Privatization Methods And Productivity Effects In Romanian Industrial Enterprises, John S. Earle, Álmos Telegdy
Privatization Methods And Productivity Effects In Romanian Industrial Enterprises, John S. Earle, Álmos Telegdy
Upjohn Institute Working Papers
Comprehensive panel data on privatization transactions and labor productivity in Romanian industrial corporations are used to describe the post-privatization ownership structure, and to estimate the effect of Romania's diverse privatization policies on firm performance. The econometric results show consistently positive, highly significant effects of private ownership on labor productivity growth, the point estimates imply- ing an increased 1.0 to 1.7 percentage growth for a 10 percent rise in private shareholding. The strongest estimated impacts are associated with sales to outside blockholders; insider transfers and mass privatization are estimated to have significantly smaller—although still positive—effects on firm performance.

"Especiallly The Mulato Ones Like To Dance” Cuban Films And Discourses Of Ethnic Difference, Shannon N. (Shannon Nicole) Budelman
WWU Honors College Senior Projects
This paper examines the meaning of ethnicity in contemporary Cuba. By conceptualizing inequality as structured in both the public and private realms of society, I argue that the private realm should be given equal weight in social research on ethnic inequality. The paper differentiates between structural inequality in the public realm, which has been largely addressed by the previous literature on Cuban society, and the meaning of ethnic difference at the cultural level, which shapes the nature of social interactions in the private realm. Drawing on both the sociology of culture and cinema studies, I analyze Cuban films for representations …

A Pilot Study On Job Satisfaction And Conflict Resolution Of Female Employees Working For Female Employers, Keanan B. (Keanan Breanne) Jacobson
WWU Honors College Senior Projects
Whether in business, volunteering, family life, personal friendships or daily interactions, employers view individuals who manage conflict successfully as competent communicators and capable leaders. “Indeed, those who are unable to manage conflict effectively may have trouble reaching organizational goals (Mathur & Sayeed, 1983; Nicotera, 1995), maintaining positive relationships and cohesiveness (Canary, Cupach & Messman, 1995; Coser, 1956), and solving problems (Hall, 1986). Individuals who have difficulty handling conflict are also more likely to be dissatisfied with their jobs (Infante & Gorden, 1985a, 1985b, 1991; Infante, Anderson, Martin, Herington, & Kim, 1993). Thus, it is imperative that researchers determine how competent …

In 2001, the arsenic standard for drinking water was lowered from 50 parts per billion to 10 parts per billion. The clean-up costs for Nevada are estimated at approximately 400 million dollars. The purpose of this project is to examine the economic impacts the State of Nevada will absorb as a result of the new regulation. Research of historical data will be the basis for the project. National data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and data collected from the State of Nevada will be accompanied by comparable research data found through other sources

Ukrainian Mine Action, Sergio Pashinsky
Ukrainian Mine Action, Sergio Pashinsky
The Journal of Conventional Weapons Destruction
There is no doubt that the Ukraine is a mine and UXO affected country. This fact is well known but still not recognized by the international mine action community. Perhaps the biggest issue is that the Ukrainian government has not acknowledged this national challenge, and consequently, international assistance has not been given.
National Mine Action: Problems And Predictions, Vernon Joynt
National Mine Action: Problems And Predictions, Vernon Joynt
The Journal of Conventional Weapons Destruction
I recently received an e-mail with real good bait on the line so I would commit to sticking my neck in the noose once more. The questions included: Will technology ever improve speed and safety in Humanitarian Demining (HD)? What is the comparative efficiency among commercial, military and NGO clearance? Will dogs be more or less integrated into HD programs? When will land use priorities determine clearance priorities? Is "donor fatigue" a reality? If so, how do we fix it? These questions are right in the middle of my current pet struggle to give technology its rightful role and place …
