A Study Verifying The Dimensioning Of A Multivariate Dichotomized Sample In Exploratory Factor Analysis, Rosilei S. Novak, Jair M. Marques

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

The sample size dichotomized was related to the measure of sampling adequacy, considering the explanations provided by factors and commonalities. Monte Carlo simulation generated multivariate normal samples and varying the number of observations, the factor analysis was applied in each sample dichotomized. Results were modeled by polynomial regression based on the sample sizing.

Parametric And Non-Parametric Tests For The Comparison Of Two Samples Which Both Include Paired And Unpaired Observations, Ben Derrick, Paul White, Deirdre Toher Mar 2020

Parametric And Non-Parametric Tests For The Comparison Of Two Samples Which Both Include Paired And Unpaired Observations, Ben Derrick, Paul White, Deirdre Toher

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

Samples that include both independent and paired observations cause a dilemma for researchers that covers the full breadth of empirical research. Parametric approaches for the comparison of two samples using all available observations are considered, under normality and non-normality. These approaches are compared to naive and newly proposed non-parametric alternatives.

Understanding And Identifying The Knowledge And Attitudes Of High School Coaches On Sport-Related Concussions, Marc A. Mortellaro Mar 2020

Understanding And Identifying The Knowledge And Attitudes Of High School Coaches On Sport-Related Concussions, Marc A. Mortellaro

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

Background and Purpose of the Study: Sport-related concussions are a major public health issue, particularly so in the setting of sports. Sports dominate American culture and with millions of athletes of all ages participating in these sports these athletes predispose themselves to the risks of sport-related concussions. High-school athletes are of particular interest because of the heightened risks of long-term consequences and of particular note second impact syndrome, which is a catastrophic injury primarily reported in the adolescent aged athlete. Appropriate concussion assessment and management is necessary for reducing the possibility of these long- term effects of concussions. Properly trained …

A Comparative Study Of Service Quality And User Assessment Among The Autonomous Colleges Of Thrissur District Using Libqual+® Tool, Jolly Varghese U, Dr.Thirunavukkarasu A

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Library is a service organization. Being a service organization, the satisfaction of the user is the primary concern. The present scenario of human development, which is aided and driven by Information and Communication Technology (ICT), make it necessary to consider all the aspects of a library (collection as well as service) while assessing the service quality. In this paper an effort has been made to assess the quality of information resources and services offered by three autonomous colleges of Thrissur District (Kerala) using the three dimensions of LibQUAL+® tool, i.e., ‘Affect of Service’, ‘Information Control’, and ‘Library as a Place’. …

Correctional Officers' Mental Health Literacy And Attitudes Toward Offenders With Mental Illness, Amber Rebecca Hebert

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Overrepresentation of people with mental illness in the criminal justice system is a major societal problem. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, nearly three quarters of people housed in local jails report having symptoms suggestive of mental illness. Individual consequences to incarceration for people diagnosed with a mental illness include disruption in treatment, increase in symptomology, exposure to violence, and victimization. Correctional officers are an important component to the criminal justice system but their role in the lives of offenders with mental illness has been understudied. The current study explored the mental health knowledge, attitudes, and personal experiences of …

Comorbidity associated with Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) is highly prevalent but largely understudied. In this study, we sought to determine 1) the prevalence of AD by race (White, African American, and Hispanics); 2) 20 chronic conditions’ commonly comorbid with AD and the prevalence, mortality rate, and health care expenditure of common AD and comorbid condition by race. A sample of 86,875 Florida 2010 Medicare beneficiaries aged 65 and older with 12 months of fee-for-service (FFS) enrollment were used in this study. In the present analysis, the prevalence of AD was highest among elderly Hispanic beneficiaries. Among 20 chronic diseases, heart disease …

Strategies For Managing Knowledge In Organisations: A Conceptual Study, De-Graft Johnson Dei, Thomas Bingle Van Der Walt Mar 2020

Strategies For Managing Knowledge In Organisations: A Conceptual Study, De-Graft Johnson Dei, Thomas Bingle Van Der Walt

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Strategies for managing and safeguarding knowledge are crucial for organisations, which calls for proper preservation and retention. The ability to create closer ties and better understanding between knowledge management (KM) and organisational performance is by establishing strategies. Strategies are used to plan, monitor and assess knowledge in organisations. Several factors need to be considered when deciding on a particular strategy to adopt, as the choice of strategy depends on the nature of the organisation. This study sought to analyse the strategies that organisations deploy to facilitate KM practices. It was discovered that the main strategies used to promote and safeguard …

A Review Of Qualitative Methods In Health Communication Research, Liza Ngenye, Gary Kreps

The Qualitative Report

This paper examines the ways that qualitative inquiry can be especially useful for gathering relevant descriptive data that can provide a deep understanding of health communication issues and processes, as well as to provide evidence-based guidance for addressing key challenges of health care delivery and promotion. This article promotes methodological diversity in research designs and illustrates the value of employing qualitative methods such as ethnography and grounded theory in health communication research. It is also provides calls for the application of less-used, unfamiliar qualitative methods such as phenomenology. Our careful bibliographic review of health communication research studies published over the …

Project Management Principles For Optimizing Publication Productivity Of Mixed Methods Studies, Abigail Baim-Lance, Anthony Onwuegbuzie, Jennifer Wisdom

The Qualitative Report

Mixed methods research is increasingly valued, although little attention has been placed on how to execute such projects well to achieve optimal publication for impact. Multiple publications from a single study allow scholars to explicate findings that cannot be contained in a single article and which address different aspects of study findings. This article contributes to the fields of mixed methods research by building on their roots in pragmatism, which we argue calls for effective research studies resulting in published findings. This article proposes a project management framework and describes how to optimize mixed methods manuscript production during each of …

Predictors Of Testosterone In Male African Elephants (Loxodonta Africana), Kaitlyn Campbell Mar 2020

Predictors Of Testosterone In Male African Elephants (Loxodonta Africana), Kaitlyn Campbell

UNO Student Research and Creative Activity Fair

Male African elephant (Loxodonta africana) populations in zoos suffer from a range of reproductive complications. In particular, insufficient testosterone production can have a detrimental effect on spermatogenesis and fertility. Few studies have explored the potential social, environmental, physiological and physical factors that influence bull testosterone levels in a zoo environment. The present study will collect endocrine and metabolic information from weekly fecal and blood serum samples taken over the course of the six-month study period. Social and environmental data will be collected in a survey provided to the institutions. Results will highlight the key factors contributing to fluctuations in testosterone …

A Melting Pot Of Medications: Issues Regarding Over-Prescribing In Dementia Populations, Angela Gifford Mar 2020

A Melting Pot Of Medications: Issues Regarding Over-Prescribing In Dementia Populations, Angela Gifford

UNO Student Research and Creative Activity Fair

Over-prescribing is an issue faced by many in the older population, but dementia patients statistically experience higher prescribing rates of potentially inappropriate medications compared to their peers. There are currently no FDA approved medications available for the direct treatment of dementia, but drug classes like anticholinergics and psychotropics are used for the management of behavioral symptoms associated with the disease. These drugs can cause negative side-effects in the dementia populations including gastrointestinal issues, neurological issues, increased hospitalizations, and increased mortality rates within this group. Most troubling, the benefits that are supposed to occur from taking these drugs have been show …

Widowhoods Effect On Careers, Jessica Lindahl, Jia Lee Mar 2020

Widowhoods Effect On Careers, Jessica Lindahl, Jia Lee

UNO Student Research and Creative Activity Fair

Nearly one million people in the United States each year are widowed.5 The majority of these individuals continue to maintain employment.5 It is critical to examine the impact of widowhood on career maintenance and development. Widowers experience challenges related to identity confusion4, depression1, role changes10, and financial stress4, all of which can adversely impact functioning at work. These challenges exist for widowers who continue in their current employment after the death of their spouse, as well as for those who may enter the world of work out of necessity upon …

Pharmacist-Prescribed Birth Control: A Policy Analysis, Brianna Full Mar 2020

Pharmacist-Prescribed Birth Control: A Policy Analysis, Brianna Full

UNO Student Research and Creative Activity Fair

Although unintended pregnancy in the United States has steadily decreased from 2008, rates are still unacceptably high as almost half (42%) of all pregnancies are not wanted or timed correctly (Finer & Zolna). In 2011, 2.8 million of the 6.1 million pregnancies in the United States each year were unintended. Public health professionals are worried about unintended pregnancy because research shows that unwanted or mistimed pregnancies come with associations to adverse maternal and child health outcomes, such as delayed prenatal care, premature birth, and negative physical and mental health effects for children (Frost, Frohwirth & Zolna, 2016). Also, two-thirds (68%) …

Path Analysis Of Education And Disease Burden In Dementia Vulnerability, Sarah Hubner, Hyeon Jung (Judith) Kim, Julie Blaskewicz Boron

UNO Student Research and Creative Activity Fair

When considering the various extrinsic variables that affect disease vulnerability, it is valuable to study temporal ordering of factors to identify areas for disease intervention. This study sought to inform improvement of networks for the purposes of education and health by attempting to better define the causal ordering of ethnicity, age, gender, education, disease burden, and dementia diagnosis with the Aging, Demographics, and Memory Study, a sub-study of the Health and Retirement Study. Participants and/or proxies self-reported total number of chronic conditions, subsequently regarded as disease burden. Assessments occurred over four waves; participants were not reassessed after dementia diagnosis. The …

"So, Who's In Charge?!": Managing Differences In Perceived Leaders Among Volunteers, Sanaa Ahmed, Sheridan Trent, Acacia Hoffman

UNO Student Research and Creative Activity Fair

Volunteers contribute greatly to the success of many organizations in the nation; this is especially true for nonprofit organizations that often find themselves stretched thin financially. Interestingly, although the importance of volunteers is generally acknowledged, there is little research investigating volunteers' perceptions of their leaders. When it comes to volunteers, expectations for leadership may be different than for employees. To address this gap in the literature, we take a step back and seek to understand the underlying nature of leadership for volunteers in nonprofit organizations. Studies have often bypassed the usefulness of qualitative research in examining new phenomenon. In an …

Sometimes A Joke Is Not Just A Joke: Examining The Role Of Humor On Police Officers’ Workplace Experiences, Rachael Rief Mar 2020

Sometimes A Joke Is Not Just A Joke: Examining The Role Of Humor On Police Officers’ Workplace Experiences, Rachael Rief

UNO Student Research and Creative Activity Fair

Masculinity is pervasive in the field of policing, present in both the culture and organizational structure. As women continue to represent a low number of all sworn law enforcement officers, research has begun considering how culture and structural conditions interact with gender to affect women’s experiences in policing. This research suggests that many informal and formal practices in police culture, including the use of gendered jokes or sexist humor, work to exclude women and highlight the importance of gendered aspects of the job. However, little research has explored the extent to which humor and joking behavior explicitly interacts with women’s …
