Molecular-based characterizations of Andean peoples are traditionally conducted in the service of elucidating continental-level evolutionary processes in South America. Consequently, “western” Andean population genetic variation is often represented in relation to “eastern” variation among Amazon and Orinoco River Basin populations. This west-east contrast in patterns of population genetic variation is typically attributed to large-scale phenomena, such as dual founder colonization events and/or differing long-term microevolutionary histories. However, alternative explanations that consider the nature and causes of population genetic diversity within the Andean region remain underexplored.
Here we examine population genetic diversity in the Peruvian Central Andes using mtDNA HVI and …

Analysis Of Monetary Policy Decision Making Among Heterogeneous Monetary Policy Committee (Mpc) Members At The Central Bank Of Nigeria, C. C. Ezema, O. J. Odonye, T. S. Shitile, O. O. Afiemo
Analysis Of Monetary Policy Decision Making Among Heterogeneous Monetary Policy Committee (Mpc) Members At The Central Bank Of Nigeria, C. C. Ezema, O. J. Odonye, T. S. Shitile, O. O. Afiemo
Economic and Financial Review
This paper provided an empirical analysis of policy-makers' voting patterns on interest rates in Nigeria. Employing a (pooled) Taylor rule and using real-time data obtained from published personal statements of monetary policy committee members at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the paper tests for preference heterogeneity among MPC members. The aggregate reaction function as well as individual reaction functions for MPC members were used to tests whether there is a difference between the voting patterns of internal members and that of external members of the committee. Our results suggest evidence of heterogeneity among MPC members and that the voting …
Responsiveness Of Nigeria's Short-Term Interest Rates To Changes In The Policy Rate, M. K. Tule
Responsiveness Of Nigeria's Short-Term Interest Rates To Changes In The Policy Rate, M. K. Tule
Economic and Financial Review
This paper appraises the efficacy of the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) as an anchor for other short-term interest rates in the economy. Adopting the vector autoregression approach, the responses of Nigeria's short-term interest rates to changes in the interbank rate (proxy for MPR) was modelled. The paper found that the pass-through from MPR to money market interest rates in the long-run is higher for the prime and lending rates than for changes in the Treasury bill rate and 3-month deposit rate. Overall, there seemed to be an asymmetric impact with an increase or fall in the interbank rate.
Quality Of Governance And Stock Market Performance: The Nigerian Experience, K. B. Ajide
Quality Of Governance And Stock Market Performance: The Nigerian Experience, K. B. Ajide
Economic and Financial Review
The paper examines the impact of governance on stock market performance using quarterly data series spanning 1996Q1 to 2010Q4. An ARDL bound testing methodology was employed to explore such causal relationship. Long-run stable relationships were established through the error correction terms of each of the measures used to the tune of -0.4821,-0.4034 and -0.4080 for all share price index, market capitalisation and the value of total stock traded, respectively. Findings indicate that macroeconomic and financial stability should be constantly maintained and promoted as it constitutes a drag on the stock performance; any acts of corruption should be eschewed as it …

Nigeria's Monetary Conditions Index, M. K. Tule, A. M. Isah, P. N. Okafor, I. Pedro, S. A. Ukeje, K. Oji, S. Oladunni
Economic and Financial Review
The paper aims to construct a monetary conditions index (MCI) for Nigeria to aid the evaluation of the stance of monetary policy. Quarterly data for 91-day treasury bill rate (TBR), real exchange rate (RER), inflation rate (INF), real private sector credit (RCP), and real gross domestic product (RGDP), covering the period 2000Q1 to 2014Q1, were utilised. The period coincided with key reforms in the money and foreign exchange markets, culminating in the adoption of a new monetary policy framework in 2006. Following some econometric diagnostic tests, an aggregate demand function was estimated using the Johansen co-integration technique. The resultant long-run …

Tiers 1, 2 & 3 Intervention: Social Skills Instruction, Jenna Strawhun, Ann O'Connor, Laura Norris, Reece L. Peterson
Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders: Faculty Publications
Conclusion
Social skills instruction has been found to have a positive impact on students. While there has been some controversy over the long term impact of social skills instruction and its generalization to other settings, it has resulted in improved behavior at school and should be a part of efforts to improve school climate and behavior at school, particularly for those students who have not learned these skills informally. Additionally specific social skills instruction can be used as an alternative disciplinary consequence for inappropriate behavior at school although there is not currently enough research studies to say this is an …

Tier 3 Intervention: Wraparound, Jenna Strawhun, Reece L. Peterson, Amber Reeble, Scott Fluke
Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders: Faculty Publications
Conclusion
According to VanDenBerg et al. (2003), the basic tenant of wraparound is simple: “If the needs of the youth and family are met, it is likely that the youth and family will have a good (or at least an improved) life” (page 4). Therefore, wraparound appears to be a promising process for coordinating and organizing the delivery of services to children and youth with serious emotional and behavioral disorders. Preliminary findings suggest mixed results for the costeffectiveness and long term effectiveness of wraparound in addressing mental health symptoms, although its widespread use and many positive evaluations albeit without consistent …

Religion has quickly proven itself the defining conflict issue of the Twenty-First Century. Religion and conflict are frequently linked in popular discourse, yet from the beginning, religions have typically held peacemaking as a central value and obligation to their members. This ancient tension between religion as a vehicle of peace and religion as a source of division has taken on global dimensions in recent decades, particularly across a belt of countries roughly crossed by the Tenth Parallel, where Islam and Christianity meet, but in many other parts of the world as well, including Boston. Increasingly, conflict resolution activities must better …

We Were Alway United, Except When We Were Not: Bivocal Memory And Georgia's Geopolitical Dilemma, Nino Batiashvili
All Theses and Dissertations (ETDs)
This study examines two distinct but mutually constitutive discursive genres on Georgian identity: one based in the voice of self-idealization and the other in self-condemnation. These two genres are embedded in historical conceptions and enact public debate on the country's geopolitical challenges. The ethnographic material I examine, unveils politically strained discursive terrain that unfolds as a "game of memory" between two visions of Georgian history, Georgian identity and Georgian geopolitics.
Throughout this study I examine how these two voices unfold through debates on historical memory and how they shape forms of political reasoning. On the basis of diverse textual and …
Physiological Arousal Response To Differing Musical Genres, Ericka Kelley, Gabrielle Andrick, Fayelin Benzenbower, Marlene Devia
Physiological Arousal Response To Differing Musical Genres, Ericka Kelley, Gabrielle Andrick, Fayelin Benzenbower, Marlene Devia
Modern Psychological Studies
Music is a complex medium that has social, psychological, and physiological implications. Music elicits early emotional responses (arousal) in the sympathetic nervous system, that later become consciously recognized emotions. We investigated how music genre effects physiological arousal by measuring participant skin conductance level (SCL). Physiological responses of 19 participants (3 male, mean age 23 years) were recorded by way of the iWorx 214 Psychophysiology Teaching Kit. The stimuli were four different genres of music: classical, Dubstep, Celtic, and big band (swing). Stimuli were presented to participants in one of four counterbalanced blocks. Participants' highest SCL matched their reported genre preference …
Recovery Is Developmental: An Exploration Of Eriksonian Psychosocial Theory Adapted To Eating Disorder Recovery, Ashley Fee
Modern Psychological Studies
This qualitative study investigated women's experiences of recovery from an eating disorder using an adaptation of Erikson's stage theory of recovery from mental illness. Five female participants, ages 20-40 years old and who identified as having an eating disorder and going through some form of treatment, were interviewed regarding their development, experience, and recovery from an eating disorder after completing the EAT-26 survey. Participants' responses were analyzed using open, axial, and selective coding. Three influences within the recovery process emerged through the analysis: personal (self), transitional, and interpersonal (social). The analysis suggests that an adaptation of Erikson 's developmental theory …
