The Qualitative Report
This paper offers a commentary and reflection on papers included in the Narrative Practice Research Network Special Issue of The Qualitative Report. A brief introductory account is offered around the distinctive nature of narrative therapy and community work, in contrast to more widely used models of therapy. Challenges and dilemmas associated with research into counselling and psychotherapy are discussed. It is suggested that the work of the Narrative Practice Research Network represents a promising means of addressing these challenges through a combination of grounding in practice, commitment to an ethics of care, and creative reconceptualization of standard research tools such …
A New Value Investment Formula For Turing Complete Blockchains With Proof Of Stake Algorithm, Francesco Spinoglio
A New Value Investment Formula For Turing Complete Blockchains With Proof Of Stake Algorithm, Francesco Spinoglio
Journal of New Finance
This paper proposes an adaptation of Benjamin Graham's value investment formula to the context of Turing complete blockchains with proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus algorithm. The research examines the specific characteristics of these blockchains, taking into account metrics such as total value locked (TVL), Network Value to Transaction Ratio (NVT), average benchmark reward rate and annual rewards received for staking. A methodology will be developed that integrates Graham's fundamental principles with the economic and technical particularities of the crypto ecosystem, providing a robust framework for the evaluation of digital assets in these innovative environments.

It presents the international results from the third cycle of the study IEA’s International Civic and Citizenship Education Study (ICCS 2022). Based on data from 24 countries or benchmarking participants from Europe, Latin America, and Asia, ICCS 2022 studies contexts for and learning outcomes of civic and citizenship education in a wide range of national contexts at the beginning of the third decade of the 21st Century. It responds to both enduring and emerging challenges of educating young …
Expanding Our Horizons While Maintaining Our Balance, Daniel K. Blewett
Expanding Our Horizons While Maintaining Our Balance, Daniel K. Blewett
Library Scholarship
The constant winds of change have blown more collection development demands to the doorsteps of community college libraries, resulting in a stress on resources. Libraries are being asked to do more with the same or fewer resources. Many community college libraries are now supporting more than just the traditional career and technical educa- tion, or general education courses. Dual enrollment, new programs, and partnering with four-year institutions for new articulation agreements, are examples of the changing needs community colleges may experience. As institutional needs continue to evolve it will be necessary for community college libraries to expand their collection development …

Library Scholarship
The College of DuPage (COD) Library is large for a community college, closer to a four- year college library in some respects, with 250,000 print volumes, 125,000 ebooks, over sixty staff members, and ten full-time faculty librarians. The library has a subject liaison arrangement in which the librarian has the responsibility to curate the collection for their subject areas. Librarians can take a broader view of the collection composition, discipline relationships, and student usage, as they have been professionally trained for this activity. The collections budget at COD is allocated to the liaison librarians to spend as they see fit, …

Why Her Business Is Our Business: Female Psychotherapists’ Experiences Working With The Perinatal Population, Alexa Garber M.S.
Selected Full Text Dissertations, 2011-
Approximately 800,000 women in the United States yearly suffer from maternal mental health (MMH) conditions (Maternal Mental Health Leadership Alliance, 2020). Not only is MMH the most common complication of pregnancy and childbirth, but rates have increased with the COVID-19 pandemic causing pregnant women and new mothers to be even more vulnerable to developing mental health problems (Thapa et al., 2020). Research on the consequences of the pandemic have indicated a pressing demand on the field of psychology to meet the needs of individuals suffering from maternal mental health. Various challenges healthcare professionals face when working with the perinatal population …
Examining Dbt Clinicians’ Perspectives Involving Parents Of Emerging Adults In Treatment: A Qualitative Study, Emma Bernstein M.S.
Examining Dbt Clinicians’ Perspectives Involving Parents Of Emerging Adults In Treatment: A Qualitative Study, Emma Bernstein M.S.
Selected Full Text Dissertations, 2011-
Emerging adults (ages 18-29) are at a heightened risk for developing mental illnesses, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and dying by suicide. Further, some emerging adults are considered to have “failed to launch” from their parents’ homes, leading to a postponement to full-fledged adulthood. While parents often play a significant role in their emerging adults’ lives, there is limited research on evidence-based treatment for emerging adults that systematically incorporate parents. Given the strong research support for Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Adolescents (DBT-A) that includes parent involvement, it is sensible to consider applying developmentally tailored adaptations to additional populations and understand …

The Cashew Nut Industry In Mongu District: Origins, Development, And Impact, 1972–2011, Namushi Situtu
Zambia Social Science Journal
This article explores the contribution of the cashew nut industry to the economic development of Mongu district. The industry was introduced in Mongu district after the Zambian government embarked on the creation of agricultural schemes to reduce the economic imbalance, inherited from the colonial government, between urban and rural areas. The new United National Independence Party government, which came to power in 1964, wanted to develop rural areas through an improved peasantry class. This led to the establishment of agricultural schemes in various rural parts of the country. Due to the sandy terrain of Mongu district, the cashew nut industry …
“Blood And Fire” In Chikankata: An Idiosyncratic Approach To Religious Conversion By The Salvation Army In Colonial Zambia, 1945–1964, Apex Mwanza
Zambia Social Science Journal
This article examines distinctive strategies used by the Salvation Army to convert Africans to Christianity in the Chikankata district of Zambia. Using data from both primary and secondary sources, the article argues that the Salvation Army largely relied on African agents and the use of open-air meetings, march pasts, uniform wearing, and brass bands as methods of evangelism. This stands in contrast to academic lenses that have viewed and endorsed missionary education and healthcare provision as principal methods of evangelism in colonial central Africa.

Lusaka's Colonial Legacy: Town Planning, Public Health, And The Making Of A Segregated City, 1913–1963. A Study Of Power, Inequality, And Urban Development, Wamburakwao J. Sapao
Zambia Social Science Journal
This paper explores the intersection of town planning and public health policy in Lusaka, Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia), during the colonial period (1913–1963), which was a time of significant urban growth and transformation. British colonial authorities adapted Ebenezer Howard's Garden City principles to design and manage Lusaka, but these measures perpetuated spatial control, segregation, and social engineering, thus exacerbating racial and socio-economic disparities. By analysing secondary and primary sources, including planning ordinances, zoning regulations, and public health policies, this study reveals how these measures shaped the city's development and reinforced inequalities. Despite colonial intentions for a white settler-city, Lusaka evolved …
Understanding Project Mentality As A Threat To The Sustainability Of Donor-Supported Interventions: Insights From A Zambian Reading Intervention, Charity Meki-Kombe
Understanding Project Mentality As A Threat To The Sustainability Of Donor-Supported Interventions: Insights From A Zambian Reading Intervention, Charity Meki-Kombe
Zambia Social Science Journal
This article provides valuable insights into project mentality (PM) as a threat to the sustainability of donor-supported interventions. The article examines factors triggering PM through a case study of a donor-supported reading intervention in Zambia and proposes ways to minimise the impact of PM. The study adopted a qualitative-interpretivist-case study approach, including interviews with 35 key stakeholders (eight head teachers, fifteen teachers, six representatives from donor agencies, and six Ministry of Education officials) and data collection through document analysis and classroom observations. Different attitudes and behaviour, such as stereotyping, alienation, and lack of confidence, ownership, commitment, and interest in donor-driven …

Importance Of Library Metrics And Effective Methods Of Communication With Provosts, Katy Zane
Importance Of Library Metrics And Effective Methods Of Communication With Provosts, Katy Zane
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Provosts and librarians share a common goal of needing to measure library activity in such a way that appropriately conveys how it contributes to the institution’s campus initiatives and strategic planning. The goal of this research was to determine how best to analyze these activities through agreed upon metrics and preferred communication styles. By combining the two aspects of analytical metrics and communication methods, this research would provide a common ground that both provosts and librarians could build upon for the future growth and development of the library.

Goodtimer For Good Behavior: A Nonconcurrent Multiple Baseline Examination Of A Behavioral Device Intervention To Reduce Child Misbehaviors, Morgan Weinstein
Goodtimer For Good Behavior: A Nonconcurrent Multiple Baseline Examination Of A Behavioral Device Intervention To Reduce Child Misbehaviors, Morgan Weinstein
Selected Full Text Dissertations, 2011-
Behavioral Parent Training (BPT) effectively decreases disruptive behavior in children (Daley et al., 2014). Nonetheless, many parents perceive BPT to be challenging and demanding, leading to reports of high treatment dropout rates (Chacko et al., 2016.) To address this, the present study evaluated the effectiveness of Goodtimer, a behavioral health device utilizing contingency management, an element of BPT, to mitigate child disruptive behaviors. The Goodtimer is designed to make administering a contingency management system easier for parents. Employing a nonconcurrent multiple baseline design, the study assessed six families with children aged 3-9 years. Most parents who used the Goodtimer reported …
Transpersonal Philosophy Grows Up: A Clarification Of Ken Wilber’S Most Recent Updates To His Theoretical Framework, Ritske Rensma
Transpersonal Philosophy Grows Up: A Clarification Of Ken Wilber’S Most Recent Updates To His Theoretical Framework, Ritske Rensma
International Journal of Transpersonal Studies Advance Publication Archive
The fact that there are multiple phases to Ken Wilber’s theoretical development has been widely recognized, with Wilber himself arguing that his works can be divided into four distinct phases (1983/2001). Students of Wilber’s work later added a fifth and final phase, which is said to begin in 2001. What has received hardly any scholarly attention, however, is the fact that Wilber still made major changes to his theoretical framework several years after the beginning of phase 5 in Integral Spirituality (2006), and that it is only after the publication of this book that his thinking really reaches a steady …
Unitlessness: Highlighting The Trans-Discursive Qualities Of Nondualism And Implications For Psychological Terminology, Christian U. Krägeloh
Unitlessness: Highlighting The Trans-Discursive Qualities Of Nondualism And Implications For Psychological Terminology, Christian U. Krägeloh
International Journal of Transpersonal Studies Advance Publication Archive
Nondual awareness has recently gained increased interest in broader psychological research. In meditation contexts, it reflects the dissolution of subject and object, while in Maha_ya_na Buddhism, practitioners aim to develop insight that leads to awareness of nonduality in everyday-life situations. Traditionally, teaching of nondualism employed paradoxes to prompt nonconceptual inquiry into reconciling dualistic contradictions. To offer an approach to communicate nondualism to a modern audience of psychology researchers, the framework of unitlessness is introduced here, which differentiates between linguistic characteristics (units) and experiential phenomena (unity), both within an enveloping ineffability (unitlessness). This type of nondualism is trans-discursive, as it acknowledges …

The Nondual Realization Of Advaita Vedanta Does Not Support A Psychological Theory Of Consciousness, Glenn Hartelius
The Nondual Realization Of Advaita Vedanta Does Not Support A Psychological Theory Of Consciousness, Glenn Hartelius
International Journal of Transpersonal Studies Advance Publication Archive
Advaita Vedanta is seen as something of an authoritative source for nondual philosophies and theories of consciousness that postulate a pure featureless awareness at the base of mental experience. These approaches deviate from both the lineage-based teachings of Advaita Vedanta and the necessary standards of science, constructing compromises that fall short of traditional fidelity and psychological rigor. Dialogues between psychology and Advaita Vedanta need to delineate clearly between a sensate phenomenology of experience and spiritual interpretations that may be implicit within experiential descriptions.
Killing Two Birds With One Phone: Exclusion By Technology And Attachment Within Couples’ Daily Interactions, Julianne Patrice Lawson
Killing Two Birds With One Phone: Exclusion By Technology And Attachment Within Couples’ Daily Interactions, Julianne Patrice Lawson
Selected Full-Text Dissertations 2020-
This study explored the role of attachment during covert rejection experiences. Specifically, the study examined exclusion by technology in romantic couples’ daily interactions. A partner’s retreat into their own technology device can create the experience of separation and provoke feelings of being ignored. Couples’ attachment styles were examined with daily ratings of perceived partner attention on technology (P-Tech), relationship conflict, and relationship satisfaction. Daily diary methodologies were employed in a sample of 125 cohabitating romantic couples (250 participants) over a two-week period. Multilevel modeling (MLM) revealed a significant negative within-person effect of P-Tech on daily relationship satisfaction. Relationship conflict and …

Fearing The Other: The Underlying Mechanisms Of Mental Illness Stigma, Theresa Maria Power
Selected Full-Text Dissertations 2020-
This study sought to clarify the underlying mechanisms behind mental illness stigma. Using a sample of 303 adults from the general population, participants completed a series of online self-reports in response to a vignette about “Harry,” an individual who was described as either Black or White, with schizophrenia or depression. Respondents answered questions regarding perceptions of dangerousness, causal attributions of mental illness, and endorsement of stigmatizing beliefs, and also provided narratives for Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) cards that were coded using the Social Cognition and Object Relations Scale (SCORS). Results of structural equation modeling indicated that there was no direct …
