The purpose of this experimental, posttest-only control-group study was to determine if there are differences in levels of metacognitive bias between those who do and do not use Google on a practice activity prior to the administration of a general knowledge test, when controlling for epistemic curiosity. The study seeks to help fill the gap in the literature by examining differences in metacognitive bias across not only the experimental variable of Google access, but also by participant variables, providing a more thorough understanding of how differences in individuals may moderate the relationship between Google use and bias. Abortion has been a contentious policy issue for nearly as long as United States has existed. From its legalization under the U.S. Constitution’s right to privacy in the Supreme Court decision of Roe v. Wade to the overturn of the decision this year in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Healthcare Organization, abortion policy has been on a back and forth swing for generations. In this thesis, I develop an analysis of the industry concentration seen in digital markets today. I begin with a description and argument for the use of institutional economics. This framework allows for the integration of an interdisciplinary approach to economics. My analysis details the socioeconomic and political impacts, as well as the underlying market dynamics that have pushed digital markets towards concentration. I offer novel explanations for the lack of firm behavior that should theoretically increase profit, the existence of barriers to competition, and consumer behavior that focus on the role of social institutions. Are large digital platforms that deal directly with consumers “winner take all,” or natural monopoly, firms? That question is surprisingly complex and does not produce the same answer for every platform. The closer one looks at digital platforms the less they seem to be winner-take-all. As a result, competition can be made to work in most of them. Further, antitrust enforcement, with its accommodation of firm variety, is generally superior to any form of statutory regulation that generalizes over large numbers.

The present study examines the accessibility of URLs cited in the journals of Library and Information Science. The journals were selected based on their high impact factor published between 2008 and 2017. A PHP script was used to crawl the Uniform Resource Locators (URL) collected from the reference list. A total of 3,24,636 references were extracted from 7986 articles, out of which 51,839 had URLs. The research findings indicated that 23.10% of URLs were inaccessible. The majority of errors were due to the HTTP 404 error code (Not found error), which accounted for 83.10%. The study retrieved 61.76% of inaccessible …

However, Google’s refusal to disclose information about the coverage of GB, as well as observed gaps and inaccuracies in the collection and its metadata, makes it difficult to recommend with confidence for a given research need. While most search and retrieval functions work well, glitches aren’t hard to find, which suggests GB development is focused on user experiences that relate to monetization. This study investigates the relationship between daily Google search volume and trade volume in the Philippine Stock Exchange. This is completed by employing a sample consisting of listed stocks in the Philippine Stock Exchange from 2015 to 2019 and testing the veracity of three different keyword categories in proxying investor attention. The empirical results indicate that when using company names and stock tickers as Google search keywords, there is a strong positive relationship between Google search volume and trade volume. While research in the sciences and social sciences has become increasingly visible to search engines, research in the humanities has remained relatively hidden. There are discipline-specific challenges to scholarly communication in the humanities. Visualizations from two studies illustrate how humanities scholarship currently has limited discoverability and access. These results suggest that academic libraries are well-positioned to increase the visibility of humanities scholarship if they can leverage relationships. This poster presents opportunities for collaboration across library areas and strategies for revealing research in the humanities. Ideas for further exploration are identified and attendees will be invited to share their insights.

Antitrust policy promises to be an important issue in the 2020 presidential election, and for good reason. Market power measured by price-cost margins has been on the rise since the 1980s. Presidential candidate Senator Elizabeth Warren has two proposals directed at large tech platforms. One would designate large platform markets such as Amazon “platform utilities,” and prohibit them from selling their own merchandise on the platform in competition with other retailers. The other proposes more aggressive enforcement against large platform acquisitions of smaller companies.
