Consistent Testing For Stochastic Dominance: A Subsampling Approach, Oliver B. Linton, Esfandiar Maasoumi, Yoon-Jae Whang Feb 2002

Consistent Testing For Stochastic Dominance: A Subsampling Approach, Oliver B. Linton, Esfandiar Maasoumi, Yoon-Jae Whang

Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers

We propose a procedure for estimating the critical values of the Klecan, McFadden, and McFadden (1990) test for first and second order stochastic dominance in the general k -prospect case. Our method is based on subsampling bootstrap. We show that the resulting test is consistent. We allow for correlation amongst the prospects and for the observations to be autocorrelated over time. Importantly, the prospects may be the residuals from certain conditional models.

2002 Mayoral Runoff Survey, Susan E. Howell Feb 2002

2002 Mayoral Runoff Survey, Susan E. Howell

Survey Research Center Publications

It appears that Ray Nagin continues to enjoy a substantial lead over Richard Pennington in the election for Mayor of New Orleans. In spite of the flurry of negative campaigning immediately following Mardi Gras, there does not appear to be very much movement in aggregate voter preferences. These results are similar to Verne Kennedy's results from a survey taken Feb. 13th to Feb. 14th in which he found Nagin's support to be 48% and Pennington's 29%. The most positive news for Ray Nagin is that he has significantly expanded his support from the primary election, while Richard Pennington's support has …

Combined Interviews

Richard Myers discusses his background and experience playing for the Texas Western College basketball team that won the 1966 NCAA championship. As a native of Kansas, he discusses his optimistic first impressions of El Paso, coach Haskins, and his team. While his team attained notoriety for having five all-star African American players, Myers notes that their placement was due to their abilities, not because of their skin color. The media was responsible for placing such a heavy emphasis on his teammates’ skin color as the season progressed. He maintains that his team was not racially discriminated against as they travelled. …

On The Edge Of Scarcity: Environment, Resources, Population, Sustainability, And Conflict, Michael N. Dobkowski, Isidor Wallimann

Program for the Advancement of Research on Conflict and Collaboration

These essays address one of the most pressing and significant issues that humanity has confronted to date - the lack of life-sustaining resources. Michael N. Dobkowski and Isidor Wallimann establish a disturbing but realistic scenario of the disastrous future that awaits humankind as surplus populations collide with dwindling resources. Authors consider a number of cause-and-effect situations on industrialization, biophysical limits, exponential population growth, and genocide, to name a few. This volume is a critical contribution to the field and will serve as an ideal introduction to courses in the environment, population, resources, genocide, and social conflict.

The plaintiff was the Committee for Protection of Human Rights, headed by noted Soviet dissident, Father Gleb Yakunin. The article discusses the court proceedings in a wider socio-historical context, showing the ways …
