Intimations Of A Spiritual New Age: Iv. Carl Jung's Archetypal Imagination As Futural Planetary Neo-Shamanism, Harry T. Hunt Sep 2020

Intimations Of A Spiritual New Age: Iv. Carl Jung's Archetypal Imagination As Futural Planetary Neo-Shamanism, Harry T. Hunt

International Journal of Transpersonal Studies

This series of papers on early anticipations of a spiritual New Age ends with Carl Jung’s version of a futural planetary-wide unus mundus rejoining person and cosmos, based on his psychoid linkage of quantum physics and consciousness, and especially on the neo-shamanic worldview emerging out of his spirit guided initiation in the more recently published Red Book. A cognitive-psychological re-evaluation of Jung’s archetypal imagination, the metaphoricity of his alchemical writings, and a comparison of Jung and Levi-Strauss on mythological thinking all support a contemporary view of Jung’s active imagination and mythic amplification as a spiritual intelligence based on a formal …

A Fractal Epistemology For Transpersonal Psychology, Terry Marks-Tarlow Sep 2020

A Fractal Epistemology For Transpersonal Psychology, Terry Marks-Tarlow

International Journal of Transpersonal Studies

The role of science has been controversial within the nascent field of transpersonal psychology. Traditional linear and reductionist models are insufficient to address rare and unreproducible states of mind, fringe rather than normative experiences, and highly personal or culturally specific aspects of awareness. Through a fractal epistemology this paper introduces novel metaphors, models, and methods within a more holistic, organic, and synthetic branch of science. Principles of the epistemology illuminate observer dependence, fuzzy boundaries, recursive patterns, and higher dimensional phenomena that emerge within the infinite expanses between ordinary, finite (Euclidean) dimensions.

Further. those who are lonely and isolated are more likely to participate in risky behavior such as substance abuse. Leading practices for treating isolation among adolescents (or its causes …

Domestic Violence Against Women In The United States, Kaitlyn Short Sep 2020

Domestic Violence Against Women In The United States, Kaitlyn Short

Ballard Brief

Domestic violence is a form of abuse by one individual against another in an intimate relationship. Historically, women have suffered the greatest effects of domestic violence with almost a quarter of US women experiencing domestic violence in their lifetime. Domestic violence is a social issue fueled by generational learning, isolated victims, unorganized healthcare aid, and family stresses. Women found in domestic violence situations experience moderate to severe mental and physical health concerns. Bystander children also face negative consequences such as internalizing and externalizing behaviors. Society at large suffers increased economic burden as it strives to provide aid and support for …

Indian Classical Dance And The Development Of Cultural Identity In The Indian Diaspora, Madhavi Menon Sep 2020

Indian Classical Dance And The Development Of Cultural Identity In The Indian Diaspora, Madhavi Menon

Faculty Articles

Cultural identity can be broadly defined as a person’s self-view vis a vis their identity or perception of belonging to a larger group or collective. Cultural identity is hence focal to a person's identity and influences how they see themselves, as well as how they relate to the world. The development of cultural identity can be especially challenging for members of the Indian diaspora, who often traverse multiple cultures simultaneously. The current paper reviews dance ethnographic as well as experiential research to explore the links between engagement with Indian classical dance and the development of cultural identity in the Indian …

Managing User Needs And Librarian Expectations: Results Of A Survey Of User Behaviors In Summon, Kristin Rogers Sep 2020

Managing User Needs And Librarian Expectations: Results Of A Survey Of User Behaviors In Summon, Kristin Rogers

The Southeastern Librarian

Since 2016, the University of Mississippi Libraries has used ExLibris’ Summon for their discovery service, locally known as One Search. During the implementation, customizations for the search results page were determined by a committee of librarians. As new settings and customizations were implemented over the years, librarians began to question if certain settings were appropriate or if the patrons were actually using them. An IRB approved survey was distributed asking library patrons about their use of One Search while library employees were asked to answer how they perceived patrons used it. Results showed the differences between library employee perception of …

Review Of New Technologies And Methodologies For Eore In Challenging Contexts, Gichd

Global CWD Repository

This review examines promising new technologies and methodologies used for the delivery and monitoring of risk education interventions in response to three key challenges: risk education for improvised explosive devices, in urban complex environments, and in areas with limited to no accessibility. It highlights examples, good practices and emerging solutions in facing these challenges, both from within and outside the EORE sector, and builds on recent initiatives developed to adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic. The publication was made possible thanks to the financial support of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Government of Switzerland.

Racial Justice And The Image Of Public Health, Marilyn Fischer Sep 2020

Racial Justice And The Image Of Public Health, Marilyn Fischer

Philosophy Faculty Publications

The City Commission in my hometown of Dayton, Ohio recently adopted a resolution declaring racism a public health crisis. In doing so, Dayton joins municipalities around the country, as the global pandemic of coronavirus COVID19 swirls around us. The Commission gave compelling reasons for their action, citing the disparate rates of poor health outcomes in African American communities, as well as disproportionately high rates of poverty, unemployment, economic distress, homelessness, incarceration, and inadequate education.1 The Commission’s commitment to remedy these inequities is welcome. Others have laid out this evidence in much detail; I want to focus here on public health …

The New Yorker Rejects Itself: A Quasi-Scientific Analysis Of Slush Piles, David Cameron Sep 2020

The New Yorker Rejects Itself: A Quasi-Scientific Analysis Of Slush Piles, David Cameron

The Review Review

It began as the kind of logical argument that seems airtight to anyone who has never studied logic. If the New Yorker is the most desirable literary magazine in the world, and if the New Yorker can have any short story the New Yorker wants, then whatever story the New Yorker gets would—logically—be so intrinsically desirable that all lesser literary pubs (e.g., everyone) would pine for it. Just like the prettiest girl at the dance: the guy she picks is the guy chicks dig. Basic deduction 101.

The Submitter's Dilemma: Choosing The Right Literary Magazine For Your Work, Becky Tuch Sep 2020

The Submitter's Dilemma: Choosing The Right Literary Magazine For Your Work, Becky Tuch

The Review Review

There are over 600 print and online literary magazines today, not to mention dozens of new journals starting up all the time. If you are new to submitting your work, the sheer quantity of literary magazines can be quite terrifying. How do you even begin to sort through the wealth of offerings? How do you know a prestigious journal from a less established one? How do you find the journals that feature the sort of work you like to write? What are your odds of being accepted in one journal over another? Do literary agents read literary magazines, and if …

"Stories Can Offer A Reader A Very Good Time": A Chat With April Gray Wilder, Editor Of Flock, April Gray Wilder, Noah Friedman

The Review Review

Flock was founded by author, musician, artist, and UNF faculty member Mark Ari, and UNF students in 2002. The journal seeks to publish all varieties of fiction (traditional, experimental, and everything in between) and is based on the premise of literature as an addictive experience. Since its inception, the journal has been a part of a growing literary community in North East Florida and has attracted authors from across the United States and world. Flock is used in UNF literature courses, has showcased author readings, and has hosted its own workshops. Current editor April Gray Wilder was kind enough to …

The Seven Habits Of Successful Writers, Leslie Greffenius Sep 2020

The Seven Habits Of Successful Writers, Leslie Greffenius

The Review Review

One of the thrilling but daunting tasks of becoming a better writer is that you have to design your own curriculum. Sure, you can participate in helpful writing workshops taught by admired authors or read various experts' books on craft, but you still have to choose for yourself which courses to take and what books to read. Even if you attend an MFA program, you have to decide what to write and how, whether or not to outline, how to undertake revisions, when and where to submit your work and so on. In many ways, writers are their own teachers, …
