Open Access Through Institutional Repositories: The A3ir Con Experience, Brittany Blanchard
Open Access Through Institutional Repositories: The A3ir Con Experience, Brittany Blanchard
Aviation / Aeronautics / Aerospace International Research Conference
Institutional Repositories (IRs) are intertwined with the Open Access (OA) movement and are becoming a standard feature for research libraries. Utilizing the open web and indexing for search engines IRs increase visibility and access to scholarly works.
Since it’s creation in September of 2013 the Scholarly Commons currently holds over 4,000 works, that have been downloaded 136,548 times.
The Commons hosted the 2014 A3ircon Proceedings and will be the site hosting 2015’s proceedings. This poster shows how the proceedings were accessed as well as challenges for future conferences.

Aviation / Aeronautics / Aerospace International Research Conference
The Center for Aviation and Aerospace Leadership (CAAL) was founded in 2008 to capture, create, and share relevant information on leadership in the aviation and aerospace industry.
The AIR is developed and published in collaboration with the Aerospace Industries Association and includes:
• Information on the status of aerospace manufacturing in the United States and state of the economy
• An in-depth review of sales across the various sectors of the industry, employment trends, key international trade statistics, financial information on the industry & major aerospace firms, trends to watch, and a forecast for the future based on a review …
Peer Reviewed Safety Management Systems: Collaboration For Continuous Improvement, Michael F. Canders
Peer Reviewed Safety Management Systems: Collaboration For Continuous Improvement, Michael F. Canders
Aviation / Aeronautics / Aerospace International Research Conference
Collegiate aviation program leaders have no greater responsibility than assuring safe flight operations. A Safety Management System (SMS) is an effective framework to present and reinforce key safety principles and can be effectively tailored for the collegiate aviation flight training environment. The collegiate academic tradition of peer review can be effectively leveraged to enable collaboration between collegiate aviation programs and provide a mechanism for continuous improvement of participating programs. This presentation provides a model for establishing a peer review process for collegiate Safety Management Systems and the construction of a password-protected repository for reviewed programs which can be referenced by …
A Meta-Analysis Of Crew Resource Management/Incident Command Systems Implementation Studies In The Fire And Emergency Services, John C. Griffith, Donna L. Roberts, Ronald T. Wakeham
A Meta-Analysis Of Crew Resource Management/Incident Command Systems Implementation Studies In The Fire And Emergency Services, John C. Griffith, Donna L. Roberts, Ronald T. Wakeham
Aviation / Aeronautics / Aerospace International Research Conference
The presentation will summarize a meta-analysis of studies on Crew Resource Management/Incident Command System implementation in the fire and emergency services. The need for using participative leadership tools such as CRM evolved from an NTSB recommendation that followed United Airlines Flight 173 crash in 1978. NASA, civilian and military aviation communities implemented Crew Resource Management (CRM) training to improve decisionmaking during flight operations. Maintenance Resource Management (MRM) was a variant of CRM and first appeared in a Federal Aviation Administration circular in 2000. CRM was adopted by the medical community in the 1990s, specifically in the surgical and nursing areas, …
Human Factors Considerations In Autonomous Lethal Unmanned Aerial Systems, Kristine Kiernan
Human Factors Considerations In Autonomous Lethal Unmanned Aerial Systems, Kristine Kiernan
Aviation / Aeronautics / Aerospace International Research Conference
The United States military is committed to the development of complete autonomy in unmanned vehicles, including armed unmanned aerial systems (UAS). The design and deployment of autonomous lethal UAS raises ethical issues that have implications for human factors. System design, procedures, and training will be impacted by the advent of autonomous lethal UAS. This paper will define relevant vocabulary, review the literature on robot ethics as it applies to the military setting, discuss various perspectives in the research community, address levels of UAS autonomy, and discuss implications for operator training, responsibility, and human-machine interaction. Familiarity with these ethical issues and …
Unmanned Insecurity: The Safety And Privacy Issues Of Unmanned Aircraft Information Assurance, Donna A. Dulo Ph.D.
Unmanned Insecurity: The Safety And Privacy Issues Of Unmanned Aircraft Information Assurance, Donna A. Dulo Ph.D.
Aviation / Aeronautics / Aerospace International Research Conference
Information assurance and computer security are foundational paradigms in ground based information systems. However, in the aerial realm of unmanned systems, information security often takes the proverbial back seat to high visibility issues such as safety and privacy. Yet, a secure unmanned aircraft is a basic tenant of safety and privacy in the operational arena. Information assurance and security that are enveloped into an unmanned aircraft protect the systems data, communications, as well as internal operations and permeates not only the aircraft’s systems, but also the system’s interactions with satellites, ground stations, and other aerial entities that share data and …

Innovations In Representing Specific States Of Consciousness, Barry Klein
The Qualitative Report Conference
On-going research has not produced a sufficiently precise and practical methodology which could yield a substantive evolution in qualitative research, but I have developed techniques, from world traditions as well as from transpersonal research, for calibrating specific states during and right after they are experienced. Benefits of this could lead to improved treatments for disorders as well as for self-improvement and cross-cultural communications.
