Enhancing A Cluster-Based Tdma Mac Protocol For Vehicle-To-Vehicle Communications, Abubakar Bello Tambawal
Enhancing A Cluster-Based Tdma Mac Protocol For Vehicle-To-Vehicle Communications, Abubakar Bello Tambawal
Student Works (2020-2029)
Vehicular Ad hoc Network technology (VANET) is one of the emerging and promising wireless technology, providing support for vehicles to communicate and share resources, (such as safety messages) through vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications. Sequel to that the Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) MAC protocol using a cluster-based topology has been proposed by the research community. Most of the existing research works focused on the cluster head (CH) election with very few addressing other critical issues, including cluster formation, efficient time slot allocation, and cluster maintenance. These challenges result in an unstable cluster, which could affect the timely delivery of safety applications. …

Content Modelling For Unbiased Information Analysis, Milind Gayakwad, Suhas Patil Dr
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Content is the form through which the information is conveyed as per the requirement of user. A volume of content is huge and expected to grow exponentially hence classification of useful data and not useful data is a very tedious task. Interface between content and user is Search engine. Therefore, the contents are designed considering search engine's perspective. Content designed by the organization, utilizes user’s data for promoting their products and services. This is done mostly using inorganic ways utilized to influence the quality measures of a content, this may mislead the information. There is no correct mechanism available to …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The significance of scientometric assessment in measuring the research performance and decision making process is well known to the academic community. This paper illustrates the result of a scientometric assessment of the research publications of the Sambalpur University, Odisha, India over the period 1990 to 2019. The SCOPUS database of Elsevier is used to pile-up the data. Various scientometric parameters are used for assessing the growth and measuring its implications. The analysis and visualization has been performed based on the total publication output, its growth rate, quality of papers published, global ranking, national and international levels of collaborative papers share, …
Affirmative Action And Mismatch: Evidence From Statewide Affirmative Action Bans, Leon Ren
Affirmative Action And Mismatch: Evidence From Statewide Affirmative Action Bans, Leon Ren
Undergraduate Economic Review
This paper empirically evaluates the mismatch hypothesis by exploiting the quasi-experimental variation in the adoption of statewide affirmative action bans. Specifically, this paper examines the effect of such bans on minority graduation rates using a difference-in-difference, synthetic control, and triple-difference approach. My results suggest that statewide affirmative action bans are associated with an increase in minority graduation rates, consistent with the mismatch hypothesis, at highly selective institutions. Moreover, mismatch effects are not confined to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) majors. JEL Codes: I28, J15

Libraries Without Walls And Open And Distance Learning In Africa: The Nigerian Experience, Ukoha O. Igwe
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Open and Distance Learning (ODL) is gradually gaining ground in Africa. Nigeria is a newcomer in the Open and Distance Learning paradigm. The experiences of several open and distance learning institutions such as the Open University of United Kingdom (OUUK), Athabasca University (Canada’s Open University), Open University of Hong Kong, Indira Gandhi National Open University, (IGNOU), and University of South Africa (UNISA), have provided a baseline for the take-off of the only Open University in Nigeria – the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). The successful take-off of NOUN is not without the incorporation of functional libraries. Effective library support …

Digital preservation of library materials has increased the need for methods to access the documents and contents maintained in digital archives. The use of altmetrics to quantify the impact of scholarly works, including PlumX, is increasing readership by listing articles in reference services. The outreach from the digital repository ScholarWorks at Stephen F. Austin State University (SFASU) highlights the impact within the natural resources community from Digital Commons, Forest Sciences Commons; and from the Natural Products Chemistry and Pharmacognosy Commons. The use of PlumX altmetrics was examined to evaluate usage, impact, and digital audience downloads for the Arthur Temple College …

PSU Transportation Seminars
In 2019, the LADOT Vision Zero Division launched the Vision Zero Dignity Infused Community Engagement (VZ DICE) strategy with the intent to transform the way the City engages with local communities. This planning process intentionally and holistically incorporates the viewpoints, lived experiences, and perspectives of those most impacted by a planning project and seeks to restore and atone for historic, systemic, and institutional injustices. A team of community partners, advocates, social scientists, artists, everyday residents, and technical experts came together to reach community residents in ways that reflect the local social, cultural, and racial/ethnic identity of a neighborhood. Replacement heifer rearing is critical for the future of dairy operations, to improve genetic merit and maintain herd size. A myriad of options exist on how to manage, feed, and ultimately raise replacement heifers. Pasture is perceived to offer optimal welfare and an economical housing system for replacement animals, but confinement systems are gaining popularity. This study investigates the costs associated with replacement heifer management decisions from birth to calving, considering the factors of housing systems, labor, feed, and health. The objective of this study was to develop an economic model to determine the cost of raising a replacement heifer …

Authentication is an essential step for giving access to resources to authorized individuals and prevent leakage of confidential information. The traditional authentication systems like a pin, card, a password could not differentiate among the authorized users and fakers who have an illegal access to the system. Traditional authentication technique never alerts about the unwanted access to the system. The device that allows the automatic identification of an individual is known as a biometric system. It is not required to remember a password, card, and pin code in the Bio-metric system. Numerous biometric characteristics like the fingerprint, iris, palm print, face …

A Fidelity-Based Integration Model For Explicit And Implicit Ensemble Coding, Ke Tong
A Fidelity-Based Integration Model For Explicit And Implicit Ensemble Coding, Ke Tong
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Human observers benefit from encoding summary statistical information from multiple similar stimuli, also known as ensemble coding. Empirical studies on ensemble coding have adopted paradigms with vastly different task requirements, raising questions about ensemble coding’s underlying mechanisms in different tasks. Are ensemble coding mechanisms task-dependent? How to model ensemble coding in different tasks? The current paper aims to answer these questions by systematically reviewing the ensemble coding tasks and models and proposing a computational model framework of ensemble coding in different tasks. The task review categorizes the tasks into two main types: Summary tasks (explicitly require observers to summarize ensemble …

Toward A Defined Role For Occupational Therapy In Foster Care Transition Programming, Amy Armstrong-Heimsoth, Molly Hahn-Floyd, Heather J. Williamson, Catherine Lockmiller
The Open Journal of Occupational Therapy
Youth who age out of the foster care system and transition to adulthood face challenges that are exacerbated by a history of trauma, severed relationships, and instability of living and educational placements. A review of the literature demonstrates poor outcomes overall for this population. Occupational therapists are positioned to meet the needs that arise during this time; however, a review of emerging roles for occupational therapists is necessary to describe how occupational therapists can best fulfill gaps in current programming. Through a review of the literature and a preliminary mixed-methods study, this paper establishes a direction for the inclusion of …
