Moving On: An Overview Of Approaching Trauma Through Dance/Movement Therapy, Eliza Barber

Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT), an approach meant to facilitate holistic integration, has been historically associated with treating symptoms of trauma. Because it is a relatively new field, many questions still remain regarding appropriate interventions. In this extensive review of existing literature on the topic, I explored how DMT is applied in relation to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, culture-specific trauma and oppression, multigenerational trauma, and developmental trauma. Additionally, I delved into interventions with specific populations including refugees and young people. To identify the 26 items of literature referenced in this review, I conducted searches with appropriate terms on two scientific databases and filtered …

This talk discusses the deaccession project at the University of Central Florida Libraries from the perspective of Technical Service. It first provided the project background and scope, preparation for deaccession, and different workflows tested for the project. It then focuses on a mixed approach with manual and batch withdrawals to meet the library’s needs. It also addresses considerations in adopting a workflow for a collection or a set. Finally, it discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the batch withdraw workflow and the next steps that can be taken.

Welsh football, through its use of material culture, language, and acknowledgements of history, has become a major force in representing Welsh national identities locally and globally. This thesis expands on Benedict Anderson’s idea of the “imagined community” through contemporary research from academic sources and from voices throughout the Welsh footballing community. It highlights the significance of the sport in national identity, especially within smaller nations such as Wales with histories of post-colonialism. Along with this, football shows the role cultural nationalism plays in the nation of Wales and in its independence movements.

Recent changes in cannabis legalization will have broad societal impacts for decades to come, not the least of which are the unknown consequences to neuropsychiatric health, particularly for adolescents and young adults. Cannabis-induced psychotic disorder (CIPD) is a controversial and poorly understood neuropsychiatric condition characterized by a psychotic experience brought on by excessive cannabis intoxication and/or withdrawal. Although CIPD is currently an uncommon diagnosis, the overlapping symptomology and comorbidity with schizophrenia indicates CIPD may be underdiagnosed. With less experience in the world outside of sports as compared to their non-athlete peers, student-athletes are often left to find careers in other fields where they may be unprepared after college.This trend disproportionately affects Black male college-athletes, who make up a majority of the student-athletes on revenue sports teams, like basketball and football, which generate billions of dollars for academic institutions.

The 2023 Gaza war brought new focus to the special relationship between the United States and Israel. While the scale of direct support for the Israeli military is well-known, there has been less attention on less direct ties, such as those between U.S. nonprofits and settlement organizations, or the use of generous gift travel as a form of lobbying. The purpose of this research is to investigate high school age students’ opportunities within formal classroom settings to engage in care, civic learning, and creativity within a suburban, publicly-funded charter school. This study used thematic analysis and coding methods to organize and find patterns in the qualitative data from surveys distributed to education professionals at Canton Preparatory High School in Canton, Michigan. The goal is to establish a foundation of the perception of care, civic learning, and creativity within school environments and classroom settings. Overall, education professionals rated these categories positively, but with a closer investigation, a disconnect is found. …

Last year, 12 inmates died in custody at the Pima County Jail in Tucson, Arizona. With a 10-year average jail population of 1,827, that is a per capita rate of 656.8 deaths per 100,000 inmates.

According to the most recent data from the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the 2019 national local jail mortality rate was 167 deaths for every 100,000 inmates, making the Pima County Jail’s 2022 per capita death rate nearly four times as high as the national average in 2019.
