It is shown that the KPSS test for stationarity may be applied without change to regressions with seasonal dummies. In particular, the limit distribution of the KPSS statistic is the same under both the null and alternative hypotheses whether or not seasonal dummies are used.

The control chart based on the geometric distribution (geometric chart) has been shown to be competitive with p- or np-charts for monitoring the proportion nonconforming, especially for applications in high quality manufacturing environments. However, implementing a geometric chart is often based on the assumption that the in-control proportion nonconforming is known or accurately estimated for a high quality process, an accurate parameter estimate may require a very large sample size that is seldom available. In this paper we investigate the sample size effect when the proportion nonconforming is estimated. An analytical approximation is derived to compute shift detection probabilities and …

Teams occupy a strong presence in the modern workplace. However, few studies have tracked the evolution of team behavior over time. The use of cross-sectional team research fails to appreciate the stages that teams pass through as they evolve and mature. The present study had three goals in mind. The first goal was to arrive at a causal model of team performance via a secondary statistical analysis on the research conducted by Cunningham (2001) and Strobel (2001). The purpose of the study was to determine the difference between American and German students in perception and frequency of sexual harassment. The participants were female Old Dominion University psychology undergraduates and psychology students from the Universitaet Freiburg. A survey containing the Sexual Experiences Questionnaire {SEQ), the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and modified questions from Gutek's (1985) Main Questionnaire (Women's Version) was used. The survey was designed to reveal sexual harassment experiences in the work environment or in the university setting, while measuring the effect of the experiences on self-esteem and the students' reactions to the incidents. The primary objective of this thesis is to provide support for statistical analysis of CPortS: a transportation logistics simulation, which models the movement of military traffic through seaports and the interaction of the traffic with port infrastructure. By any standards, CPortS is a very large, data intensive simulation. It provides capabilities for analyzing many important issues such as port clearance and throughput. CPortS was classically run in single run mode. Only a single replication of the simulation was performed and conclusions were drawn from the results obtained. This research generates a method for easy comparison of national military doctrines as they pertain to peacekeeping operations by using the Conceptual Model of Peace Operations (CMPO) as an organizational framework. Microsoft Excel is utilized as an interface as a means for individuals or organizations to compare individual national peacekeeping doctrines on an independent framework. Recruitment Of Engaged Couples For Premarital Counseling: An Empirical Examination Of The Importance Of Program Characteristics And Topics To Potential Participants, Kieran T. Sullivan, Carmen Anderson

The recent emphasis on prevention in helping couples to avoid marital distress may be limited by lack of participation in prevention programs by engaged couples. The purpose of this study is to understand what potential participants perceive are attractive characteristics in premarital prevention approaches. Eighty-six engaged couples completed questionnaires assessing demographics, personality and the relative importance of premarital program characteristics. The results indicate that leader characteristics, content, and topics such as communication, finances, and problem-solving are the most important elements of premarital counseling to couples. Presents national estimates of children who ran away from or were thrown out of their homes, based on surveys of households and juvenile facilities. The Bulletin, which is part of a series summarizing findings from the Second National Incidence Studies of Missing, Abducted, Runaway, and Thrownaway Children (NISMART–2), also analyzes characteristics of runaway/thrownaway children and episodes. Of the estimated 1,682,900 youth with a runaway/thrownaway episode during the study period, 37 percent were missing from their caretakers, and 21 percent were reported to authorities for help in locating them. Two-thirds of youth with a runaway/thrownaway episode were ages 15–17, and 71 …

Presents national estimates of children abducted by family members in 1999, their demographic characteristics, and the characteristics of perpetrators and episodes. The Bulletin is part of a series summarizing findings from the second National Incidence Studies of Missing, Abducted, Runaway, and Thrownaway Children (NISMART-2). Of the estimated 203,900 children who experienced a family abduction, 117,200 were classified as caretaker missing and 56,500 were reported as missing to law enforcement or other agencies. Younger children were at greatest risk of being abducted by a family member. Use of threats or physical force was uncommon. The Bulletin also discusses policy implications of …

Technical Service departments throughout libraries today are increasingly in the position to create and maintain non-MARC metadata that may be shared among institutions. The Cornell University Geospatial Information Repository (CUGIR) Metadata Sharing Project is an example of a system that manages heterogeneous metadata such as MARC, Dublin Core, and Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM). The mechanics and policies required to exchange MARC records are mature and well understood. In contrast, non-MARC metadata resource sharing is largely uncharted territory. In this Dialogue, Dallas Virchow and Scott Hygnstrom challenge the present, widely held view that the numbers of black-tailed prairie dogs have declined significantly in post-settlement times. Using quotes and numbers from historical accounts of the occurrence of the prairie dog by the early explorers and settlers, they build a case that occurrence and abundance of the prairie dog in the shortgrass prairies and midgrass regions to the west of the tallgrass region in the Great Plains cannot be used to estimate the presettlement abundance of the species in tallgrass areas. Although the United States is a leader of the technological revolution, there are segments of American society—particularly the poor, minorities, and the geographically isolated—for whom access to computers and the Internet is significantly lower. The E-Rate, created by Congress as part of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 (Public Law 104-104), is a federal program that seeks to bridge this “digital divide” by supporting broader public access to the new digital technology at public and private nonprofit educational institutions. Statistical Methods To Partition Effects Of Quantity And Location During Comparison Of Categorical Maps At Multiple Resolutions, R. Gil Pontius

New generalized statistical methods to measure agreement between two maps at multiple-resolutions, where each cell in each map has a multinomial distribution among any number of categories, are presented. This methodology quantifies agreement between any two categorical maps, where either map uses fuzzy or crisp classification. The method measures the agreement at various resolutions by aggregating neighboring cells into an increasingly coarse grid. At each resolution, the method partitions the overall agreement into correct due to chance, correct due to quantity, correct due to location, error due to location, and error due to quantity. 本論文研究中國大陸的金融中介体 (包括銀行和股票市場) 与經濟增長相關性。所用數据是從1994 年到2001 年的季度時間序列數据。作者對各個時間序列數据都考慮了季節因素的影響并進行了穩定性檢驗。

回歸分析結果發現,從長期來看, 金融深度 (DEPTH) 和經濟增長有顯著的正相關關系, 國有商業銀行相對与銀行体系的規模的比例和經濟增長有不顯著的關系。這表明銀行的發展對經濟的增長是有促進作用。同時, 股票市場的相對于經濟總量的規模和經濟發展有顯著的正相關關系, 但是股票市場的流動性和經濟增長有不顯著的關系。這個表明中國大陸的股票市場從長遠來看其發展會促進經濟發展, 但是其流動性對經濟發展的作用並不大。

為了研究金融中介和經濟發展的短期關系, 本論文運用誤差校正模型來檢驗金融中介和經濟發展的相關性。結果表明衡量股票市場規模的變量CAPITALIZATION 和經濟 增長有顯著的負相關關系。這表明中國股票市場存在巨大的 “ 泡沫”, 大量的投机和其它不良的行為。對此, 政府應該重視和加強對股票市場的監控, 對一級市場的上市審批和二級市場的交易買賣都要進行引導, 使股票市場真正成為企業融資的好渠道。

中華人民共和國自建國以來，就是以馬列主義、毛澤東思想為指導理論 的意識形態國家，然而意識形態不是任何時候都左右了中國的外交戰略的。 當意識形態在中國的內政、外交上處於主導位置時，通常不會出現務實 的外交戰略。但是當國家陷於政權的生存、鞏固和安全的危機時，就會出現例 外。

當國家總體戰略是以經濟建設為中心，強調發展經濟，意識形態相對淡化時，務實外交戰略就大行其道。

就中國的務實外交戰略的本質而言，中國本國的國家利益仍然是指導中 國外交戰略的最高原則，其務實的本質與國際政治學理論中的實在主義並無根本的不同。然而，毛澤東時代與鄧小平時代實行務實外交戰略是有不同的，前者僅是外交戰略中的例外，後者則是常規，而非例外。

不論在毛澤東時代還是在鄧小平時代，務實外交戰略在特定的時代背景下都得到了淋漓盡致的展現。前者為中國鞏固新生政權和化解國家安全危機起 到了根本性的作用。後者?中國的社會主義現代化建設爭取了二十多年的和平環境，使中國的經濟得以維持了二十多年的持續高速增長，使中華民族的偉大復興出現了曙光。
