Our research into the online clothing shopping industry has revealed an opportunity to mobilize the strengths of online shopping to build an in-person community. One company we researched, Poshmark, a social, peer-to-peer resale app, uses the strengths of social media to create an online community-based secondhand clothing market. However, one of the largest problems facing society today is the ease of replacing human connection with screen time in today’s world. Online shopping provides convenience, variety, and a larger reach than traditional stores do. However, the human element is often lost. Our company seeks to take the goal of Poshmark to …
U.S. Foreign Aid’S Effects On Un Voting Patterns From Years 2017-2023, Brody Young
U.S. Foreign Aid’S Effects On Un Voting Patterns From Years 2017-2023, Brody Young
Undergraduate Theses
This is a study of the relationship between U.S. Foreign Aid and its effects on a receiving nation’s voting coincidence, with voting coincidence measuring how often a nation votes the same as the U.S. in the UN General Assembly. In this study the dependent variable is voting coincidence in the UN General Assembly. The primary independent variable is the average amount of foreign aid UN nations have received from the U.S. in 2017-2023. With several other more minor independent variables including average GDP of nations from 2017-2023, the average population of a nation from 2017-2023, whether a nation is a …

The Buffering Effect Of Psychological Capital On Technology Anxiety And Adoption: An Examination Through The Lens Of Artificial Intelligence, Hannah Wagner
Industrial-Organizational Psychology Dissertations
This study examines how psychological resources moderate the relationship between technology anxiety and technology adoption, using artificial intelligence (AI) as a contemporary exemplar of emerging workplace technologies. Despite significant investments in technological infrastructure, organizations continue to struggle with limited employee adoption—a challenge that extends beyond technical barriers to psychological dimensions. Drawing on Psychological Capital (PsyCap) theory, this research investigates how self-efficacy, hope, optimism, and resilience collectively moderate the established negative relationship between technology anxiety and adoption. Through a quantitative approach analyzing survey data from 1,200 employees at a large technology consulting firm, this study provides insights into psychological mechanisms that …
Professional Growth Through Reflective Practice: An Analysis Of Self, Emmalee H. Groff/Traurig
Professional Growth Through Reflective Practice: An Analysis Of Self, Emmalee H. Groff/Traurig
Dissertations, Theses, and Projects
This project is a comprehensive analysis of self, conducted throughout my graduate school studies in school counseling. The examination consisted of an extensive reflection of my background, experiences, values, and personal growth. Completed through assessments, interviews, analysis of interests, passion, theoretical exploration, and intentional reflection of what shapes me as a person and my professional identity as a school counselor. Noting consistent themes across the assessments and interviews included empathy, faith, compassion, and a deep desire to help others. Simultaneously, I identified areas for continued future growth, including finding balance in harmony with honesty, redefining productivity within the helping profession, …

Single Custodial Fathers And The Challenges To Receiving Services, Oriesha Anyah Peña
Single Custodial Fathers And The Challenges To Receiving Services, Oriesha Anyah Peña
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Single fathers are an increasing population in the United States and worldwide. However, the literature and programs that guide human services professionals supporting single fathers’ parenting experience are limited in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. There is a need to further study the varied challenges these fathers experience so that professionals in social support organizations and agencies can implement appropriate services, support, programs, and resources into practice and ensure access to support their families and parenting. This qualitative study includes a force field analysis as part of a formative program needs assessment to explore human services professionals' perceptions of service needs, …
Legal Permanent Residents’ Five-Year Residency Benefits Restriction, Enoch Olayinka Badamosi
Legal Permanent Residents’ Five-Year Residency Benefits Restriction, Enoch Olayinka Badamosi
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The contemporary U.S. welfare system, shaped by the 1996 Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act and reinforced by the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act, established structural exclusions that bar lawful permanent residents (LPRs) from accessing core social welfare programs during their first five years of residency. Existing research provides support that exclusionary provisions caused economic instability, bureaucratic discrimination, and racialized stigma for immigrant participants, limiting access to basic needs, reinforcing poverty, and ultimately eroding trust in U.S. institutions. The purpose of this study was to bridge the gap in knowledge by examining the cumulative socio-economic and moral …
Violence As Capital: Violent Capital And The Case Of Social Hierarchies, Jeffrey Hass
Violence As Capital: Violent Capital And The Case Of Social Hierarchies, Jeffrey Hass
Sociology and Anthropology Faculty Publications
This paper proposes violent capital as an analytic tool to explore violence and its relation to the social order. Following Pierre Bourdieu on cultural capital, I suggest we think of violence as a potential asset that can be invested in or exchanged for another asset, position, or status. After an introductory discussion of conceptualization and operationalization, and to bring the concept to life and suggest analytic utility, the paper turns to violent capital and hierarchies. Given the centrality of states to the history of violence (Tilly 1992; Mann 1986, 1993; North, Wallis, and Weingast 2009), examining violent capital and hierarchies …
Graduate Student Supervision And Artificial Intelligence: Findings From Academic Faculty Interviews Across Disciplines, Kari D. Weaver, Nadine Fladd
Graduate Student Supervision And Artificial Intelligence: Findings From Academic Faculty Interviews Across Disciplines, Kari D. Weaver, Nadine Fladd
Transforming Libraries for Graduate Students
There is widespread discussion in higher education about the potential implications of GenAI for research and writing tasks (George, 2023). Many graduate students are under intense pressure to finish their degree milestones in a timely manner, and these rapidly evolving technologies offer the potential to optimize and automate much of the research and writing process. But the ethical, developmental, and career implications of graduate students – both masters’ and doctoral – using these technologies requires particularly careful consideration, as these students are simultaneously learners, scholars, and, sometimes, educators. Although emerging research about GenAI use in higher education has examined the …

Transforming Libraries for Graduate Students
Graduate students often find themselves balancing the demands of research and writing while managing complex academic and personal needs. Writing retreats provide an intentional space for graduate students to focus on their academic goals while supporting community-building, institutional belonging, and a welcoming environment. This proposal outlines a model for academic librarians and staff to plan and implement an effective graduate writing retreat designed to support graduate student academic activities through intentional collaboration and documentation.
Penn State University’s (PSU) Graduate Student Writing Retreat started as an event housed within the University Library’s Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) department. The retreat …

The Academic Research And Writing Camp: Collaborating On An Intensive Thesis Workshop For Graduate Students, Stephanie Crowe, Sam Nesbitt Zelick
Transforming Libraries for Graduate Students
Academic libraries at master’s and PhD-granting institutions frequently end up fielding questions about thesis and dissertations that we are often missing context to answer thoroughly. These sorts of questions can be more frequent at institutions such as ours, which is a relatively new high-research activity (“R2”) campus that is still in the process of developing supports for graduate-level research.
Having seen this need in our own context, the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) began a semesterly Academic Research and Writing Camp workshop in Spring 2025 as a partnership between UNCW Library, the University Learning Center, and the Graduate School. …

Building Belonging: The Library Supporting A Hub For Graduate Research, Elizabeth Dawson, Genova Boyd, Drake Jesse
Transforming Libraries for Graduate Students
Three librarians are working to create the ideal library space for graduate students to achieve their academic goals and connect with other grad students. The Graduate Research Support Hub (GRSH) at UAF Rasmuson Library started with an inspired idea and an examination of how other universities support graduate student research. We wanted to provide a flexible space to meet the distinctive needs of graduate students as they prepare for conference presentations, thesis work, publication, and dissertation defense and serve as a specialized area that is dedicated to graduate students. We surveyed graduate students from a variety of disciplines on campus, …
Teaching Evidence-Based Practice In Social Work: Practical Instructional Design Approaches For Graduate Students, Nicholas D. Bambach
Teaching Evidence-Based Practice In Social Work: Practical Instructional Design Approaches For Graduate Students, Nicholas D. Bambach
Transforming Libraries for Graduate Students
Across the social and health sciences, evidence-based practice (EBP) serves as a cornerstone of professional education and links research-based knowledge to real-world decision-making. Students are expected to integrate empirical findings with client needs, ethical considerations, and professional best practices. Yet many graduate students struggle to translate theoretical concepts into applied practice. Academic librarians, particularly those serving as subject liaisons and specialists, are well positioned to partner with social work faculty to design scaffolded instructional experiences that integrate research literacy with social work’s ethical and humanistic frameworks. Through librarian–faculty partnerships, librarians can help students critically engage with research evidence while honoring …
