This article is based on an analysis of the first season of the Danish series Herrens Veje (The Way of the Lord; Price 2017). The series portrays the young, idealistic pastor and military chaplain August, who is deployed to a conflict zone with a military unit. He accompanies the unit on a patrol to win the trust of the soldiers. During the patrol, they engage in combat and August kills an innocent civilian woman. Upon return, the transition from military to civilian life proves to be increasingly challenging and troublesome. As the series proceeds, August’s mental health deteriorates and his …

Factors Affecting Knowledge Sharing Behavior Among Undergraduate Students: A Case Study Of Khushal Khan Khattak University Karak, Saeed Ullah Jan

The main theme of the study was to examine the factors that influence knowledge sharing among undergraduate students in Khushal Khan Khattak University Karak. Survey design guided the study and a questionnaire was used to collect data from 201 respondents. Data was analyzed using simple arithmetics. Findings showed that the organizational culture for knowledge sharing was found to be unsatisfactory, particularly regarding the exchange of awards or honors for sharing knowledge. However, incentives and management support were identified as motivating factors for knowledge sharing. A tricritical point as a crossover between (stationary finite-wavelength) type-I_s and (stationary longwave) type-II_s bifurcations is identified in the study of diffusive-thermal (Turing) instability of flames propagating in a Hele-Shaw channel in a direction transverse to a shear flow. Three regimes exhibiting different scaling laws are identified in the neighbourhood of the tricritical point. For these three regimes, sixth-order partial differential equations are obtained governing the weakly nonlinear evolution of unstable solutions near the onset of instability. These sixth-order PDES may be regarded as the substitute for the classical fourth-order Kuramoto­­­­­­–­­Sivashinsky equation which is not applicable near the …

The Physical Disability group collected social media data at the intersection of physical disability and sexuality as part of the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) Human Sexuality Summer Research Fellowship. For the purpose of this work, physical disability is defined as a self-disclosed disability which can include: impairments of the neuromusculoskeletal systems including, for example, the effects of paraplegia, quadriplegia, muscular dystrophy, neuromuscular disorders, cerebral palsy, absence or deformities of limbs, , arthritis, back disorders, bone formation or degeneration, and so on. Summer Sexuality Fellowship

The purpose of this data set is to investigate the experiences of parents, children, biological and non-biological family members when families are constructed in non-traditional ways. We address families constructed with known donors, in polyamourous and platonic family formations, families with step parents, and through adoption. Social Media posts between 2018 and 2023 were systematically collected from Reddit, Tiktok, Youtube, and Twitter. Data were collected by a team of collaborative researchers focusing on three topical areas: Donor conception, Adoption, and Mutli-Parent Families.

Abstract

During a ten-week Human Sexuality fellowship program, one of the focal areas was sex work, undertaken by an interdisciplinary team of graduate students and faculty. Employing an emergent design approach, this team used multiple iterations to refine their data collection process. Initially comprised of sixteen fellows, the Sex Work team sought to compile a comprehensive dataset encompassing various aspects of sex work, as broadly defined, across four social media platforms: Reddit, TikTok, Twitter (aka "X"), and YouTube. The Sex Work Databank eventually amassed nearly 6,000 data entries, with YouTube yielding the largest share.

The connection between public administration and nonprofit administration has been in existence since ancient times, when individual volunteers (the predecessors of a formal nonprofit sector) met humanitarian needs to which the government was unwilling or unable to attend. Addams (1910) formalized this intersecting relationship during her time working in Chicago’s slums with refugees. Pandey & Johnsons (2019) drew connections between public administration, public policy, and nonprofit management. They concluded that discoveries in one of those domains should necessarily be applied to the others. They advised that continued research should draw explicit connections across those sectors and highlighted examples of the …

Suicidal behaviors and constructs are putting at risk the accomplishment of Objective 3 of Agenda 2030 for sustainable development in Spanish-speaking countries. The current study’s principal objective is to explain the presence of suicidal ideation and deaths by suicide as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in Spanish-speaking countries based on a review of the scientific literature. Medical physicians at all points of their careers, including as medical students, interns, residents, and independent physicians, are more likely than their non-physician peers to experience depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, substance abuse, and other mental health issues. A variety of occupation-specific factors could contribute to these issues with no root cause known, and the efficacy of mental health care interventions for this group also remains ambiguous. No News Is Bad News: Local News Intensity And Firms' Information Environments, Kristian D. Allee, Ryan Cating, Caleb Rawson

We examine the effects of local newspapers on firms’ information environments. With newspaper employment dropping precipitously in the last few decades, we posit that these changes will harm local firms’ information environments. Consistent with local news improving information environments, we find that volatility, spreads, and illiquidity increase as local newspaper intensity declines and that this is associated with firms’ importance in their local economy. We further find that for firms that are more important in their community, or have busy analysts, less local newspaper intensity is associated with significantly lower analyst accuracy and higher forecast dispersion. My project was based around starting a blog summarizing and sharing my own experiences with autoimmune diseases. I was diagnosed with my first autoimmune disease when I was eight and it drastically impacted the way I grew up and have subsequently lived my life. I wanted to create a platform that both shared these experiences as well as shared information and resources to other people who might be struggling through something similar. I also paired it with another capstone project that involved organizing a local meetup support group for individuals.

This article introduces the eigensystem autoregression (EAR) framework, which allows an AR model to be specified, estimated, and applied directly in terms of its eigenvalues and eigenvectors. An EAR estimation can therefore impose various constraints on AR dynamics that would not be possible within standard linear estimation. Examples are restricting eigenvalue magnitudes to control the rate of mean reversion, additionally imposing that eigenvalues be real and positive to avoid pronounced oscillatory behavior, and eliminating the possibility of explosive episodes in a time-varying AR.
