Research Productivity Of College And Research Library Journal: A Bibliometric Study, Ofoedu Nkiruka Angela, Cynthia Okey-Okafor

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

The study analyses research productivity of College and Research Library Journal from 2012 to 2021 using bibliometric method. The journal published 808 research papers within the period. The published papers were analysed to determine, the type of document published, chronological distribution of published documents, authorship pattern, most productive articles and the subject coverage of published articles. The result of the study revealed that the types of documents published in C&RL include articles, book reviews, editorial materials, errata and letters. Lesley University's institutional repository (IR) continues to grow since it's launch in May 2017. This report discusses the addition of new collections including the migration of an academic journal, and the addition of two conferences. It also discusses the outreach efforts of the digital team and comments on the download metrics and how they indicate the demographics of users accessing Lesley scholarly and creative works. An infographic is included to provide a visual report of these metrics and to highlight the impact of Lesley scholarship.

This paper looks at the history of the Indiana Academy of the Social Sciences (IASS) and the organization’s contributions to the field. Through a careful examination of documents, newsletters, minutes, and correspondence, a rich account unfolds, demonstrating unceasing commitment to advancing research in multiple disciplines. The IASS built bridges between and among colleges and universities across the state, as well as with state institutions, professional associations, libraries, and high schools. For 85 years, it has promoted camaraderie and respect and has succeeded in fostering support for all of the social sciences.

PeerJ is the Open Access (OA) publisher of a biomedical journal, also called PeerJ. In addition to its peer-reviewed flagship, it runs a preprint server, PeerJ Preprints, to which authors can submit draft, incomplete, and final papers for informal peer review, and to establish precedent. The company’s chief innovation, however, is a novel if untried business model: extending to authors lifetime publication privileges in exchange for a one-time fee. This strategy adheres to the basic formula of fee-based Gold OA in that an upfront charge pays for the operations of the journal. PeerJ diverges from its predecessors in that it …

Academic Journal Prices In A Digital Age: A Two-Sided-Market Model, Mark J. Mccabe, Christopher M. Snyder

Digital-age technologies promise to revolutionize the market for academic journals as they have other media. We model journals as intermediaries linking authors with readers in a two-sided market. We use the model to study the division of fees between authors and readers under various market structures, ranging from monopoly to free entry. The results help explain why print journals traditionally obtained most of their revenue from subscription fees. The results raise the possibility that digitization may lead to a proliferation of online journals targeting various author types.
