According to a 2015 study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, electronic cigarettes have surpassed traditional cigarettes as the most commonly used tobacco product among high school students.
A group of four students at Cedarville University began researching the chemical compounds in two brands of e-cigarette flavoring in January to see if they contain harmful ingredients. A previous study at Marquette University found that e-cigarette flavorings, commonly called “juice,” contain harmful ingredients such as diacetyl and 2,3-pentanedione–both have been linked to lung disease.

The Shell Eco-Marathon challenges students to design, build and drive ultra-energy-efficient vehicles. The Motor City was the backdrop to this competition that featured universities and high schools throughout the world.
By the time the competition concluded, Cedarville University’s super-mileage car team continued its demonstration of excellence in developing fuel-efficient vehicles at the 2016 Shell Eco-Marathon Americas with a second place finish in the Urban Concept division and sixth place in the Prototype Gasoline category. The event was held April 23-24 event in downtown Detroit.

Cedarville University’s School of Education will present the inaugural Excellent Educator of the Year Award to Denny Morrison, superintendent of Xenia Community Schools, during its graduation celebration at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 6, in the DeVries Theatre. At the ceremony, Morrison will serve as the motivational speaker to this year’s class of 56 graduates from the school of education.

Students from Cedarville University’s School of Pharmacy are launching a new initiative to educate elementary school students and their parents about the dangers of misusing over-the-counter (OTC) medication.
The OTC Medicine Safety Campaign will launch with sessions for fourth and fifth graders at Cedarville Elementary School from April 26-27. The program is part of a larger collaborative effort between the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP), McNeil Consumer Healthcare and Scholastic Corporation.

The farewell concert for Mike DiCuirci, M.M., senior professor of music, takes place Sunday, April 17, at 3 p.m. in the Dixon Ministry Center. Cedarville University's 2016 Model United Nations (U.N.) team recently returned from the National Model U.N. Conference in New York City with the designation of "Outstanding Delegation" — the highest award given at the competition.

Top Graphic Design Awards Go To Cedarville Students, Mark D. Weinstein

A pair of Cedarville University students, Andrew Spencer and Derek Truninger, showcased their talents at the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) Portfolio Day in Cincinnati.
Spencer, a senior from Hudson, New Hampshire, took first place and received a $1,000 scholarship as the overall winner. His classmate, Derek Truninger, a senior from Moon Township, Pennsylvania, finished second overall and earned a $750 scholarship.
