The Beads Of Tenth- To Twelfth-Century Hungary, Katalin Szilágyi

BEADS: Journal of the Society of Bead Researchers

An examination of the beads recovered from three Hungarian cemeteries in use during the 10th-12th centuries resulted in the identification of 61 distinct bead types. Seven of these were found to be significant on the basis of frequency analysis, and represent the beads most used by the local population. The study is enhanced by comparative material from a number of other contemporary archaeological sites in and around the country. The classification system developed for this study is applicable to other geographical areas and time periods, and may be expanded or otherwise modified to suit the needs of other researchers.

Merovingian Beads On The Lower Rhine, Frank Siegmund

BEADS: Journal of the Society of Bead Researchers

This paper presents a classification for beads of the Merovingian period (ca. A.D. 450-750) in the Lower Rhine region of Germany. Strings of beads recovered from graves are ordered by a seriation (correspondence analysis) which results in an ethnic (Roman vs. Frankish) and chronological structuring of the material. By comparing this with the chronological scheme established for the other archaeological finds, it becomes evident that the favored types of beads changed about every two generations. Besides changes in distinctive types, a development in general color preference is also observed.

Most models of the rental housing market assume a close linkage between the level of residential rents and the after-tax user cost of rental housing capital. However, little empirical evidence exists to establish the strength of this linkage or the speed with which rents adjust to changes in user cost or tax policy. This paper develops and estimates an econometric model of the rental housing market in order to shed light on both of these issues. United States annual data for 1964 through 1993 are used to generate two-stage least squares estimates of a four equation structural model. Although the …

Social Security has left its indelible mark on the American culture, however there still remains considerable debate over the effect it has had in curtailing personal savings for the express purpose of providing for one’s retirement. This study begins with a review of the origins of the modem Social Security system and critiques previous attempts at trying to quantify its impact on personal savings habits. Economic- air pollution models have been developed using an econometrics regression approach for the ambient air concentration levels of total particulate matter (TPM) ,, I960- 1990, sulfur oxide (SOx), 1962-1992, and carbon monoxide (CO), 1970-1992. There are some difficulties in determining the explanatory variables because many variables which affect ambient air levels may also be related to others explanatory variables. Furthermore, the lack of available ambient air concentration level data is another constraint in developing the models. The purpose of this study was to develop a profile of Service Learning activities and programs in South Carolina; to explore the relationship between the person coordinating these activities and the degree to which Service Learning is practiced; to determine how Service Learning projects and activities respond to the national priorities of meeting critical educational, human, public safety, and environmental needs; and to determine how many students are participating and the number of hours they are volunteering in Service Learning activities. In this Article, I want to explore the schizophrenic nature of the interaction between social ideals and empirical observations concerning dependency. I am particularly interested in the family as a social and political construct that facilitates this interaction. Specifically, I argue that continued adherence to an unrealistic and unrepresentative set of assumptions about the family affects the way we perceive and attempt to solve persistent problems of poverty and social welfare. In the normative conclusions that are generated and reiterated in political and popular discussions about family, we assess the "justice" of particular policies addressing societal problems with reference to …

A building thermal model was used to compute hourly values of temperature humidity index (THI) for a broiler house with and without an evaporative misting system. Hourly summer time weather data for 238 U.S.A. locations covering 30 years were used to develop extreme occurrences of THI. Results were incorporated into a Geographical Information System (GIS) database to create isolines of THI and percentage of hours exceeding a heat stress threshold. Regional variations in misting as a suitable cooling technique are presented in terms of hours reduction in annual heat stress. The technique may be used for assisting in management decisions …

การศึกษาครั้ง มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อหาวิธีการประเมินราคาที่ดินสำหรับนำไปใช้ในการพัฒนาโครงการที่อยู่อาศัย และศึกษาวิเคราะห์ปัจจัยต่าง ๆ ที่มีผลกระทบต่อมูลค่าของที่ดิน และโครงการที่อยู่อาศัยผลของการศึกษาพบว่า วิธีการประเมินราคาที่เหมาะสมสำหรับการประเมินราคาเพื่อโครงการที่อยู่อาศัย คือ การประเมินราคาที่ดินจากส่วนที่เหลือ หรือวิธีการประเมินราคาที่ดินจากการตั้งสมมุติฐานในการพัฒนาโครงการ โดยมีหลักการในการประเมินราคา คือ การกำหนดมูลค่าสูงสุดที่ได้จากการพัฒนาโครงการในแปลงที่ดิน แล้วนำมาลบด้วยต้นทุนรวมในการพัฒนาโครงการและผลกำไรที่คาคว่าจะได้รับของผู้ประกอบการ ส่วนที่เหลือคือราคาที่ดินที่ต้องการทราบมูลค่าโดยนำมาคิดเป็นมูลค่าปัจจุบันตามระยะ เวลาในการดำเนินโครงการในส่วนของปัจจัยที่เกี่ยวข้อง ซึ่งมีผลกระทบต่อมูลค่าในการประเมินราคา ได้แก่ ปัจจัยด้านกฎหมายและระเบียบข้อบังคับต่าง ๆ ปัจจัยด้านสังคมและประชากร, ปัจจัยด้านเศรษฐกิจและการตลาด, ปัจจัยด้านการเมืองและนโยบายของรัฐ และปัจจัยด้านกายภาพ พี่งปัจจัยดังกล่าวจะมีบทบาทสำคัญต่อมูลค่าของที่ดินในการประเมินราคาแนวทางในการนำวิธีการประเมินราคาที่ได้จากการศึกษาไปใช้ จะเหมาะสำหรับนักลงทุน หรือ นักพัฒนาที่ดิน เพื่อใช้ประกอบการตัดสินใจซื้อที่ดินสำหรับนำไปพัฒนาโครงการ และสำหรับนักประเมินราคา ควรนำไปใช้ร่วมกับการประเมินราคาตามวิธีเปรียบเทียบราคาตลาดเพื่อให้ได้ราคาประเมินที่ดินที่มีมูลค่า เหมาะสมกับการใช้ประโยชน์อย่างแท้จริง
