Cash Usage In Poland In 2020: Insights Into The Role Of The Covid-19 Pandemic And Spatial Aspects, Radosław Kotkowski, Arkadiusz Manikowski
Journal of Banking and Financial Economics
The study explores the factors likely to induce Polish customers to pay by cash, instead of payment cards, for goods and services they are purchasing. The basis of our investigation is microdata obtained in 2020, during the “Payment Habits in Poland in 2020” study, which was conducted by Narodowy Bank Polski (National Bank of Poland) in 2020. The analysis is performed using the two-stage Heckman approach. In the first stage, card adoption factors are analyzed using a probit model; then, in the second stage, the OLS model is employed to analyze the propensity to pay by cash, despite having a …

Ηow To Use Artificial Intelligence (Ai) As A Resource, Methodological And Analysis Tool In Qualitative Research?, Prokopis Christou
The Qualitative Report
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has had far-reaching effects in research and the academic world. It has been used in many ways by the scientific community within the context of qualitative research, such as literature and systematic reviews, for conceptualization purposes, thematic and content analysis. It has however prompted concerns and questions about the potential for unreliable research, bias, and unethical behavior in the outcomes of AI-produced research. The purpose this paper is to examine the current use of AI in research, its strengths and limitations, dilemmas and ethical considerations from theoretical critical perspective principles, while delivering five key considerations for the …

A Critical Perspective Over Whether And How To Acknowledge The Use Of Artificial Intelligence (Ai) In Qualitative Studies, Prokopis Christou
The Qualitative Report
There has been a rise in scepticism regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in qualitative research tasks such as critical reviews, conceptualization, thematic and content analysis, and potentially theory development. Concerns have been raised over the possibility that researchers intentionally avoid discussing or even mentioning the use of AI in their studies for a variety of reasons, including the "fear" of criticism and rejection of their papers. The purpose of this paper, which is guided by critical perspective principles, is to examine the controversy surrounding the appropriate recognition of AI in theoretical discussions and qualitative research, including conceptual, critical …

Unmasking Structural Racism In U.S. Medical Education: Advancing Equity For Underrepresented Medical Students, Daryl O. Traylor, Eboni E. Anderson, Destiney Kirby, Asia Nichole Hodges, Brianna Clark, Stephen Sinatra Jr.
Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences
The COVID pandemic cast a harsh light on the structural and systemic health inequalities that exist in American society and in U.S. medical education. Black and Brown communities were disproportionately affected, and the pandemic highlighted the need for a diverse physician and healthcare workforce. Both the lack of equitable, high-quality healthcare in underrepresented communities and the obstacles that students who are underrepresented in medicine (URiM) experience in medical school are direct consequences of the structural racism that flourishes in U.S. medical schools and healthcare institutions. In this article, we explain structural racism and how it has manifested itself in medical …

Media Coverage Of Non-Ideologically Motivated Mass Shootings Versus Ideologically Motivated Mass Shootings And How The Media Affects College Students' Perceptions Of Mass Shootings, Jennifer L. Larose
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
While much is known about how the media covers mass shootings within the United States and how this coverage impacts the public, much remains unknown about the media and international mass shootings. To address this gap this dissertation examines the relationship between the media coverage of ideological and non-ideological mass shootings that have occurred around the world. It then examines the relationship between media consumption and perceptions of mass shootings. To this end, newspaper coverage on a sample of ten mass shootings from 2011-2021 are examined temporally using the Social Coping Model. Results show that media coverage varies across time …

Factor Structure Of School Readiness Skills: Conceptual Vs. Statistical Distinctions, Robert Duncan, Kirsten L. Anderson, Jennifer Finders, David J. Purpura, Sara A. Schmitt
Purdue Center for Early Learning Faculty and Staff Publications
Introduction: School readiness skills are a broad set of abilities that children develop in early childhood that support achievement once they enter formal schooling. Three components of school readiness skills are of focus in the current study: executive function (EF), language/literacy, and mathematics. The current study examines to what extent 13 direct assessments of these skills statistically align with theoretical models for distinct construct- and timepoint-specific latent factors.
Methods: The sample included 684 children (52.34% male; 42% Black/African American; Mage = 4.80 years in the fall of prekindergarten) assessed in the fall and spring of the prekindergarten year.

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Human resources are a very important factor in the office administration and records management in company or government office. Performance in the archives and administration section is a unique function that requires high motivation to function as a managerial support in terms of providing archives, documents, and the production of manuscripts both in companies and in government. One important factor in human resources in the archives and music section is the influence of job discipline on performance. This study uses articles that identify the performance of administrative and archive employees in private and government companies. The results of the meta-analysis …
Unf@Cking People’S Problems: A Theory Of Policing, Laura Huey, Stephen Johnston
Unf@Cking People’S Problems: A Theory Of Policing, Laura Huey, Stephen Johnston
Sociology Publications
One of the problems that has plagued policing researchers over the past few decades – ourselves included -- is the interminable question of ‘what do police do?’ Some ideas, tasks, roles, institutions and other social creations are easy to define. Policing has not been one of those. In part, it’s because it’s not only a descriptive problem, it’s also a normative one. Once you start to address the question of what do police do, then you also have to wrestle with the much meatier issue of ‘what do we want police to do’? In this paper, we exercise our theory …

Politicians, Pundits, And Platform Migration: A Comparison Of Political Polarization On Parler And Twitter, Abigial Matthews, Jacqueline M. Otala, Esma Wali, Gillian Kurtic, Lynden Millington, Michael Simpson, Jeanna Matthews, Golshan Madraki
Northeast Journal of Complex Systems (NEJCS)
Parler, a self-proclaimed free speech social media platform founded in 2018, attracted a large influx of new members in 2020 as the result of a highly visible platform migration campaign. Parler usage was linked to the planning of the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the United States Capitol building, leading to a shutdown of the Parler platform. Parler, which is now back online, offers an important lens through which to examine the broader attempts at platform migration in response to changing content moderation and platform governance policies and their impact on political polarization. We begin by examining the network connections …
