Divided By Truth: Legislative Consequences Of Presidential Signaling On Social Media, Christian D. Pereira May 2026

Divided By Truth: Legislative Consequences Of Presidential Signaling On Social Media, Christian D. Pereira

Bryant University Undergraduate Journal

How does presidential communication on social media shape legislative behavior in Congress? While presidents have traditionally been seen as capable of mobilizing coalitions through public appeals, this dynamic may no longer hold in the contemporary media environment. Focusing on posts from President Donald Trump’s platform, Truth Social, we examine whether presidential commentary referencing Congress affects subsequent legislative activity. Drawing on theories of agenda setting and elite signaling, we argue that visible presidential communication increases the partisan salience of issues and alters legislators’ incentives. Using an original dataset of Trump’s Truth Social posts merged with measures of congressional activity, we find …

Operational Architecture Models As A Determinant And Framework Of Return On Equity Structure, Aydin Dibonaventura

Bryant University Undergraduate Journal

Lots of data attained within standard business practices may be seen as very significant but straightforward and many individuals fail to acknowledge the additional value that these data based strategies provide. Businesses may undergo different management structures, unique operational strategies, or complex supply chain systems from one another, but they all manage to attain ROE1 results within the same range at the end of each fiscal year. The Dupont financial analysis is a commonly used methodology that dissects the basic ROE value into profit margin, asset turnover, and financial leverage. These three values allow those to not only digest what …

Remaking Buford Highway: Immigration And The Struggle For Walkable Suburbia, Amit Kamma May 2026

Remaking Buford Highway: Immigration And The Struggle For Walkable Suburbia, Amit Kamma

Harvey M. Applebaum ’59 Award

Constructed according to a car-centric vision typical of American suburbs, one segment of Buford Highway outside Atlanta has become a corridor defined by immigrants who often walk and use public transit. These behaviors conflict with the existing car-focused infrastructure, compelling government actors to make the Highway more multimodal. Progress towards that goal is ongoing and precarious, demonstrating wider systemic challenges in U.S. planning and local governance.

Boundaries Of Inequality: The Political Economy Of Redlining And Modern Mortgage Credit, Kyle Guo May 2026

Boundaries Of Inequality: The Political Economy Of Redlining And Modern Mortgage Credit, Kyle Guo

Harvey M. Applebaum ’59 Award

This paper investigates the legacy of historical redlining on contemporary access to mortgage credit across three distinct urban policy environments: Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Manhattan. I find that while historical redlining is associated with a statistically significant negative effect on mortgage approval rates, the magnitude of this direct effect is relatively small. In comparison, applicant race, particularly for Black applicants, is a stronger predictor of mortgage approval rates across cities and models. This study utilizes 1930s Home Owners’ Loan Corporation (HOLC) residential security maps and Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) data from 2007 to 2017, and uses ordinary least squares (OLS) …

Understanding The Psychological And Social Determinants Of Drunk Driving Recidivism, Mackenzie L. Miller May 2026

Understanding The Psychological And Social Determinants Of Drunk Driving Recidivism, Mackenzie L. Miller

Aurora

Drunk driving continued to be a major public safety issue, and repeat offenses showed that punishment alone was not always effective. This study examined the psychological and social factors that contributed to drunk driving recidivism among college students, with a focus on impulsivity, risk perception, and peer influence. The goal was to better understand why some individuals continued to drive under the influence even after facing consequences. Data for this study were collected through a Qualtrics survey completed by 136 college students. The survey included questions about beliefs surrounding recidivism, levels of impulsivity, and experiences with peer pressure. Descriptive statistics …

Behind The Scores: How Federal Education Legislation Influenced Dayton Public Schools’ Special Education System For Students Of Color, Simran Kaur May 2026

Behind The Scores: How Federal Education Legislation Influenced Dayton Public Schools’ Special Education System For Students Of Color, Simran Kaur

Aurora

This paper analyzes the district special education system of Dayton Public Schools’ through federal legislation requirements and state-reported data to evaluate access, implementation, and equity. Findings show that while the district meets several procedural requirements at federal levels, students with disabilities (especially Black students) face limited access to general education environments, family engagement, and disability identification at a local level. Risk ratios reveal subjective disability categories, which is contributing to the district’s low Achievement Gap Closing rate through the state-wide report card.

Birth Control Use Alters Memory For A Stressful Experience, Julia N. Gross, Kristie Payment, Boyd R. Rorabaugh, Phillip R. Zoladz May 2026

Birth Control Use Alters Memory For A Stressful Experience, Julia N. Gross, Kristie Payment, Boyd R. Rorabaugh, Phillip R. Zoladz

Aurora

Hormonal birth control methods are widely used; however, some users suffer considerable side effects. Previous research suggests oral contraceptive users exhibit a blunted cortisol response to psychosocial stressors and alterations in emotional memory, including differential recall of emotional images and details of emotional stories. However, no studies have examined how birth control influences memory for a stressful experience.

The present study analyzes data previously collected from female undergraduate students. In this study, participants reported contraceptive use, then underwent a modified version of the Trier Social Stress Test (TSST) or the friendly-TSST (f-TSST). The TSST required participants to deliver a ten-minute, …

Variations In Moral Decision Making: In Morally Ambiguous Scenarios, Riley N. Eaton, Victoria Kempton, Edward Lansing, Troy R. Welker May 2026

Variations In Moral Decision Making: In Morally Ambiguous Scenarios, Riley N. Eaton, Victoria Kempton, Edward Lansing, Troy R. Welker

Aurora

People are tasked with making decisions that often come with consequences, whether it be for someone else or themselves. Due to this, there is an ambiguity in understanding what is “right” and “wrong” in a given scenario. However, limited research has examined how interpersonal relationships and intensity of the punishment may affect this decision-making process. This study examines the effect of interpersonal closeness and punishment intensity on moral decision-making, defined in terms of fairness and empathy. Participants (N = 54) from a midwestern university were randomly assigned to one of three interpersonal closeness conditions (close friend vs. close friend, close …

Associations Between Mmpi-3 And Cape Scores: Measuring Psychosis Symptoms In A Non-Clinical Population, Tigis A. Applin, Ashlynne N. Wright, Andrew Kremyar, Megan R. Whitman, Yossef S. Ben-Porath Ph.D. May 2026

Associations Between Mmpi-3 And Cape Scores: Measuring Psychosis Symptoms In A Non-Clinical Population, Tigis A. Applin, Ashlynne N. Wright, Andrew Kremyar, Megan R. Whitman, Yossef S. Ben-Porath Ph.D.

Aurora

Psychosis includes two major types of symptoms: positive (i.e., hallucinations, delusions, paranoia) and negative (i.e., flat affect, poverty of speech, lack of motivation). Psychosis is also frequently comorbid with depressive and other mood disorder symptoms. Differentiating positive, negative, and depression symptoms is important, as practicing clinicians may tailor treatments to specific presenting symptoms. The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-3 (MMPI-3) is a broadband measure of personality and psychopathology that includes scales that measure both psychosis and depression related symptoms. Prior studies indicate that scale scores on previous versions of the MMPI-3 can help with the differential diagnosis of depressive and psychosis-related …
