A targeted intensive archeological survey was completed to inventory and evaluate archeological resources within the footprint of proposed improvements and roadway widening to Upland Avenue between 66th Street and 114th Street in the City of Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas.

The total project is approximately 3.0 miles (4.8 kilometers) in length within a 120-foot- (36.6- meter-) wide corridor; typical depth of impacts is expected to be 2 feet (0.6 meters) along the roadway. The archeological area of potential effects (APE) consists of the entire footprint of the project, which covers approximately 60.44 acres and consists of 46.10 acres of existing right …

This necessitated compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (Section 106) and the Antiquities Code of Texas (ACT). In October 2018, AmaTerra Environmental conducted an archeological survey of drainage detention ponds associated with the proposed expansion of FM 1960 from Wilson Drive to Astascosita Shores Drive in Harris County, Texas. The project was conducted in behalf of TxDOT under Texas Antiquities Permit No. 8952. Fieldwork entailed visual inspection and shovel testing at four of five detention pond locations. Two additional detention ponds were assessed through archival research and visual inspection and found to have no potential for archeological resources. AmaTerra excavated 28 shovel tests–none of which contained cultural materials. No archeological sites were documented and this report recommends …

The test for this suite of models was conducted as a double-blind survey since neither the United States Forest Service personnel (excepting Garcia) nor the participants were provided with any information regarding the model in advance of testing. Input from the model was shared with the crew the day after each location was tested. Enlistment of the double-blind survey method aids in reducing survey bias. Collection of data for this project begins with the stratified random sample. The sample consists of random locations throughout compartments of the Davy Crockett National Forest. Radiocarbon Evidence For Initial Early Formative Period Occupation In Coastal Oaxaca, Mexico, Guy David Hepp

Seven AMS radiocarbon dates (1950–1525 cal BC) from controlled contexts demonstrate Early Formative period occupation in coastal Oaxaca, Mexico. These dated elements from the site of La Consentida include hearths, occupational surfaces, carbon adhering to pottery from a midden, and human bone collagen processed with XAD purification. They were excavated from primary contexts and do not represent redeposited materials. An eighth sample, dated to the Middle Formative period, is considered postoccupational. The diversity of dated deposits and features, their distribution, and their overlapping calibrated ranges indicate settlement by an initial Early Formative period village.

The analysis of human remains in archaeological contexts is often complicated by the presence of highly fragmented and commingled remains. The standard methods used to help quantify the number of individuals and elements in these contexts are based upon the segmentation of whole bones. The methods provide standardization and are flexible enough to allow for the idiosyncratic nature of each context. However, this results in a lack of transparency, which is necessary to reanalyze the same sample or to compare “like” contexts, as the data collected will vary.

Site 22LA516, known as Hurricane Landing, is a single mound early Mississippian site located in the middle of Sardis Lake, Lafayette County, Mississippi. As part of a 2015 joint salvage archaeology project between the Center for Archaeological Research (CAR) and the Vicksburg District Corp of Engineers, nine pit features were excavated. Analyses of the ceramics and lithic remains recovered from the features, combined with AMS dates, were conducted with the focus of better understanding Hurricane Landing within its North Central Hills region of Mississippi. The focus of this project will be to firmly establish, characterize, and define the range of traits that describe the most common fabric type of the pottery found at Ziyaret Tepe, which was called by the excavators and ceramic experts Plain Simple Ware (code designation LA01). To characterize and describe the range of traits of Plain Simple Ware from Ziyaret Tepe, ceramic analysis, specifically, a method called ceramic petrography was employed in this study of thirty samples of pottery. In industrial settings of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, capital often instilled discipline through control of social behaviors. Among those, alcohol consumption was most often targeted due to its effects on worker productivity. Although many industrial settings of this time enforced sobriety policies, the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company (CCI) never enforced sobriety within their lumber camps. CCI took a hands-off approach to managing their lumber camps, which allotted their workers a great deal of autonomy.
