Tigard-Tualatin School District Enrollment Forecast Update, 2008-09 To 2011-12, Portland State University. Population Research Center, Charles Rynerson, Vivian Siu

School District Enrollment Forecast Reports

The Tigard-Tualatin School District (TTSD) enrolled 12,460 students in Fall 2007, an increase of 153 students (1.2 percent) from Fall 2006. Growth was concentrated in the secondary grades, with increases of 59 students (2.1 percent) in middle school grades 6-8, and 93 students (2.4 percent) in high school grades 9-12. Elementary grades K-5 enrolled only one more student in Fall 2007 compared with Fall 2006. This report presents the results of a demographic study conducted by the Portland State University Population Research Center (PRC). The study includes analysis of population, housing and enrollment trends affecting the District in recent years, …

This thesis explores the possibility that experience with green buildings influences peoples' behavior in ways that help bridge the gap between, on one hand, public concern for the natural environment and on the other hand, willingness to adopt sustainable lifestyles and support pro-environmental policies. The study utilizes research on factors that influence behavior to construct a theoretical model in which these factors might be influenced by a person's experience in a green building. This thesis compares the HIV/ AIDS policies in the United States of America and the United Kingdom since the emergence of the virus in 1981. Despite a privatized health care system in the U.S. and the universal system in the UK, which lie on opposite ends of the policy care spectrum, similar populations have recently emerged as those most in need of health care services, preventative programs, and financial assistance. Consuming Culture: Extralocal Exchanges And Kalinago Identity On Dominica, Kathryn A. Hudepohl

Tourism is a significant global force affecting indigenous residents of numerous destination locales worldwide. This paper considers the effects of tourism on Kalinago ethnicity in the Commonwealth of Dominica. In this particular case, tourist consumption of indigenous handicrafts reinforces Kalinago claims to a distinct ethnic identity. Extralocal exchanges that occur as a result of tourism strengthen identity in part by heightening awareness of the ethnic boundary that differentiates the community from outsiders and by stimulating participation in traditional handicraft production. This chapter examines the role of women's intra-household status relative to men's in children's food security in Pakistan. Data from the 1991 Pakistan Integrated Household Survey (PIHS) yield a measure of evidence of a positive relation between women's intra-household status and children's food security.

This article examines inflation with reference to Nigeria. As an emerging market environment. Part one outlines briefly the underlying mechanisms of inflation-management and general approaches to inflation targeting. Part two focuses on issues that specifically relate to inflation targeting (IT) in emerging markets, including the possible macroeconomic impact of the transition process. This article seeks to address the relationship between monetary policy and economic growth by enunciating the conceptual and theoretical issues that relate to monetary policy and economic growth. The paper is divided into five sections. Following the introduction in section 1, section 2 discusses the objectives of monetary policy. The monetary transmission mechanisms are schematically explained in section 3. Section 4 reviews the performance assessment of monetary policy and its framework in Nigeria. On The Total Duration Of Negative Surplus Of A Risk Process With Two-Step Premium Function, Pavlina Jordanova

We consider a risk reserve process whose premium rate reduces from cd to cu when the reserve comes above some critical value v. In the model of Cramer-Lundberg with initial capital u ≥ 0, we obtain the probability that ruin does not occur before the first up-crossing of level v. When u < v, following H. Gerber and E. Shiu (1997), we derive the probability that starting with initial capital u ruin occurs and the severity of ruin is not bigger than v. Further we express the probability of ruin in the two step premium function model - ψ (u,v), by the last two probabilities. Our assumptions imply that the surplus process will go to infinity almost surely. This entails that the process will stay below zero only temporarily. We derive the distribution of the total duration of negative surplus and obtain its Laplace transform and mean value. As a consequence of these results, under certain conditions in the Model of Cramer-Lundberg we obtain the expected value of the severity of ruin. In the end of the paper we give examples with exponential claim sizes.

Efficacy Of Cognitive Therapy And Pharmacotherapy In Depression: A Meta-Analysis, Daniel B. Michel

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

A meta-analysis comparing the long-term effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and pharmacotherapy in preventing relapse following treatment discontinuation was performed using published studies of depressed participants. Twenty-three articles met inclusionary criteria and were included in the analyses. Weighted effect sizes and moderators, treatment type, were calculated using statistical analysis software. Initially, fixed effects models were applied to the data, but due to significant between-group heterogeneity that could not be fully explained by treatment type, mixed effect models were used to account for the residual heterogeneity. Results indicated that overall, depressed individuals treated to remission with CBT evidence decreased relapse …

Pediatric obesity is a national epidemic with serious medical implications. Currently, almost one-quarter of children in the United States are overweight. Without intervention, children typically are unable to outgrow obesity and the majority of overweight children become overweight adults. Further, childhood obesity results in numerous psychological consequences, including dissatisfaction with body image. Thus, prevention and treatment of childhood obesity are crucial to protect children from the resultant physical and psychological risk factors which will impact their future health.
