Iterates Of Holomorphic Self-Maps On Pseudoconvex Domains Of Finite And Infinite Type In Cn, Tran Vu Khanh, Ninh Van Thu

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Using the lower bounds on the Kobayashi metric established by the first author, we prove a Wolff-Denjoy-type theorem for a very large class of pseudoconvex domains in Cn. This class includes many pseudoconvex domains of finite type and infinite type.

Dense Domains, Symmetric Operators And Spectral Triples, Iain Forsyth, B Mesland, Adam Rennie Sep 2015

Dense Domains, Symmetric Operators And Spectral Triples, Iain Forsyth, B Mesland, Adam Rennie

Associate Professor Adam Rennie

This article is about erroneous attempts to weaken the standard definition of unbounded Kasparov module (or spectral triple). This issue has been addressed previously, but here we present concrete counterexamples to claims in the literature that Fredholm modules can be obtained from these weaker variations of spectral triple. Our counterexamples are constructed using self-adjoint extensions of symmetric operators.

Boundary Regularity Of The Solution To The Complex Monge-Ampère Equation On Pseudoconvex Domains Of Infinite Type, Ly Kim Ha, Tran Vu Khanh Jan 2015

Boundary Regularity Of The Solution To The Complex Monge-Ampère Equation On Pseudoconvex Domains Of Infinite Type, Ly Kim Ha, Tran Vu Khanh

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

All rights reserved. Let Ω be a C2-smooth, bounded, pseudoconvex domain in ℂn satisfying the "f -property". The f -property is a consequence of the geometric "type" of the boundary. All pseudoconvex domains of finite type satisfy the f-property as well as many classes of domains of infinite type. In this paper, we prove the existence, uniqueness, and "weak" Hölder-regularity up to the boundary of the solution to the Dirichlet problem for the complex Monge-Ampère equation (Formula Presented) The idea of our proof goes back to Bedford and Taylor [1]. However, the basic geometrical ingredient is based …

Defining Patient Experience, Jason A. Wolf Phd, Cpxp, Victoria Niederhauser Drph, Rn, Dianne Marshburn Phd, Rn, Ne-Bc, Sherri L. Lavela Phd, Mph, Mba

Patient Experience Journal

In recent years, perceptions of performance and quality of healthcare organizations have begun to move beyond examining the provision of excellent clinical care, alone, and to consider and embrace the patient experience as an important indicator. There is a need to determine the extent to which clear and formal definitions exist, have common overarching themes, and/or have unique, but important constructs that should be considered more widely. In this article, we provide a 14-year synthesis of existing literature and other sources (2000-2014) that have been used to define patient experience. A total of 18 sources (articles or organizational websites) were …

Psychopathy And The Hexaco Personality Model, M. Todd Lobrano Jan 2014

Psychopathy And The Hexaco Personality Model, M. Todd Lobrano

Doctoral Dissertations

Within the recently published DSM-5, alternative diagnostic criteria for personality disorders have been offered (American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2013). These changes allow for a more dimensional diagnostic system than has been previously used while maintaining some aspects of a categorical system (Skodol et al., 2011). These changes also include a description of specific traits that characterize personality disorders and make it possible for measures of normal personality to have a more significant impact in their diagnosis. Relevant to the present study are the changes in the diagnosis of antisocial personality disorder and psychopathy, considered by many to be an extreme …

Solution Structure Of Domains Iva And V Of The Tau Subunit Of Escherichia Coli Dna Polymerase Iii And Interaction With The Alpha Subunit, Xun-Cheng Su, Slobodan Jergic, Max A Keniry, Nicholas E. Dixon, Gottfried Otting Jul 2013

Solution Structure Of Domains Iva And V Of The Tau Subunit Of Escherichia Coli Dna Polymerase Iii And Interaction With The Alpha Subunit, Xun-Cheng Su, Slobodan Jergic, Max A Keniry, Nicholas E. Dixon, Gottfried Otting

Professor Nick E Dixon

The solution structure of the C-terminal Domain V of the τ subunit of E. coli DNA polymerase III was determined by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The fold is unique to τ subunits. Amino acid sequence conservation is pronounced for hydrophobic residues that form the structural core of the protein, indicating that the fold is representative for τ subunits from a wide range of different bacteria. The interaction between the polymerase subunits τ and α was studied by NMR experiments where α was incubated with full-length C-terminal domain (τC16), and domains shortened at the C-terminus by 11 and 18 residues, …

Barriers To Critical Thinking Across Domains, Reed Geertsen Jan 2013

Barriers To Critical Thinking Across Domains, Reed Geertsen

Sociology, Social Work and Anthropology Faculty Publications

The transfer of critical thinking across domains presents both a significant

challenge and meaningful opportunity for college education as well as

programs of continuing education and · efforts to encourage lifelong learning.

After examining different approaches to teaching critical thinking, this paper examines some of

the barriers to transfer across domains using an interactionist perspective. This perspective

underscores the fact that developing and using critical thinking is a lifelong endeavor due to the

tunnel-vision tendencies that naturally follow from situated learning in a particular domain. Two

case studies are presented to illustrate the potential blinding effects of situated learning

resulting …

Genres, Registers, Text Types, Domains And Styles: Clarifying The Concepts And Nevigating A Path Through The Bnc Jungle, David Y. W. Lee Jan 2001

Genres, Registers, Text Types, Domains And Styles: Clarifying The Concepts And Nevigating A Path Through The Bnc Jungle, David Y. W. Lee

Faculty of Arts - Papers (Archive)

In this paper, an attempt is first made to clarify and tease apart the somewhat confusing terms genre, register, text type, domain, sublanguage, and style. The use of these terms by various linguists and literary theorists working under different traditions or orientations will be examined and a possible way of synthesising their insights will be proposed and illustrated with reference to the disparate categories used to classify texts in various existing computer corpora. With this terminological problem resolved, a personal project which involved giving each of the 4,124 British National Corpus (BNC, version 1) files a descriptive "genre" label will …

Social Identity, Domain Specific Self-Esteem And Intergroup Evaluation: The Relevance Of Important Self-Esteem Domains., John A. Hunter, Kerry O'Brien, Andrew C. Grocott Jan 1999

Social Identity, Domain Specific Self-Esteem And Intergroup Evaluation: The Relevance Of Important Self-Esteem Domains., John A. Hunter, Kerry O'Brien, Andrew C. Grocott

Faculty of Social Sciences - Papers (Archive)

The present investigation sought to extend recent research concerned with assessing the link between domain specific self-esteem and intergroup evaluation. It was hypothesized that, following the display of group favoring evaluations, category members would experience an increase in that domain of self-esteem judged to be more important to the ingroup. Support for this hypothesis was found. A pilot study was conducted to ascertain which domains of the self were judged by male category members to be important and unimportant to the ingroup. On the basis of this analysis, domains of self-esteem important (i.e. physical self-esteem) and unimportant (i.e. religious self-esteem) …
