The Impact Of A Biblically Based Marriage Boot Camp Program: Effective Or Not, Wanda Thomas
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The goal of this Doctor of Ministry thesis project, entitled The Impact of a Biblical Marriage Boot Camp: Effective or Not, was to explore the effectiveness of the biblically based Marriage Boot Camp program offered by Victorious Praise Fellowship Church which aims to strengthen African American marriages. The project addressed a significant concern about marriage relationship within a church congregation and the broader community and the need for practical, faith-centered tools and teachings to support marital satisfaction and longevity in the African American community. Through interviews, observations, and analysis, the project discussed specific areas in the Marriage Boot Camp program …

Quiet Quitting Out Loud: A Qualitative Study Of Digital Communication Through Public Discourse On Youtube Regarding An Evolving Work Behavior Trend, Jessica R. Koch
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This dissertation examines the phenomenon of online discourse surrounding quiet quitting, a trending movement that has gone viral on social media. This trend encourages individuals to set work-life boundaries and reject excessive labor demands by contributing only what is required at work. The study aims to explore how news sources and users alike engage with this concept, particularly using YouTube as a platform for advocacy and community-building. A qualitative content analysis was conducted to analyze a sample of news segment videos published on YouTube on the topic of quiet quitting, focusing on emerging themes within those conversations and the role …

You Belong With Me: Examining The Relationship Between Engagement In The “Swifty” Fan Community, Feelings Of Belonging, And Social Identity, Jessica Leigh Webb
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Belongingness and social identity shape human behavior and group dynamics, yet their relationship with fan engagement remains understudied. This study examines engagement in the “Swifty” fan community—fans of Taylor Swift—and its relationship with belonging and social identity. A quantitative, correlational design addressed three research questions: (1) the relationship between fan engagement and belonging, (2) the relationship between fan identification and belonging, and (3) the relationship between fan identification and social identity. Data were collected via an online Qualtrics survey incorporating the General Belongingness Scale, Three-Factor Model of Social Identity Scale, Popular Media Fan Identity Scale, and demographic items. The survey …
The Correlation Of Intergenerational Faith On Black Families, Anita Serwaa Bonsu
The Correlation Of Intergenerational Faith On Black Families, Anita Serwaa Bonsu
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Parent-child relationships play a significant role in predicting human behavior during childhood development. As more individuals become religiously unaffiliated, this research explored the factors contributing to this reality. Many studies have highlighted the correlation of parents on behavior; however, few have examined the intergenerational closeness and religiosity within Black families in America. The primary goal of this study was to assess the correlation of parent-child closeness on intrinsic religiosity among Black families. The research asked the following question: Does parent-child closeness positively correlate with intrinsic religiosity among adult Black children? The sample consisted of 73 Black adults aged 18 years …

Connections Between Co-Occurring Symptoms Of Eating Disorders, Gut Dysbiosis, Anxiety, And Depression, Erin L. Thomas
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Eating disorders (ED) are a pervasive mental health condition that puts individuals at risk for long-term physical consequences or even death, and current treatment methods typically do not offer long-term efficacy. The current study aims to examine relationships between co-occurring symptoms of EDs, gastrointestinal distress, anxiety, and depression to add to the scientific literature and point towards directions that may increase the benefits of treatment efforts. A total of 72 participants were asked to complete an online survey that consisted of measures from each variable and took about 20 minutes to finish. Participating individuals had to be at least 18 …
A Qualitative Analysis Of Job Satisfaction: Perspectives Of Private School Employees, Wede Lorraine Wallace
A Qualitative Analysis Of Job Satisfaction: Perspectives Of Private School Employees, Wede Lorraine Wallace
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The educational marketplace is highly competitive, and schools and higher learning institutions incessantly strive for sustainable education and strategies to adjust to environmental and economic changes. This scenario was especially experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic when schools had to change from the traditional learning style to the virtual approach, thereby imposing a string of financial downturns from a reduction in tuition while still maintaining overhead costs. The change forced leaders to make organizational changes to remain financially stable. The general problem addressed by this case study was the challenges leaders faced in gaining employee support for changes to administrative work …

Children’s Nutrition Research Center Staff Publications
Key Points:
-
Pediatric patients residing in low-resource neighborhoods experienced lower rates of preemptive and living donor kidney transplantation.
-
Household-level factors (single-parent, non-English primary language, and receiving government assistance) may also affect the type of transplant received.
-
Area Deprivation Index scores offer an objective way to quantify neighborhood-level disadvantage and can enhance pretransplant screening.
Background: Living donor kidney transplant (LDKT) generally results in better outcomes than deceased donor kidney transplant (DDKT). Preemptive kidney transplant (KT) allows patients to bypass undergoing maintenance dialysis and is associated with improved patient and graft survival. Studies in the US pediatric population have shown racial-ethnic disparities …
Sport, Soft Disempowerment And The 1966 Fifa World Cup, Richard Woodward
Sport, Soft Disempowerment And The 1966 Fifa World Cup, Richard Woodward
Articles
Sport is increasingly acknowledged as a vital component of the United Kingdom’s arsenal of soft power assets. However, the UK’s attempts to wring soft power from sport have met with mixed success. Many of the UK’s experiences align with an embryonic literature suggesting that sport, as well as enabling the production of soft power, is simultaneously capable of eroding it, a phenomenon dubbed ‘soft disempowerment’. Drawing upon original archival documents, this article examines how the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) commandeered the 1966 World Cup and England’s victory in the competition in a doomed attempt to communicate positive messages …

Short Duration Relationship And Marriage Education (Rme) During Covid-19: Outcomes And Future Directions, Pamela B. Payne, Naomi Brower, Melanie Jewkes
Transforming Communities
Abstract
COVID-19 reshaped short duration relationship marriage education (RME), requiring that previously in person programs, including the Utah Marriage Celebration (UMC) move to remote formats. It is critical that outcomes of such transitions are evaluated and assessed. Marriage Celebration 2021 included 348 participants who responded after participating in the virtual event and 148 participants who responded to a one month follow up. Results indicate that like prior Marriage Celebration events, participants indicated their perceived relationship knowledge increased. Commitment to change was evaluated for the first time and showed significant results related to age and issues being covered. Implications for RME …

Effective Leadership Theories For Geographers In Education, Sharafat Khan
Effective Leadership Theories For Geographers In Education, Sharafat Khan
The Geographical Bulletin
n higher education institutions, the position and merit of geography has been gradually declining. Geography programs have been reviewed regarding the value, nature, purpose, and utility of the discipline. Some geography departments have been terminated, such as the one at the University of Michigan (Kish & Ward, 1981). Skeptics of geography, moreover, point to the great range of problems, such as the identity of geography and the role it plays in education, which have plagued the discipline. Yet effective and efficient leadership have rarely been voiced as one means to enhance the status of geography. It is the intent of …
Catastrophic Michigan Tornadoes, 1950-1984, George M. Howe, Carl F. Ojala
Catastrophic Michigan Tornadoes, 1950-1984, George M. Howe, Carl F. Ojala
The Geographical Bulletin
During the 35-year period from 1950 through 1984, 520 tornadoes were reported and confirmed in Michigan. Slightly less than one quarter of them killed a total of 234 people, injured 3,102, and caused hundreds of millions of dollars in property damage.' A violent tornado in Genesee County on June 8,1953, widely referred to since then as "The Flint Tornado," was responsible for 116 deaths, the greatest number of deaths by a single tornado in the entire United States that year. The worst in Michigan's history, the Flint Tornado death toll ranks fourth largest in the nation, by single tornadoes, for …
Perceptual Comparison Of Four Common Quantitative Map Symbols, Warren W. Lawrence
Perceptual Comparison Of Four Common Quantitative Map Symbols, Warren W. Lawrence
The Geographical Bulletin
A fundamental technique to convey quantitative information on maps is use of symbols.' Four of the most common symbols for this purpose are circle sectors, bar segments, graduated squares and graduated circles . 2 The ability of these four symbols to communicate accurate information to map readers has been the subject of research by those interested in the cognitive process. The purpose of the research reported here was to compare these four symbols in terms of how accurately they were perceived by test subjects. The results of this research indicate some symbols were perceived more accurately than others. This should …
Geographical Elements Affecting Quaintness In Tourist Town Developments-Topography And Transportation, Deborah A. Fitzwater-Dewey
Geographical Elements Affecting Quaintness In Tourist Town Developments-Topography And Transportation, Deborah A. Fitzwater-Dewey
The Geographical Bulletin
An understanding of recreation geography is an important factor, now and in the future, as we strive to make the best decisions to serve the public. Although the roots of recreational geography extend into the 1920s in the United States,l there are few American articles devoted to the subject. Literature pertaining to the field is mainly from British, European, and Canadian sources. How transportation, topography, and planning affect tourist destination patterns is of utmost importance to recreation geographers. Prior studies 1-13 have not reached agreement on what methods may be used for determining the effects of transportation or topography on …
Distribution And Property Value Impacts Displayed By Adult Foster Care Facilities: Ann Arbor, Michigan, Mary Beth Moss
Distribution And Property Value Impacts Displayed By Adult Foster Care Facilities: Ann Arbor, Michigan, Mary Beth Moss
The Geographical Bulletin
The establishment of Adult Foster Care Facilities (AFC's) in residential areas is seen by many people as a Locally Unwanted Land Use (LULU).' Adult Foster Care is needed throughout the nation yet these structural uses often meet with community opposition. In addition to concerns about personal safety, a frequent basis for community opposition to location of a group home in a middle class neighborhood is the fear that property values will plummet, either due to deterioration of the neighborhood or the reluctance of buyers to purchase a dwelling near the facility.2 Such community opposition may be the most evident deterent …

An Automated World Climate Tutorial, Ray Lougeay, Tomas Miller
An Automated World Climate Tutorial, Ray Lougeay, Tomas Miller
The Geographical Bulletin
Students and teachers of Physical Geography and Climatology often find that a great deal of repetitive practice is required for one to develop the skill to identify a given climate type when presented with monthly temperature and precipitation data (e.g., Fig. 1). Ideally, when observing standard climatic data, the student will have acquired some ability to locate a station in its proper hemisphere and locate it in a reasonably logical location. To do this one must be able to translate the temperature and precipitation data into an understanding of annual regimes of heat energy and moisture surplus, or deficit. A …
Nuclear Waste And North Carolina, C. Phillip Webb
Nuclear Waste And North Carolina, C. Phillip Webb
The Geographical Bulletin
As the number of new oil fields and the further development of existing ones continues to decline, more and more attention is being given to other sources of energy such as coal, solar, hydroelectric, and nuclear power plants. Of the alternate energy sources listed above, the potentially most dangerous is probably nuclear energy. The danger comes from the waste products produced by generating electricity and the nuclear fuel cycle. During the nuclear fuel cycle-where uranium is enriched for use in nuclear generators-many waste by-products are generated, but the most radioactive occur at the end of the cycle. Nuclear waste, ranging …
Goldrush Migrations And Goldfield Populations In The American West 1848-1880, Rand E. Rohe
Goldrush Migrations And Goldfield Populations In The American West 1848-1880, Rand E. Rohe
The Geographical Bulletin
The discovery of placer gold initiated some of the most spectacular migrations ever to occur in the American West. The discovery of gold in California in 1848, of course, touched off the first of the western mining rushes. More importantly, its backwash led to the development of the rest of the mountain West. From California, the mining frontier moved eastward and subsequently enveloped most of the West. The background of the discovery of gold in California needs but cursory attention here. On January 24, 1848, in the course of constructing a sawmill on the American River, James Marshall noticed flecks …

Background: Anxiety disorders are among the most pervasive mental health challenges worldwide, affecting individuals across all demographics and socioeconomic backgrounds. As a leading contributor to disability and diminished quality of life, anxiety continues to rise in prevalence, exacerbated by global crises and societal stressors. This study explored how Zero Balancing (ZB) supports individuals with anxiety. Researchers hypothesized that ZB would lower the perceived severity of general anxiety and reduce perceived anxiety symptoms.
Methods: A concurrent mixed-methods phenomenological research design was utilized to honor the holistic nature of bodywork and explore participants' lived experiences. This national study involved 320 ZB sessions …

Experiencing poverty and associated risk factors can be detrimental to families’ mental health and well-being. However, it is unclear whether experiencing specific types or patterns of adversity leads to distinct outcomes. Guided by the Family Stress Model, the objective of this study was to (a) identify unique family risk classes based on exposure to various combinations of poverty-related adversity and (b) examine whether the family risk classes differed in their levels of parental coping strategies, couple relationship quality, parenting practices, and child behavior problems. The sample included 301 mother–father–child triads (602 adults and 301 children) with a combined income ≤ …

Nonstationary Heterogeneous Panels With Multiple Structural Changes, Badi H. Baltagi, Qu Feng, Wei Wang
Nonstationary Heterogeneous Panels With Multiple Structural Changes, Badi H. Baltagi, Qu Feng, Wei Wang
Center for Policy Research
Nonstationary panels have been widely used in empirical studies in macroeconomics and finance. This paper considers multiple structural changes in nonstationary heterogeneous panels with common factors. Kapetanios, Pesaran, Yamagata (2011) showed that unobserved nonstationary factors can be proxied by cross-sectional averages of observable data. This means that unobserved error factors can be treated as additional regressors, and different break points in slopes and error factor loadings can be considered as multiple breaks in linear regression models with panel data. We generalize the least squares approach by Bai and Perron (1998) to nonstationary panels and show that the break points in …
