Started From The Future Now We're Here: The Effect Of Planning Direction On Motivation, Kaylee Boulton
Started From The Future Now We're Here: The Effect Of Planning Direction On Motivation, Kaylee Boulton
Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)
Planning for a future goal in reverse chronological order (i.e., backward planning) can result in increased task motivation for relatively specific, short-term goals, such as academic assignments (Park et al., 2017). Although sometimes backward planning is advocated for shorter-term, concrete event planning (e.g., planning a project timeline), it is also promoted for longer-term, identity-based, “visioning” exercises in which people imagine a desired future-self more generally, then backward plan the path to attaining it. The purpose of the present research was to empirically test this type of applied goal-setting program that promotes the use of backward planning when thinking about one’s …
Obtaining And Retaining Engagement In Nonprofit Organizations, Sierra Price
Obtaining And Retaining Engagement In Nonprofit Organizations, Sierra Price
Masters Theses
This project is a guide for directors to strategically communicate and display behavior that will influence volunteers to be engaged nonprofit settings. Engagement and motivation is influenced by communicative patterns from directors. Volunteer engagement can result to acceptance of leadership styles, clear understanding of vision, and building trust. Directors should minimize disengagement by fostering behavior that is correlated to working with volunteers in a partnership.
An Ideal Approach To Prejudice: An Investigation Of Promotion-Oriented Motivators Underlying Interracial Interactions, Rachael Waldrop
An Ideal Approach To Prejudice: An Investigation Of Promotion-Oriented Motivators Underlying Interracial Interactions, Rachael Waldrop
WWU Graduate School Collection
Avoidant-based processes motivate the inhibition of prejudiced responding; however, approach-based responding can lead to more positive experiences within interracial interactions. Research has delineated the intrapersonal mechanisms that influence avoidant behavior in relation to prejudice and nonprejudiced values, yet the same exploration has not been observed among the psychological motivators of approach-oriented behaviors. As such, the purpose of the current research was to test the intrapersonal mechanisms that influence Whites’ use of approach behaviors during interracial interactions. Drawing upon regulatory focus theory and prejudice-discrepancy based models, we hypothesized that (1) chronic motivations to avoid negative outcomes (prevention focus) would stimulate avoidant …
