Review, Keng-Yen Huang, Manasi Kumar, Sabrina Cheng, Anya Elena Urcuyo, Paul Macharia Nov 2022

Applying Technology To Promote Sexual And Reproductive Health And Prevent Gender Based Violence For Adolescents In Low And Middle-Income Countries: Digital Health Strategies Synthesis From An Umbrella Review, Keng-Yen Huang, Manasi Kumar, Sabrina Cheng, Anya Elena Urcuyo, Paul Macharia

Brain and Mind Institute

Aim: Adolescents in low-and-middle-income countries (LMICs) are facing numerous developmental, sexual and reproductive health (SRH) challenges including exposure to multidimensional violence. Gender-based violence (GBV) specifically intimate partner violence (IPV) are both highly prevalent in LMICs and are strongly linked with poor SRH outcomes. However, GBV and IPV interventions have not yet been adequately integrated in SRH due to individual, social, cultural, service, and resource barriers. To promote long-term SRH, a more holistic approach that integrates GBV and IPV, and adolescent development needs is imperative. Digital health has the potential to address multiple service setup, provision, and addressing access barriers through …

Picked Last: A Review Of Transgender Athletes’ Experiences In Sport, Jacqueline Villanueva Aug 2022

Picked Last: A Review Of Transgender Athletes’ Experiences In Sport, Jacqueline Villanueva

Undergraduate Student Research Internships Conference

Transgender athletes have a long and complicated history in relation to the sports they exist within and the governing bodies that surround them. As well, their unique relationship to their gender identity, their teammates, and to their sport, is oftentimes strained. Major sporting organizations such as the International Olympic Committee or FINA have often been at the centre of controversy with transgender participation policies that lack the needed elements of equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Through a review of the pertinent literature from prominent journals in the sociology of sport and queer methodology, literature pertaining to transgender athletes and policy from …

A Comparative Review Of Qualitative Research: A Guide To Design And Implementation, Biniam Getnet Agazu Mr., Adissu Ketemaw Dejenu Mr., Kenenisa Lemi Debela Dr.

The Qualitative Report

We review Sharan B. Merriam and Elizabeth J. Tisdell’s 2016 book, Qualitative Research: A Guide to Design and Implementation and then compare it to three other introductory to qualitative research texts. We found the Merriam and Tisdell book to be useful for both novice and more experienced researchers. The two authors are highly experienced in qualitative research and their book may provide an opportunity to improve our understanding of qualitative research design and implementation when compared to other different qualitative books.

Review Of Deconstructing Service In Libraries: Intersections Of Identities And Expectations, Emily Komornik

Journal of Contemporary Archival Studies

In Deconstructing Service in Libraries: Intersections of Identities and Expectations, Veronica Arellano Douglas and Joanna Gadsby bring together nineteen essays from the perspectives of library workers of differing race, ethnicity, gender identity, and job title to discuss service and what it means in their respective roles. Transitioning To A Circular Economy: A Systematic Review Of Its Drivers And Barriers, Jovan Tan, Fabien Jianwei Tan, Seeram Ramakrishna Feb 2022

Transitioning To A Circular Economy: A Systematic Review Of Its Drivers And Barriers, Jovan Tan, Fabien Jianwei Tan, Seeram Ramakrishna

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

Advancing societal's progress to achieve circularity is imperative as our linear (take, make, waste) economic model is highly unsustainable. It depletes our natural resources and substantially contributes to pollution and global greenhouse gas emissions. Our continued participation in the linear economy will also expose businesses to volatile resource prices and supply disruptions resulting from the scarcity of critical materials and geopolitical factors. Hence, there are compelling reasons for businesses to transit and participate in the circular economy. However, anecdotal evidence suggests limited practical implementations. Therefore, this systematic review aims to determine the most significant drivers and barriers that influence business …

Promoting Labour Migrant Health Equity Through Action On The Structural Determinants: A Systematic Review, Mireille Evagora-Campbell, Aysha Zahidie, Kent Buse, Fauziah Rabbani, Sarah Hawkes Feb 2022

Promoting Labour Migrant Health Equity Through Action On The Structural Determinants: A Systematic Review, Mireille Evagora-Campbell, Aysha Zahidie, Kent Buse, Fauziah Rabbani, Sarah Hawkes

Community Health Sciences

Background: Labour migrants, who represent over sixty per cent of international migrants globally, frequently have poorer health status than the population of host countries. These health inequities are determined in a large part by structural drivers including political, commercial, economic, normative and social factors, including living and working conditions. Achieving health equity for migrant workers requires structural-level interventions to address these determinants.
Methods: We undertook a systematic review of peer-reviewed literature designed to answer the question "what is the evidence for the effectiveness of interventions to address the structural determinants of health for labour migrants?" using the Ovid Medline electronic …

Bridges And Barriers: An Exploration Of Engagements Of The Research Community With The Openstreetmap Community, A. Yair Grinberger, Marco Minghini, Godwin Yeboah, Levente Juhasz, Peter Mooney

GIS Center

The academic community frequently engages with OpenStreetMap (OSM) as a data source and research subject, acknowledging its complex and contextual nature. However, existing literature rarely considers the position of academic research in relation to the OSM community. In this paper we explore the extent and nature of engagement between the academic research community and the larger communities in OSM. An analysis of OSM-related publications from 2016 to 2019 and seven interviews conducted with members of one research group engaged in OSM-related research are described. The literature analysis seeks to uncover general engagement patterns while the interviews are used to identify …

Book Review Of The Routledge Companion To Theatre Of The Oppressed, Amy Phillips Oct 2021

Book Review Of The Routledge Companion To Theatre Of The Oppressed, Amy Phillips

Pedagogy and Theatre of the Oppressed Journal

In my review of The Routledge Companion to Theatre of the Oppressed by Boal, J., Howe, K., and Soerio, J., eds. (London and New York: Routledge, 2019), I compare the book’s call for Theatre of the Oppressed to embrace a nuanced investigation of social problems with its response: the international movements detailed in its chapters. While demonstrating that the first-hand accounts provide a measured answer to contradictions inherent in a system which Augusto Boal developed in response to a specific political climate, I emphasize the beauty of theory and practice sitting side by side, in paradox, and encourage scholar and …

A Bibliometric Analysis Of E-Government Research, Darmawan Napitupulu Jun 2021

A Bibliometric Analysis Of E-Government Research, Darmawan Napitupulu

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

E-government research has increasingly been raised since ICT was used in the public sector, but it has not yet reached the maturity stage. It contributes to the high number of research published in recent years. However, there is still limited or no bibliometric analysis conducted to analyze e-government research as a whole in the last decade. The purpose of the study is to establish bibliometric analysis as an extensive review of e-government literature. The method used in this study consists of five steps: defining search keywords, initializing search results, refining search results, compiling preliminary data statistics and analyzing data. The …

Research On Climate Change In Social Psychology Publications: A Systematic Review, Kim-Pong Kam, Angela K. Y. Leung, Susan Clayton

Research Collection School of Social Sciences

There is a strong scientific consensus that anthropogenic climate change is happening and that its impacts can put both ecological and human systems in jeopardy. Social psychology, the scientific study of human behaviours in their social and cultural settings, is an important tool for understanding how humans interpret and respond to climate change. In this article, we offered a systematic review of the social psychological literature of climate change. We sampled 130 studies on climate change or global warming from 80 articles published in journals indexed under the “Psychology, social” category of Journal Citation Reports. Based on this sample, …
