Designing Movement-Based Interventions To Promote Self-Regulation In Early Childhood, Gayatri Sardana Jul 2023

Designing Movement-Based Interventions To Promote Self-Regulation In Early Childhood, Gayatri Sardana

Dissertations, 2020-current

Self-regulation skills are an important predictor of academic achievement, mental health, and positive behavior in the classroom (Blair & Diamond, 2008; Cameron et al., 2016; Skibbe et al., 2019). In early childhood, self-regulation is intrinsically connected with motor development. The neuropsychological overlap between the brain regions involved in cognitive and motor development can be leveraged through interventions. In bridging research and practice, this study proposes that movement-based interventions are a developmentally appropriate pathway to strengthen self-regulation skills in early childhood. Derived from research on neurocognitive processes involved in self-regulation (i.e., response inhibition, executive attention, and working memory), guidelines to design …

Pastoral Leadership As A Perceived Factor Of Changing Church Membership In South Carolina: A Phenomenological Study, Bobby L. Dukes Jul 2023

Pastoral Leadership As A Perceived Factor Of Changing Church Membership In South Carolina: A Phenomenological Study, Bobby L. Dukes

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The role of a pastor comprises many duties and responsibilities within the church; some have led to chaos. Clinton et al. (2005), states many churches are mired in a significant leadership crisis (p. 10). Pastors are called to lead people in spiritual growth, with the end goal of parishioners living a mature spiritual life for the sake of Christ, not the contrary. The enormity of pastoral leadership has a lasting effect. Kristin Tabb (2017) claims that relatively minor church hurts leave people with a burned-out feeling during service, while the more serious wounds leave parishioners soul-scarred and physically sick at …

Secondary Traumatic Stress In Emergency Department Nurses: A Comparative Study, Diana Elaine Flory Jul 2023

Secondary Traumatic Stress In Emergency Department Nurses: A Comparative Study, Diana Elaine Flory

This was accomplished through the use of the Secondary Traumatic Stress Scale (STSS), with the addition of seven demographic questions used at the end. The STSS was administered to 110 nurses in a suburban, level-II trauma center in northeast Indiana during January and February …

Not only did COVID-19 impact the physical health of those who contracted the virus, it also impacted the mental health of the general population. Mental health counselors held a dual role in this pandemic, facing the psychosocial impact themselves while simultaneously providing care for others. Recent studies explored the psychosocial impact on health care professionals and …

The Effect Of Different Natural Waxes To Hydrophobic Properties Of Starch-Based Biodegradable Foams, Ikbal Alexander, Ahyahudin Sodri, Kosuke Mizuno

Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development

Biodegradable foam has been vastly developed to replace polystyrene foam. However, its water absorption capacity has become a significant obstacle to being used in food packaging. Therefore, this study aims to assess the effect of incorporating natural waxes as a coating material in producing biodegradable foams. The four natural waxes are soy wax, candelilla wax, beeswax, and carnauba wax. The biodegradable foams were fabricated with cassava starch and rice straw as natural fiber sources using a thermal pressing machine. The Meyer-Rod coating method was adopted to produce high contact angle and highwater resistance starch-based biodegradable foams. Water absorption analysis was …

Addressing The Debate On The Eco-Friendliness Of Indonesian Batik By Water Footprint Approach, Widhi Handayani, Yohanes Budi Widianarko, Alberta Rika Pratiwi

Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development

The Indonesian batik is an intangible cultural heritage that contributes to the country's economy but raises environmental pollution. Synthetic dyes are considered to cause pollution, and the natural counterpart is recommended to replace it because natural dyes are considered more eco-friendly than synthetic ones. Therefore, this study examined the Blue Water Footprint (BWF) and Grey Water Footprint (GWF) of the batik household industry by applying synthetic dyeing and comparing the result to the natural dyeing from previous studies. This research used the Water Footprint accounting approach based on the Water Footprint Network, which involves identifying the batik process followed by …

Seaweed As Bioadsorbent For Nitrogen And Phosphorus Removal, Hanny Meirinawati, A’An Johan Wahyudi

Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development

Eutrophication has become a serious environmental problem because of the excessive amounts of nitrogen and phosphorus in the water. Aquaculture waste is one of the drivers of eutrophication. Seaweed is known for its ability to remove nutrients from the water. In Indonesia, research about the efficiency of seaweed in decreasing nutrient concentration in wastewater is still rare. This article reviewed the use of seaweed as an adsorbent for nitrogen and phosphorus removal. This review aims to summarize the efficiency of nutrient removal in various genera of macroalgae. The comparing bioremediation potentials of macroalgae, including growth, nutrient bioaccumulation capacity, and potential …

Factor Analysis And Reliability Of The Pro-Lockdown Compliance Scale, Lijo Kochakadan Joy, Manu Ramachandran, Jessy Fenn, Chee-Seng Tan

Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia

A multilevel lockdown was introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide. This new experience, however, received mixed responses from the public in different countries including India. A quantitative self-report, the Pro-Lockdown Compliance Scale (Pro-LCS), was developed to help 1) the Government and enforcing agents understand the compliance level of the public and 2) researchers investigate the antecedent factors of the compliance of the lockdown measures. The initial 10 items were administered to 309 male residents in Kerala via an online survey. The responses were randomly divided and submitted to exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. Both analyses consistently support that the scale …

Leader Humility And Employee Accountability: Psychological Safety As Mediator And Formalization As Moderator, Deri Natria, Eikla Luwlu Yasmina, Corina Riantoputra

Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia

Employee accountability is significant for every organization. Even though leaders are regarded as essential to increasing employee accountability, the mechanism by which leaders influence employee accountability has not yet been researched comprehensively. Employing the social information processing theory, this study argues that leader humility influences employee accountability through psychological safety, and moderated by formalization. Data collection was carried out by convenience sampling using the time-lagged data collection method from 279 employees in a state-owned company in Indonesia. Accountability, leader humility, psychological safety, and formalization scales were used to measure the variables in this study. This model predicted 38% of the variance …

Editorial Note: A Long-Term Endeavor Of Citations In The Global South Open Access Journals, Laras Sekarasih, Edo S. Jaya, Muhammad Abdan Shadiqi

Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia

Citations have become a “currency” of research quality. If the number of papers published is a parameter of scholars’ productivity, the number of citations received by each paper serves as an indicator of the quality of the research. The number of citations is often used to assess the quality of an article. In this bibliometric measure, papers that attract citations are considered to have a meaningful contribution. A high number of citations, especially when they come immediately after the papers are published, indicates that the paper is well accepted by scholars in the field and contributes to the advancement of …
