The Jocassee Gorges Natural Area is approximately 43,500 acres in size and is managed as a Wildlife Management Area by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR). The purpose of the Jocassee Gorges Outdoor Recreation Use Survey was to determine the outdoor recreation activities, participation rates, and resource uses of the Jocassee Gorges. Secondary objectives included documenting and describing the current use of on-site visitors, participation rates, and temporal and spatial distribution patterns of use. The current and past use by local residents of the Jocassee Gorges were documented. A total of 263 on-site visitors were contacted, of which …

Hurricane Forecasting, Warning And Response Systems: A Lake Wales Public Perception Study, April E. Raulerson

This research investigates the public perception of hurricane forecasting and warning systems with a view to improving response activities. The hazard literature shows that the effectiveness of such systems is contingent upon on the smooth operation of all components of the system and that warning recipients fully understand the implications of the warning message by taking appropriate action. It is argued that public perception of warning systems will vary depending on various socio-demographic factors, such as age, gender, level of education, socioeconomic status and area, factors that will ultimately influence overall effectiveness. The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

On April 2, 2007, the U.S. Supreme Court in 2 Massachusetts v. EPA ruled 5-4 that carbon dioxide (CO ) was an air pollutant under the Federal Clean Air Act (CAA). The court’s decision means that the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is required to reconsider its decision not to regulate carbon monoxide (CO) as an air pollutant when establishing auto tailpipe emission requirements. The court’s decision is an important victory for those seeking a more active United States policy on regulating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to combat global warming. Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

The migration from print to digital media for the storage, retrieval, and communication of all types of data has influenced the way people source for research materials. A questionnaire was administered to evaluate users' views of the use of libraries and online resources for research. Hypotheses tested using chi square to at the 0.05 level of significance revealed that there is no perceived significant difference in staff efficiency and ease of use of facilities in academic libraries and the online environment. A didactic approach to teaching database research skills has proven to be dreadfully dull and ineffective for many students. One possible solution to this problem is to incorporate educational games with predetermined learning objectives into the curriculum. Chemistry/Biochemistry majors at the University of Notre Dame take a required information literacy skills course that introduces chemistry database search techniques. The course features several databases – highlighting the distinct nuances of each database and the different search strategies required to access information. This study was conducted by the Institute for Policy and Economic Development (IPED) at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) at the request of Boeing Corporation in the state of Texas in order to measure the economic impact of Boeing activities on the state. These include direct expenditures on wages and salaries, as well as supplier expenditures, other direct costs expended such as tuition reimbursements, and philanthropic activities.
