Gender Differences And Similarities In The Work-Family Interface: The Importance Of Considering Family Life Stages, Giuseppe Martinengo

This study focuses on the importance of considering the interaction between gender and family life stages to properly understand gender similarities and differences in the work and family interface. Data for this study come from the IBM 2004 Global Work and Life Issues Survey representing 79 countries (N=41,813). This study is a first step toward a better understanding of similarities and differences among male and female workers across the life course and it shows that work, family and life outcomes are similar across groups, independent of life stages or gender. Phonological Facilitation Through Translation In A Bilingual Picture-Naming Task, Paul Amrhein, Aimee Knupsky

We present a critical examination of phonological effects in a picture-word interference task. Using a methodology minimizing stimulus repetition, English/Spanish and Spanish/English bilinguals named pictures in either L1 or L2 (blocked contexts) or in both (mixed contexts) while ignoring word distractors in L1 or L2. Distractors were either phonologically related to the picture name (direct; FISH–fist), or related through translation to the picture name (TT; LEG–milk–leche), or they were unrelated (bear–peach). Results demonstrate robust activation of phonological representations by translation equivalents of word distractors. Although both direct and TT distractors facilitated naming, TT facilitation was more consistent in L2 naming …

Banyak industri makanan Tangerang ditemukan menggunakan bahan pengawet formalin. Tujuan penelitian ini mengetahui peranan Dinas Kesehatan (Dinkes) Kabuppaten Tangerang mengawasi dan mengendalikan formalin pada makanan. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada Nopember 2006-Pebruari 2007. Dengan metode kualitatif wawancara mendalam dan penelusuran dokumen. Sumber data adalah Dinkes Kabupaten Tangerang dan Puskesmas terpilih. Para responden adalah Kepala Dinkes Kabid Yankes; Kasi Pengawasan makanan dan minuman; Staf pelaksana Dinkes dan Puskesmas. Hasil yang ditemukan meliputi pengawasan dan pengendalian formalin dilakukan oleh dinas kesehatan secara rutin sejak tahun 2004. We live in an increasingly digital world. Preparing for this conference I composed my paper in word-processing software, e-mailed the draft to my co-presenters, selected digital images and screenshots for our presentation, and announced my travel plans on the library staff blog. Cultural materials are also riding the wave to go digital and oral histories provide intimate pathways into the stories of our world. Emerging adulthood has been characterized as an age of possibilities that involves heightened identity exploration and risk-taking. Although some scholars have investigated the relation between identity status and risk behaviors in emerging adulthood, less attention has been paid to the relation between identity status and prosocial orientations. Thus, the current study examined how emerging adults’ engagement in positive behaviors (i.e., prosocial tendencies, internalization of values, religiosity) varied as a function of identity status and gender. Results indicated that emerging adults who were in identity diffusion reported fewer prosocial tendencies, lower scores on internalization of values and lower religiosity, but emerging …
