Empirical Essays On Retail Investors, Institutional Investors, And Anomalies, Yuqing Yang
Empirical Essays On Retail Investors, Institutional Investors, And Anomalies, Yuqing Yang
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
This dissertation consists of five chapters on market efficiencies through retail and international mutual fund investors.
Chapter 1 This chapter briefly introduces this dissertation.
Chapter 2 This chapter Anomalies Never Disappeared: The Case of Stubborn Retail Investors delves into the “stubborn” retail investors and finds that anomalies traded against by retail investors never disappear in the long run, defying the conventional wisdom that anomalies are disappearing in recent years as market efficiency improves. Incorporating retail trading, I develop asset pricing models that surpass existing prominent models in explaining these long-run alphas. I hypothesize that retail investors exacerbate anomalies: the more …

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
This thesis examines co-movement across industry return and value and momentum asset price anomalies through a new perspective and uses machine learning and spatial econometrics approaches. The first chapter examines the main approaches developed in the cross-section asset pricing literature for finding risk variables. The second chapter focuses on spatial co-movement across US industry returns. We show that spatial co-movement explains the variance in US industry returns after accounting for exposure to common variables, serial dynamics, and industry sector-specific characteristics using a dynamic spatial panel data model. The results show that an investment strategy that buys industry portfolios with high …

Changing The Industry’S Dynamics Covid 19’S Reversible Impacts On Pakistan’S Reviving Tourism, Mohammad Ali Syed
MSJ Capstone Projects
Pakistan’s tourism industry, still in its infancy, has taken a major hit during the corona virus pandemic. One such example is the Shigri’s native region of Gilgit-Baltistan welcomes millions of tourists during the spring-summer season, but with the pandemic in full spring during peak travel season, his guest house along with hundreds of hospitality businesses across Pakistan remained shut for months causing millions in losses to the economy.
Essays On Anomalies In International Equity Markets, Xiao Cheng
Essays On Anomalies In International Equity Markets, Xiao Cheng
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
This dissertation consists of three chapters related to empirical asset pricing in the international stock market.
Chapter 1: "Loss of International Sales and Stock Performance" Using international firm-level data from 1990-2015, I show that when global firms' total international sales drop to zero, this conveys an important signal about future firm operations. An equal-weighted portfolio that sells stocks of firms that completely lost international sales and buys stocks of global firms earns up to 86 basis points per month (over 10% per year). This return predictability cannot be explained by the Fama-French international three- or five-factor models. Further examination suggests …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The new industrial revolution called Industry 4.0 is proliferating at its peak. The time is no longer away when the human race is going to witness a huge paradigm shift. Intelligent machines empowered by Artificial Intelligence (AI)will take over the presence of human workers in the industrial manufacturing sector with the target of achieving 100% automation. With the emergence of cut-throat price competition in the product market, it has become equally important to manufacture goods at minimal costs and with the highest quality. Predicting the decrease in machinery efficiency at an earlier stage to accomplish this objective helps to reduce …

Paper is in Spanish. English abstract: This study analyzes the spatial and temporal variability of precipitation across the Southern Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico, addressing the anomalies and trends of annual and seasonal precipitation as well as the occurrence of meteorological droughts, using rainfall data from nine weather stations during the period 1953-2007. Linear regression in the annual and seasonal rainfall were used to analyze the increase or decrease in precipitation trends over this period. Precipitation anomalies enabled the evaluation of the stability, deficit, or surplus of precipitation for each year or season, and a quintile method was used to …

From Efficient Market Theory To Behavioral Finance, Robert J. Shiller
From Efficient Market Theory To Behavioral Finance, Robert J. Shiller
Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers
The efficient markets theory reached the height of its dominance in academic circles around the 1970s. Faith in this theory was eroded by a succession of discoveries of anomalies, many in the 1980s, and of evidence of excess volatility of returns. Finance literature in this decade and after suggests a more nuanced view of the value of the efficient markets theory, and, starting in the 1990s, a blossoming of research on behavioral finance. Some important developments in the 1990s and recently include feedback theories, models of the interaction of smart money with ordinary investors, and evidence on obstacles to smart …

Overview Of Consciousness Research, Imants Barušs
Psychology
The purpose of this paper is to orient the reader to the contemporary scientific study of consciousness. One of the most noticeable features of research concerning consciousness is that there are three domains of discourse, the physiological, computational and experiential, each with its own methodology, and concerns. While confusion is often expressed about what it is that one is discussing, there are four main categories of definitions of the term consciousness: consciousness is the registration, processing and acting on information; behavioural consciousness is the explicit knowledge of one's situation, mental states or actions as demonstrated by one's behaviour; subjective consciousness …
The Effects Of Ethostasis On Farm Animal Behavior: A Theoretical Overview, A. F. Fraser, M. W. Fox
The Effects Of Ethostasis On Farm Animal Behavior: A Theoretical Overview, A. F. Fraser, M. W. Fox
Ethology Collection
The solution of animal problems that occur on the farm requires a holistic and multidisciplinary orientation and analysis, as well as the acquisition of new investigatory tools by both veterinarians and animal scientists. Field studies may be modeled under more controlled laboratory conditions, but the most relevant investigations must take place on the farm, and the first level of analysis should be ethological. Domestic animal behavior can be monitored and quantified like any other factor in the animals' environment; yet it has been virtually ignored in the development of new livestock husbandry systems.
The relationships between husbandry systems, disease problems, …
