On February 3, 2016, Jon Budd - TxDOT staff archeologist, conducted an intensive archeological survey of the undertaking's area of potential effects (APE) for the bridge replacement on Brown County Road 225 at Clear Creek. A new bridge is proposed to be installed on new location approximately 140 feet north of the existing bridge. The road will be realigned to align with the proposed new bridge. The existing bridge is historic and will be left in place. The investigation consisted of a one hundred percent pedestrian survey of the 3.2 acres of the project area which includes 1.0 acre of …

The Thomason Political Folklore Collection includes projects conducted by students from a number of counties in the state of Kentucky and few from nearby states. The collection includes information pertaining to those counties political oral traditions. This project was conducted by students at Western Kentucky University for class credit.

In August of 2002, a crew from the Center for Archaeological Research (CAR) of The University of Texas at San Antonio tested four sites at Camp Bowie in Brown County Texas. Three sites, 41BR471, 41BR500, and 41BR522, were prehistoric and one site, 41BR392, had both historic and prehistoric components. This work was done under Texas Antiquities Permit No. 2926 for the Adjutant General’s Department of Texas. Testing at these sites was done based on recommendations made for 41BR500 by Mauldin and Broehm (2001) and recommendations made for 41BR392, 41BR471 and 41BR522 by Greaves (2002).

Between the fall of 1999 and the summer of 2001, archaeologists from the Center for Archaeological Research (CAR) at The University of Texas at San Antonio conducted National Register Eligibility testing on 18 prehistoric sites within Camp Bowie in Brown County, Texas. The work was conducted for the Texas Army National Guard. The sites were recommended for testing during an inventory survey of Camp Bowie conducted between 1993 and 1998 (Wormser and Sullo-Prewitt 2001). Sixteen of the 18 sites tested contained burned rock middens. It was on the basis of that feature type that these sites were recommended for testing. …

Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State

During the mid-1900s, a cultural resources survey of Camp Bowie was conducted by the Environmental Resources Management Branch of the Adjutant General’s Department of Texas (AGTX-EV) which identified a number of historical sites within the camp’s boundaries. These sites included 41BR227, 41BR438, and 41BR266, all of which are sandstone walls; 41BR270 and 41BR477, both of which contain check dams built to control erosion; 41BR290, the remains of a farmstead; and 41BR299, a bunker dating to the World War II era. Pedestrian survey and shovel testing of three land parcels and shovel testing of four previously identified archaeological sites in Camp Bowie, Brown County, Texas, was performed by the Center for Archaeological Research (CAR) at The University of Texas at San Antonio during October and November of 2001. This work, conducted under Texas Antiquities Permit No. 2310, was undertaken as a result of recommendations from Wormser and Sullo-Prewitt (2001) following their archaeological survey and site recording efforts.

Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State

In February, March, and May of 2001, personnel from the Center for Archaeological Research (CAR), The University of Texas at San Antonio, conducted a cultural resource inventory survey, involving pedestrian survey and shovel testing, of an approximately 90-acre (364,060 m2) tract of land in a plowed field on Camp Bowie, Brown County, Texas. A total of 104 shovel tests were systematically placed within the 90-acre area. The survey identified three prehistoric sites, all lithic scatters defined by surface material. Twelve additional shovel tests were placed on these three sites. An arrow point fragment, collected from the surface of 41BR499, suggests …
