The Yeti Tumbler Alliance, Emily Huber Jul 2022

The Yeti Tumbler Alliance, Emily Huber

IPS/BAS 495 Undergraduate Capstone Projects

For my Capstone Project I chose a topic that I am passionate about. I truly believe that outdoor recreation is critical to mental health. My family is passionate about rock climbing. I have found that many people find this sport to be inaccessible. Most climbing areas have very difficult climbs or very easy climbs for beginners. My goal was to develop and bolt a climb that is easy for beginners but next to harder climbs so people could take their friends and introduce them to the sport in an environment where everyone can have fun.

I am very happy with …

Predictors Of Engagement In Nursing Professional Practice: Transforming Organizational Culture In The Post-Covid Healthcare Environment, Jennifer Garnand Jul 2022

Predictors Of Engagement In Nursing Professional Practice: Transforming Organizational Culture In The Post-Covid Healthcare Environment, Jennifer Garnand

Dissertations

Cultivating the shared belief that individuals matter within an organization enhances the empowerment of staff and supports enthusiastic engagement in organizational efforts aimed toward a common mission, vision, and goals (McShane & Von Glinow, 2019). The nursing profession has been plagued by an unprecedented decrease in engagement and diminished job satisfaction, particularly following the prolonged tenure of the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to subsequent attrition amidst a staffing crisis. This quantitative predictive correlational study seeks to determine whether proactive and persevering characteristics, professional identity, and passion of nurses are predictors of engagement in a post-COVID healthcare environment. The research was based …

Is Religion Dividing America Beyond Repair?, Alec Wheeler Jul 2022

Is Religion Dividing America Beyond Repair?, Alec Wheeler

IPS/BAS 495 Undergraduate Capstone Projects

In 2022, the state of America is highly debated. Are we united? Are we divided? What unites us despite our differences? There have been times of great tribulation in American history, just as there have been times of great unity. Many Americans remember the day after the 9/11 attacks as a day to set our differences aside and help one another. At the beginning of the COVID-19 nationwide lock down there was celebration of healthcare workers and campaigns to help your neighbors out with groceries. During times of tremendous worry and pain, Americans come together through their differences and work …

Ptrc Customer Assessment Survey And Best Practices, John Schlipp, Christian Sheehy Jul 2022

Ptrc Customer Assessment Survey And Best Practices, John Schlipp, Christian Sheehy

Journal of the Patent and Trademark Resource Center Association

Assessment of customer activities in academic, public, and special libraries demonstrates their impact and value to library administrators and constituents. In turn, this assists in securing and maintaining advocacy and financial support. Although many formal and informal assessment best practices have evolved to measure the quantitative and qualitative impact of information literacy instruction, few if any best practices have been established to measure impact specific to Patent & Trademark Resource Center (PTRC) customers. This article reviews the results of a survey of PTRC Libraries and their customer assessment practices. Such analysis reveals best practices for other PTRCs to build upon …

Longitudinal Associations Of Perceived Mastery And Constraints With Coping And Their Implications For Functional Health For Aging Adults, Masahiro Toyama, Joel M. Hektner Jul 2022

Longitudinal Associations Of Perceived Mastery And Constraints With Coping And Their Implications For Functional Health For Aging Adults, Masahiro Toyama, Joel M. Hektner

Psychology Faculty Research

The present study examined longitudinal associations of distinct dimensions of perceived control (i.e., perceived mastery and constraints) with approach and avoidance coping relating to functional health for aging adults, which had not been well studied previously. Using data from two waves of Midlife in the United States (N = 4,963, whose mean age was 55.4 [SD = 12.5]), a longitudinal path model was analyzed for direct and indirect effects among perceived mastery and constraints, approach and avoidance coping, and functional limitations. Bidirectional associations were observed between perceived mastery and approach coping and between perceived constraints and avoidance coping. …

How The Covid-19 Pandemic Has Affected The Mental Health Of Healthcare Workers, Jessica M. Farner Jul 2022

How The Covid-19 Pandemic Has Affected The Mental Health Of Healthcare Workers, Jessica M. Farner

IPS/BAS 495 Undergraduate Capstone Projects

In recent years, healthcare has changed drastically. The outlook healthcare workers have on the environment and the attitudes they carry in their day to day life have been severely affected due to many different reasons, the most recent COVID-19 pandemic being a catalyst. In this paper, I hope to explore and dive more in depth on why this has happened, what can be changed, and the toll it has taken on these front line workers using research found and conducted myself. I located many articles and research studies that discuss the psychological toll the COVID-19 pandemic has taken on healthcare …

Electrical Safety Program Loto Procedures, Justin D. Rose Jul 2022

Electrical Safety Program Loto Procedures, Justin D. Rose

IPS/BAS 495 Undergraduate Capstone Projects

For my project I am going to help create and implement new LOTO procedures for our substation. This will be part of a much larger project. The larger project will be implementing an Electrical Safety Program. Part of that program is creating lock out procedures. This project will help solve a gap in an established safety program. Either we continue as we have been and leave ourselves vulnerable to safety and reliability issues or we create an established safety program that will bring us more in-line with current industry standards. Through this project we will create procedures for safely isolating …

Water, Sunshine And Safety: Community Service At Its Best, Kimberly A. Hammond

IPS/BAS 495 Undergraduate Capstone Projects

To complete this capstone project, I engaged my personally owned and operated water sports recreation business in a community service event geared towards water safety education. In this project, community members were offered to sign up and/or participate in a day-long event that included a professional fitting for a personal floatation device (PFD), a water recreation safety seminar and a guided kayaking shoreline tour of Lake Walcott State Park and National Wildlife Preserve. The event, sponsored by Adrift Kayak Adventures LLC, was completely free to the public and centered around the ideals of community service, safety, and outdoor recreation …

The Leadership Tree: Growing Leadership Through Quality Conversations, Jayke Sterling Jul 2022

The Leadership Tree: Growing Leadership Through Quality Conversations, Jayke Sterling

IPS/BAS 495 Undergraduate Capstone Projects

As the issue of trying to coach all the staff at the same time became too overwhelming for the management team at Biolife, a solution was born. After many brainstorming ideas the final decision was made to create a leadership tree to divide the work amongst the management team while keeping a consistent vision. The final product turned out to be beneficial to both parties and increased the frequency and quality of coaching.

Nash Bargaining In A General Equilibrium Framework: The Case Of A Shared Surface Water Supply, Arpita Nehra, Arthur J. Caplan Jul 2022

Nash Bargaining In A General Equilibrium Framework: The Case Of A Shared Surface Water Supply, Arpita Nehra, Arthur J. Caplan

Applied Economics Faculty Publications

We extend the axiomatic Nash bargaining approach to the context of interregional water sharing in order to assess the approach’s normative implications in a general equilibrium (GE) framework. The GE model is applied to a water development project proposed for the Wasatch Front and Cache Valley regions of Utah — the Bear River Development Project (BRDP). We demonstrate conceptually how an allocation rule and attendant net regional welfare measures are endogenously determined as equilibrium solutions to the bargaining problem. Numerical analysis, based upon a simulation model calibrated to current data, reveals that Nash bargaining is generally infeasible as a solution …

Reconfiguring Social Relations Through Time In A Financialised Economy And A Rise Of Nationalism, Micky Lee Jul 2022

Reconfiguring Social Relations Through Time In A Financialised Economy And A Rise Of Nationalism, Micky Lee

College of Arts & Sciences Faculty Works

A decade after the 2008-9 global financial crisis, the world witnessed two grave dangers: one is the COVID pandemic; the other is the rise of nationalism in a number of countries. The global financial crisis had revealed how connected the global economy is and how it had disproportionately affected the underclass. The pandemic has once again illustrated both phenomena. To react against globalized forces, some embrace a nationalist ideology that harbours xenophobia and racism. (Most notably are anti-Asian sentiments in white-dominated nations and East Asian countries' stringent border control during the pandemic.) How can feminist political economists understand these multiple …

Electrical Equipment Industry Cluster, Pragati Gautam Jul 2022

Electrical Equipment Industry Cluster, Pragati Gautam

2022 REYES Proceedings

The growing collaboration between two or more industries in a specific region in which they work in a symbiotic relationship, providing benefits to each other and contributing in the overall development of the region, is what is popularly known as business clusters. Even though this concept is commonly known and implemented in the West, South Asian economies are unfamiliar with the advantages of this unique business strategy. There are, undeniably, many potential business clusters in these developing countries, which if tapped efficiently, could result into an industrial boom.

This research focuses on investigating the existence of a business cluster in …

The Shakedown Of Warm-Ups: An Assessment Of Pre-Speech Exercises' Impact On Public Speaking Anxiety, Joshua Westwick, Kelli J. Chromey, Karla Hunter, Andrea Carlile Jul 2022

The Shakedown Of Warm-Ups: An Assessment Of Pre-Speech Exercises' Impact On Public Speaking Anxiety, Joshua Westwick, Kelli J. Chromey, Karla Hunter, Andrea Carlile

Communication Studies Publications

Academics have suggested that the use of warm-up exercises like those used by forensics competitors before a competition may reduce students’ public speaking anxiety (PSA). However, little empirical work has assessed these anecdotal claims. Thus, to assess the impact of using warm-up exercises in the foundational course, we developed and tested a uniform warm-up protocol for students enrolled in our standardized, multi-section public speaking course. This study sought to discover whether students who engaged in physical and vocal function exercises prior to speech delivery would have lower speaking anxiety over the course of the semester than students in the control …

It discusses Puerto Rico’s historical population losses between 2010 and 2020 as well as the major racial identification shifts occurring in the island between 2000 and 2020. It will examine the significant racial identification shift from “One Race” to “Two Races” as well as the notable racial identification shift from “whiteness” to “some other race”.

Influence Of Gdp Per Capita On Birth Rates, Derek Richard Koppes Jul 2022

Influence Of Gdp Per Capita On Birth Rates, Derek Richard Koppes

Proceedings of the Jepson Undergraduate Conference on International Economics

his paper aims to explore the relationship between a country’s birth rate and GDP per capita. I use cross-sectional data for 108 countries from the CIA’s World Factbook and The World Bank. From the research, it is clear that countries with lower infant mortality rates and higher levels of female education have lower birth rates, but the impact of GDP per capita remains ambiguous. It appears the relationship between GDP per capita and birth rates may be mediated through factors such as female empowerment, better healthcare, contraception availability, and family planning resources.

How To Not Save The World From Covid-19: The Dire Consequences Of Giving Away The Vaccine Formula, Tristen Prouse Jul 2022

How To Not Save The World From Covid-19: The Dire Consequences Of Giving Away The Vaccine Formula, Tristen Prouse

Proceedings of the Jepson Undergraduate Conference on International Economics

The debate over giving away the COVID-19 vaccine formula is a political hot topic. Violating intellectual property law (patents) to give away the vaccine is a tempting option for aiding other countries in the current global health crisis. In actuality, many problems exist with this proposed solution, including violating intellectual property law, disincentivizing innovation, undermining confidence in vaccine safety, harming America’s geopolitical objectives, and inefficiencies. The United States can and should aid the world in obtaining vaccines, but it should not do so by waiving patent law and giving away the vaccine formulas.

Sexual Activity Between Victims And Perpetrators Following A Sexual Assault: A Systematic Literature Review And Critical Feminist Analysis, Katie M. Edwards, Christina M. Dardis Jul 2022

Sexual Activity Between Victims And Perpetrators Following A Sexual Assault: A Systematic Literature Review And Critical Feminist Analysis, Katie M. Edwards, Christina M. Dardis

Nebraska Center for Research on Children, Youth, Families, and Schools: Faculty Publications

Rarely are perpetrators found guilty of sexual assault when the victim engaged in sex with the perpetrator following the sexual assault. Although the recent trial of Harvey Weinstein is an exception, the fact that his accusers engaged in consensual sex with him following the alleged assaults ignited debate that garnered international attention. The purpose of this paper was to conduct a systematic review to (1) document the extent to which victims engage in sex with the perpetrator following a sexual assault and (2) examine theoretical explanations for this phenomenon. Five peer-reviewed journal articles published between 1988 and 2016 were identified. …

Defining The Police Mission, Devin Neal Jul 2022

Defining The Police Mission, Devin Neal

Criminology Student Work

Directives and duties of law enforcement have changed drastically over time. Today there is little agreement within society regarding what is needed and wanted from police. Even within the police ranks, it is unclear whether there is a single view of what “good” police work is (and if so, what that looks like). An officer may learn what “good” policing is from numerous channels including departmental missions, informal cultures, personal characteristics, and community contexts. Officers’ opinions may also derive from personal beliefs about policing, personality traits, and/or attitudes toward police work. The purpose of this study is to determine what …

The Power Of 20-Minute Naps To Zen Time, Lee Rockwell Jul 2022

The Power Of 20-Minute Naps To Zen Time, Lee Rockwell

IPS/BAS 495 Undergraduate Capstone Projects

Naps are not just for National Nap Day on March 13th (SHRM, 2019) and naps aren’t only for toddlers. Approximately 1 in 3 American adults nap, according to previous Pew Research Center data (Everyday Health, 2022). Research has shown that the workplace needs to offer separate time for their employees to take a 20-minute power nap or Zen time. Zen time can be defined as relaxed or feeling peaceful (Zen Definitions, 2022). ‌Some people would consider napping to be lazy. However, it is the opposite. A survey by Mattress Nerd of 2,000 adults showed nappers considered themselves more productive …
