Systematic reviews of research literature have emerged as important tools in evidence-based practice. The importance of qualitative research findings in this pursuit has led to the development of meta-synthesis approaches creating new interpretations from primary qualitative findings. A step-by-step process for conducting such a qualitative meta-synthesis will be shared.

To achieve these outcomes educators of these new qualitative researchers will need to create transparent environments that facilitate active learning through a supportive relationship of performance and feedback all leading to the creation of meaningful real-world products.

An Innovative Approach To Improving Father-Child Relationships For Fathers Who Are Noncompliant With Child Support Payments: A Mixed Methods Evaluation, John R. Gallagher, Joan R. Rycraft, Tommy Jordan

Journal of Adolescent and Family Health

Mixed methods were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the Fathers Offering Children Unfailing Support (FOCUS) program. FOCUS is a diversion program which is designed to offer an alternative to incarceration for fathers who are noncompliant with child support payments. Quantitative data were collected through a pretest/posttest design (n = 55) and qualitative data were collected through telephone interviews with FOCUS instructors (n = 2) and community key stakeholders (n = 5) and focus groups with FOCUS participants (n = 76). FOCUS appears to be benefiting children by increasing their fathers’ emotional support, strengthening co-parenting relationships, and promoting their fathers’ …

OBJECTIVES: A growing body of evidence indicates that the delivery of public health activities varies widely across states and communities, creating missed opportunities for prevention as well as inequities in health protection. Measures of quality in public health are needed to guide public health improvement initiatives and to support research on the comparative effectiveness of alternative public health strategies. The Multi-network Practices and Outcomes Variation Examination Study (MPROVE), uses the infrastructure of six Public Health Practice-Based Research Networks (PBRNs) across the U.S. to develop and validate a “starter set” of measures and to analyze geographic variation delivery across diverse public …

Methods and systems for anonymized video analysis are described. In one embodiment, a first silhouette image of a person in a living unit may be accessed. The first silhouette image may be based on a first video signal recorded by a first video camera. A second silhouette image of the person in the living unit may be accessed. This collection consists of more than 450 panels of the “Muggs and Skeeter” cartoon drawn by Wallace Bond “Wally” Bishop, a longtime resident of St. Petersburg. Wally Bishop and his wife, Louise C. Bishop became leaders in a variety of social circles and cultural organizations in the greater St. Petersburg area. In the late 1930s, they bought the elaborate mansion constructed by C. Perry Snell on Brightwaters Boulevard at the mouth of Coffee Pot Bayou. In Louise’s later life, her profound concern for ethics in undergraduate education led to the establishment of the Bishop Center for Ethical Leadership and Civic …

Correlates Of Social Anxiety, Religion, And Facebook, Lee Farquhar, Theresa Davidson

Scholarship and Professional Work - Communication

This study examined how religiosity, network homophily, and self-monitoring relate to social and Facebook-specific anxiety, role conflict, and Facebook Intensity. Correlation analyses indicate a connection between Facebook use and anxiety, as well as a link between religiosity and anxiety. We found that Role Conflict correlates with Facebook Intensity, Facebook specific Anxiety, and Social Anxiety. Regarding religiosity, those who prefer aliteral interpretation of the Bible, attend church more frequently, and pray more often have higher anxiety. Facebookers who are higher self-monitors have a less homophilous Facebook network and are less likely to identifytheir religious views on Facebook.

Finding aid only for Folklife Archives Project 727. This collection contains information and documentation of the Kentucky Crossroads Community Scholars Cultural Survey Program. The program was opened to recent graduates of the Community Scholars Program and the RHDI (Rural Heritage Development Initiative) region in central Kentucky to conduct paid cultural surveys of the area.

Medicaid Expansions & Public Health Spending: Cross-Subsidies, Complementarities, And Crowd-Out, Glen P. Mays

Health Management and Policy Presentations

In this paper we estimate the causal impact of state Medicaid enrollment expansions and expenditures on state and local resources allocated to other public health programs and services. Using a quasi-experimental design with instrumental variables estimation, we find evidence that increased Medicaid spending leads to reduced governmental spending on other public health services, consistent with a crowd-out effect. Over 10 years, such crowd-out has the potential to diminish the health status improvements generated through health insurance coverage expansions.

The concept of border of document allows us to deploy the significant content of a document in several regimes of meaning. A document can be studied as a semiotic mediation according its communicational intention (intention to inform, intention to signify, intention to inform oneself, intention to interpretate). After studying those values of the document, the question is about whether a documentary border persists unchanged when regimes of meaning are updated.
