Native American Perspectives: From The Red Road In Recovery, James Pete
The International Journal of Ecopsychology (IJE)
CULTURE AND TRADITIONS are a major part of my Red Road in Recovery. I've been involved in Native Art (used to call it Arts and Crafts) from the time I was 8 years old and going on 55 years! I am still learning, in many aspects. But, when I am creating Native Art....there is this place of peacefulness, serenity, a connection to the Higher Power (Gichi Manidoo), those who traveled to the Spirit World, and many others. This is from an Anishinaabe (Chippewa or Ojibwa) aspect.

“Healthy Country, Healthy People”: Aboriginal Embodied Knowledge Systems In Human/Nature Interrelationships, Liz Cameron
The International Journal of Ecopsychology (IJE)
The relationships between humans and nature require interdisciplinary perspectives to develop expanded understandings at this crucial time for the planet and its inhabitants. A poignant step towards improving the global ecological situation--which includes human survival and flourishing--is to reconnect our human/nature relationships. From an Australian Aboriginal standpoint, human-nature connectedness is integrally embedded in the relationship to the natural world that is termed Country. This term not only illustrates geographical boundaries but encompasses the harmony and balance of all living things within a cultural and spiritual context. At the interface of this knowledge, ways of thinking, feeling and being …
Cold War Intimacy Beyond The Taiwan Strait : Sexual Labour And Chinese Modernities In The Teahouse, I-Ting Chen
Cold War Intimacy Beyond The Taiwan Strait : Sexual Labour And Chinese Modernities In The Teahouse, I-Ting Chen
Lingnan Theses (MPhil & PhD)
This research asks who the mainland Chinese hostesses are with regard to not only their sexual labour but also the ways the ambiguity of language, nationality, and history is manifested in their daily life, such as in using Japanese loanword “annada” (sweetheart) to call their clients and being seen as dalumei (the mainland little girl) despite their age and Taiwanese citizenship. What emotions and affects are at work when they sing a duet in both Mandarin and Minnanese with each other to express their feelings? How do we understand the sexual labour and women’s encounters in relation to not only …

Relations Between Self-Efficacy And Procrastination Types In College Students, Stephanie Da Silva Phd, Amanda Smith, Michael Facciolo
Relations Between Self-Efficacy And Procrastination Types In College Students, Stephanie Da Silva Phd, Amanda Smith, Michael Facciolo
Modern Psychological Studies
The relation of self-efficacy to procrastination was assessed using the General Self-Efficacy Scale (Schwarzer & Jerusalem, 1995), Active Procrastination Scale (Chu & Choi, 2005), and items from the General Procrastination Scale (Lay, 1986). Each of 106 college students was assigned a self-efficacy score and multiple procrastination scores. General procrastination was negatively correlated with self-efficacy (p = .001), whereas active procrastination was positively correlated with self-efficacy (p = .02). In domains where students feel more competent, they are more likely to engage in active forms of procrastination rather than maladaptive procrastination. Relations between self-efficacy and different types of procrastination, along with …

Exploring Associations Between Student Academic Achievement, Worry, Personality, And Parental Warmth And Control, Katherine G. Kaufling, Courtney Keim
Modern Psychological Studies
Parenting styles are related to high academic achievement (AA) and worrying, and yet excessive worrying may be related to lower AA. This study evaluates the potential nuanced relationships between AA, worry, parental warmth and control, and conscientiousness. 273 college students self-reported their GPAs and ACT scores, level of worry, conscientiousness, and their caregivers’ warmth and control. Parental warmth and control predicated AA, conscientiousness, and worry (r2 = .02 - .10), especially for male caregivers. Conscientiousness (R2 = .08) and worry (R2 = .03) moderated the relationship between parenting for male caregivers and academic achievement. Implications discussed include informing parents of …

The Google Trends Uncertainty (Gtu) Index: A Measure Of Economic Policy Uncertainty In The Eu Using Google Trends, Luisa Weinberg
Undergraduate Economic Review
The objective of this research is to use Google search data to build the Google Trends Uncertainty (GTU) index, a weekly measure of uncertainty surrounding economic policy in the four largest economies in the European Union: Germany, France, Italy, and Spain. By obtaining the relative popularity of Google searches with economic policy uncertainty connotations given a specific timeframe and geographical area, the frequency with which people search for terms related to economic policy effectively serves as a proxy for actual economic policy uncertainty. In its entirety, the various elements of this research allow to accurately and unbiasedly measure economic policy …

Coworker Influence, Megan Paul, Lauren Sparks
Umbrella Summaries
What is coworker influence?
Coworkers are the individuals in an organization that regularly work with a given employee, often performing similar tasks or collaborating in some way. Coworkers are typically in a similar hierarchical position in the organizational structure, differentiating them from subordinates, supervisors, or managers. Coworker influence is about how coworkers impact a given employee’s work experiences. There are two facets of coworker influence—coworker support and coworker antagonism (Chiaburu & Harrison, 2008). Coworker support is a positive influence, including desirable actions and behaviors. More specifically, there are two types of coworker support—instrumental and affective (Chiaburu & Harrison, 2008). Instrumental …

Diversifying Demography Of The Mountain West, Kelliann Beavers, Olivia K. Cheche, Vanessa Booth, Saha Salahi, Caitlin J. Saladino, William E. Brown Jr.
Demography
Between 2000 and 2019, Mountain West states and metros have mirrored a nationwide trend of white populations gradually making up a smaller percentage of the total population. As a result, various race-ethnic minority groups now make up larger percentages of the total population and have contributed to increased diversification in the region. Using data provided by the U.S. Census Bureau and analyzed by William H. Frey from the Brookings Institution, this Fact Sheet focuses on the diversification and population changes in the Mountain West.

Making The World A Better Place: How Crowdfunding Increases Consumer Demand For Social-Good Products, Bonnie Simpson, Martin Schreier, Sally Bitterl, Katherine White
Management and Organizational Studies Publications
Crowdfunding has emerged as an alternative means of financing new ventures wherein a large number of individuals collectively back a project. This research specifically looks at reward based crowdfunding, where those who take part in the crowdfunding process receive the new product for which funding is sought in return for their financial support. This work illustrates that consumers make fundamentally different decisions when considering contributing their money to crowdfund versus purchase a product. Six studies demonstrate that compared to a traditional purchase, crowdfunding more strongly activates an interdependent mindset and, as a result, increases consumer demand for social-good products (i.e., …

State Regulation Of Religion: The Effect Of Religious Freedom On Muslims' Religiosity, Hannah M. Ridge
State Regulation Of Religion: The Effect Of Religious Freedom On Muslims' Religiosity, Hannah M. Ridge
Political Science Faculty Articles and Research
Substantial scholarship argues that regulation of religion suppresses religiosity in a community by reducing individuals’ satisfaction with their religious experience. To date this research has assumed that regulations are enforced on and affect religious communities uniformly. It has also focused heavily on Western Christian populations and aggregated national data. We suggest that state regulation of religious communities and behaviours impacts citizens differently based on their affiliation. Using individual-level assessments of freedom and religiosity from Muslim-majority countries, we show that, at the individual level, restricting freedom suppresses religious belief and behaviour. Restrictions on religious minorities, however, can increase religiosity. As such, …

Forecasting Economic Activity Using The Yield Curve: Quasi-Real-Time Applications For New Zealand, Australia And The Us, Todd Henry, Peter C.B. Phillips
Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers
Inversion of the yield curve has come to be viewed as a leading recession indicator. Unsurprisingly, some recent instances of inversion have attracted attention from economic commentators and policymakers about possible impending recessions. Using a variety of time series models and recent innovations in econometric method, this paper conducts quasi-real-time forecasting exercises to investigate whether the predictive capability of the yield curve extends to forecasting economic activity in general and whether removing the term premium component from yields affects forecast accuracy. The empirical findings for the US, Australia, and New Zealand show that forecast performance is not improved either by …
Work Motivation In Wealth Management: The Role Of Self Determination Theory, Mark J. Mattia
Work Motivation In Wealth Management: The Role Of Self Determination Theory, Mark J. Mattia
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
In this paper, we use Self Determination Theory (Ryan & Deci, 2000A, Deci & Ryan, 2008) as the underlying theory to help determine the factors that may influence wealth advisors to consider leaving (or being committed) to their positions. Baard et al. (2004) established that Self-determination theory was relevant to motivation in the workplace. This quantitative study utilizes a survey instrument that incorporates many already proven reliable and valid items from Self-determination Theory to better understand the wealth advisor work motivation framework. This topic is important within financial services since positive work motivation has been tied to positive work outcomes …

Physical Health Impacts Of Grandparenting Children With Disabilities, Ynesse Abdul-Malak, Madonna Harrington Meyer
Population Health Research Brief Series
Although caring for grandchildren with disabilities often brings substantial joy to grandparents, it can adversely impact grandparents' physical health. For many grandparents, caring for their grandchildren makes them feel younger, mostly because they are more physically active and maintain healthier diets.

Accessibility Compliance And Assessments For Gateway Websites In Life Sciences: Toward Inclusive Design, Noreen Y. Whysel, Shari Thurow, Bev Corwin
Publications and Research
One main purpose of information architecture and site navigation is to enhance the effectiveness of user interfaces (UIs) by supporting and enabling task completion, accessibility, and sustainability. This is of particular importance for science gateways given the complexity of information on portal sites.
We examined the accessibility of 50 randomly selected gateway websites in the Life Sciences category in the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) catalog, using both manual and automated methodologies. None of these sites produced an accessible website as per W3C, WCAG 2.1, and Section 508 standards. The most common accessibility success in these websites was URL structure, …
The Relational Assessment Of Neglected Youth (Rany): Probing The Need For An Assessment Tool, Corrine Dale
The Relational Assessment Of Neglected Youth (Rany): Probing The Need For An Assessment Tool, Corrine Dale
Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences
While child neglect is the most substantiated form of child maltreatment, there is a lack of assessment tools leading to effective treatment, particularly among older victims of neglect. To date, the research has focused on younger victims and the subsequent disruption in the attachment relationship. Although development of child neglect assessment tools has been pioneered by an ecological model, the relational nature of this type of maltreatment also necessitates an assessment of relational factors that are highly correlated to child neglect. Because neglect occurs within the caregiver relationship, assessment of interpersonal impairments among older youth can best be guided by …

Corruption And Cooperative Organizations, Konstantinos Giannakas, Murray E. Fulton
Cornhusker Economics
Although the literature is limited, there is evi-dence that corruption in cooperatives and inves-tor-owned firms (IOF) is widespread in develop-ing and transition economies where corruption generally is common. Cooperative corruption is also found closer to home. Two recent examples from the United States include the Ashby Farm-ers’ Cooperative Elevator in Minnesota where the general manager stole from the cooperative and the Tri-County Electric Cooperative in South Carolina where board members enriched them-selves with perks and benefits. In Canada, the PACE Credit Union was placed under the regula-tor’s control in 2018 after two senior executives were discovered to have received secret …

Presentations
The COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting shift to working from home proved a boon for digital collections. At Clemson University Libraries the metadata team facilitated a work-from-home project, during which 14 employees across two units described a collection of over 2400 photographs. From the standpoint of both the metadata reviewers and metadata creators, we will provide an overview of the project and workflows, including how training, communication, metadata creation, and quality control were managed remotely. This presentation reflects a balanced cross-unit perspective on what worked well and what could be improved for future virtual collaborative projects.

Why Do We Joke About Killing Ourselves? Suicide, Stigma, And Humor, Jaxon C. Hart, Stephanie B. Richman
Why Do We Joke About Killing Ourselves? Suicide, Stigma, And Humor, Jaxon C. Hart, Stephanie B. Richman
Modern Psychological Studies
Humor serves a variety of functions, and the current study seeks to understand the function of suicide-related humor. Through the creation of a novel suicide-humor scale, we measured participants’ usage of suicidal humor and general humor, their experience with suicidality, and their stigma towards suicide. Our hypotheses that greater experience with suicidality will predict an increase in one’s use of suicide-related humor and self-defeating humor were supported. However, stigma did not mediate this relationship as expected. Findings suggest that people who have experience with suicide are more likely to use suicidal humor, but more work is needed to determine why.
