Reclamation: Returning To Matrilineal Traditions, Building A New Generation Of Indigenous Girl Societies, Kelly Hallman, Stephanie Martinez, Lisa Polen, Angel Del Valle
Poverty, Gender, and Youth
Created in 2017, the Indigenous Adolescent Girls’ Empowerment Network (IMAGEN) brings together organizations from rural and urban indigenous communities in the United States to strengthen the protection, safety, and resilience of girls by reclaiming neighborhood spaces and building local female-relative-led mentorship programs. IMAGEN, headquartered at the Girl Innovation, Research, and Learning (GIRL) Center in New York City, promotes the use of data-driven approaches in building assets for these adolescent girls. This report highlights the results of the IMAGEN Program Planning Workshop held in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, December 3–5, 2019. The workshop stressed an urgent need for culturally grounded programming …
Social Inequality And Type 2 Diabetes Management Among Older Latinx Immigrants, Jasmin Tahmaseb-Mcconatha, Frauke Schnell
Social Inequality And Type 2 Diabetes Management Among Older Latinx Immigrants, Jasmin Tahmaseb-Mcconatha, Frauke Schnell
Psychology Faculty Publications
Being an immigrant in the contemporary U.S. is stressful. During the pandemic of 2020, these stressors are amplified for all populations. At the same time, Latinx immigrants are also disproportionately affected by the pandemic. They are more vulnerable, face greater economic challenges, and are more likely to die from the virus. In addition to these difficult realities, regardless of status, Latinx immigrants are often perceived as illegal and subjected to discriminatory treatment [1]. Type 2 diabetes is also an illness that disproportionately affects minorities and immigrant populations. In 2018, there were almost 60 million Latinos-18% of the U.S. population (more …
Technology Transfer In Spatial Competition When Licensees Are Asymmetric, Sougata Poddar, Swapnendu Banerjee, Monalisa Ghosh
Technology Transfer In Spatial Competition When Licensees Are Asymmetric, Sougata Poddar, Swapnendu Banerjee, Monalisa Ghosh
Economics Faculty Articles and Research
We study technology transfer in a spatial competition with two asymmetric licensees (firms) with an outside innovator who decides how many licenses to offer and the optimal licensing contract. We show the optimal licensing policy is pure royalty contract to both licensees leading to a complete diffusion of the new technology. The result holds irrespective of the cost differentials between the licensees and for innovation of all sizes, that is, drastic or non‐drastic. This robust finding although supports the dominance of royalty licensing in practice; however, consumers may not be necessarily better off. We also throw light on the situation …
Winning In Weight-Loss: The Interaction Of Conscientiousness And Perceived Autonomy, Jason M. Curtis, Marc Lochbaum
Winning In Weight-Loss: The Interaction Of Conscientiousness And Perceived Autonomy, Jason M. Curtis, Marc Lochbaum
Journal for Sports Neuroscience
ABSTRACT
Background
Understanding determinants for weight-loss is a national priority. Obesity is an epidemic with serious health consequences. Most of today’s obesity and overweight problems are being attributed to poor diets and not enough physical activity. These problems show no signs of slowing down with the behaviors of most Americans. The phenomenon of “The Biggest Loser” (different variants of weight-loss programs that consist of group exercise participation and nutrition therapy to elicit weight-loss, and hopefully behavior change) has spawned many variants in commercial health clubs. This prospectus study examined the direct and interactive or moderated effects of known determinants of …

Reproductive Health
Implementers of sexual and gender-based violence programs in refugee settings are typically eager to learn about the extent to which their programs are making a difference in the lives of those they serve. Basic monitoring information can help address this imperative without unduly burdening program implementers with time-consuming evaluations. The Sauti/VOICE project is guiding adaptation and implementation of evidence-based SGBV interventions in refugee contexts. These interventions are implemented by UNHCR partners in eight countries in the East, Horn, and Great Lakes region of Africa. Although Sauti/VOICE is primarily focused on integrating tested SGBV interventions into refugee contexts, monitoring the implementation …

Reproductive Health
Health care providers collect an array of documentation and specimens to support criminal investigations. Such documentation and specimens are referred to as “medico-legal” or “forensic” evidence, and in the case of rape, include a survivor’s documented injuries and emotional state at the time of examination, as well as samples and specimens from the survivor’s body or clothing. For survivors of rape and defilement who want to obtain legal justice, medico-legal evidence is critical. In African countries, health providers and the police are depended upon to ensure such evidence is collected, but medico-legal evidence collection can present challenges. Evidence-based interventions are …

The Representation Of Masculinity In A Malaysian Televised Show, Uma Rani A Rethina Velu
Student Works (2020-2029)
This study examines the representation of masculinity in a Malaysian televised show, Oh My English! using a multimodal Critical Discourse Analysis from four perspectives. Firstly, this study analyses the verbal processes significant in the reflection of the Other among five main male social actors and with other character roles. Secondly, the non-verbal processes are simultaneously analysed via visual interpretation. Thirdly, these two processes overlap with the analysis of social actions in the performance of masculinity. Finally, how ideological assumptions reflect on masculinity are analysed via the two processes and social actions among the five main social actors along with the …

It is evident from literature that bibliometric analysis and application of citation indexes have been established as far back as the 18th century. It is a major tool employed to evaluate the performance and also measure the impact of scientific publications. This study presents a bibliometric analysis of the Master of Philosophy (MPhil) theses accepted at the Department of the Information Studies (DIS) of the University of Ghana for the period between 2000 to 2018. Through the use of the DIS library catalogue, the study retrieved 101 accepted theses and these theses served as the source documents for …
Global Cities And Socioeconomic Inequality: A Pathways Inquiry, Herman Boschken
Global Cities And Socioeconomic Inequality: A Pathways Inquiry, Herman Boschken
Faculty Publications, School of Management
Inequality in metropolitan areas is part of a paradoxical triangle of competing motives over resources allocation. Chief among inequality/equity rivals is the penchant for urban economic development, but in recent decades, ecological sustainability has also become increasingly important in this triangle. To understand inequality in global cities in such a context, one must recognize the intensity of economic development motives for those particular metropolitan areas seeking to maintain worldwide centrality, connectivity and command over the forces of globalization. As a comparative analysis of 53 large U.S. metropolitan areas, this paper examines the apparatus of a global city in response to …

Not Everyone Is Lovin' It: Work, Class And The Everyday In Al Sahel, Salam Ebeid
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis explores work in one of the “Big” fast food chains in Al Sahel. In this space I study how multinational ideologies/language are manifested within a local context through notions of control, discipline and power. Throughout the various thesis chapters, I try to understand how work functions with/through a specific social apparatus that is linked to work and class. How the relationships between workers unfold within this restaurant. Unpacking notion of Al Sahel Time Zone that studies different perceptions of time through Al Sahel's space. How work is felt on the body, perceived, tricked and understood by the workers …

Reflections On The Pedagogical Foundations In Counselor Education, Eric R. Baltrinic, Carrie Wachter Morris
Teaching and Supervision in Counseling
In this article, we provided a summary and concluding remarks to this special edition on signature pedagogies in counselor education. We summarized contributing authors’ perspectives and considerations for bolstering the profession’s discussion on teaching and pedagogical foundations. Focusing on how contributing authors assessed and used the concept of signature pedagogies to facilitate the broader discussion on pedagogical foundations, we posed reflections and offered considerations for future instructional research in counselor education.

Research Of Teaching In Counselor Education: A Collective Effort Of Improved Rigor, Elizabeth A. Prosek
Teaching and Supervision in Counseling
This special issue in Teaching and Supervision in Counseling offers several perspectives of teaching, pedagogy, and learning theory in counselor education. In this article, the author conceptualizes signature pedagogies: surface, deep, and implicit structures in terms of research questions. Methodological design considerations are discussed to broaden the scope and rigor of research on teaching in counseling. Finally, strategies for improving a favorable review of research manuscripts for publication are provided.

Signature Pedagogies: Doctoral-Level Teaching Preparation, Casey A. Barrio Minton
Teaching and Supervision in Counseling
In response to Baltrinic and Wachter Morris (2020), this article includes a history of teaching preparation in counselor education, exploration regarding current status of doctoral-level teaching preparation in counselor education, and review of literature regarding strategies for preparing doctoral students to teach. Supervision and mentorship emerged as key themes in this relatively new area of preparation. The author explores whether current practice is sufficient to identify these processes as signature pedagogies.
Supervision As The Signature Pedagogy For Counseling Leadership, Melissa Luke, Harvey C. Peters
Supervision As The Signature Pedagogy For Counseling Leadership, Melissa Luke, Harvey C. Peters
Teaching and Supervision in Counseling
The authors apply the signature pedagogies framework for pedagogical foundations in counselor education put forth by Baltrinic and Wachter Morris (In press) to counseling leadership. Accordingly, we first define counseling leadership and describe the limited literature focused on pedagogical practices related to counseling leadership. Next, we discuss supervision and use the notion of broad and specific features as discussed within Baltrinic and Wachter Morris (In press) to systematically examine whether there is a signature pedagogy for counseling leadership, and purport how supervision of counseling leadership largely fulfills the criteria. Finally, we discuss how supervision of counseling leadership can be utilized …

Response To Signature Pedagogies: A Framework For Pedagogical Foundations In Counselor Education: Through A Multicultural And Social Justice Competencies Lens, Catherine Y. Chang, Ashlei Rabess
Teaching and Supervision in Counseling
In response to Baltrinic and Wachter Morris’ challenge, the authors discuss whether the counseling profession has a signature pedagogy in the area of multicultural and social justice competencies. The authors examine broad and specific features of signature pedagogies at the professional, program, and course levels for multicultural and social justice competencies.

Signature Pedagogy And Beyond: Reflections On Baltrinic And Wachter Morris (2020, L. Dianne Borders Phd
Teaching and Supervision in Counseling
In a response to Baltrinic and Wachter Morris (2020), I expand on the term signature pedagogy and illustrate how clinical supervision satisfies the criteria for this designation in the counseling field. I then suggest an alternative term, “pedagogical foundations” (from Baltrinic and Wachter Morris), to ground work towards the authors’ goals of asking the ‘right questions’ about the ‘best things’ underlying counselor education practices and research. Finally, I outline some additional avenues (toward the same goals) via explorations of traditional learning theories and science of learning principles that emphasize student learning processes in the classroom - how students learn.
Signature Pedagogies: A Framework For Pedagogical Foundations In Counselor Education, Eric R. Baltrinic, Carrie Wachter Morris
Signature Pedagogies: A Framework For Pedagogical Foundations In Counselor Education, Eric R. Baltrinic, Carrie Wachter Morris
Teaching and Supervision in Counseling
The authors offer signature pedagogies, which refer to the particular types of teaching distinct to a particular profession, as a framework for conceptualizing and advancing our knowledge about the pedagogical foundations in counselor education. Signature pedagogies are further defined at the professional, program, and course levels along with examples to connect signature pedagogies to the discipline of counselor education. The authors offer refection questions to encourage readers to apply the content of this article to their own conceptualizations of pedagogy and conceptualize research designs grounded in a unified understanding of pedagogy. Implications for counselor education and future research are presented.

Universities librarians play vital and varied roles in the life of the university, guiding students and faculty at the reference desk, instructing library research sessions, and developing library collections. It is a truism to say that librarians in all sectors of an academic library wear many different hats and provide numerous services to patrons. This research paper seeks to investigate the role of university libraries in this outbreak situation. The novel virus COVID-19 discovered as a global pandemic. This contagious virus changed the working Style tradition to online because of the shutdown of all activities of life. The main objective …
