Congress should establish a committee on regulatory reform. Changes that would be helpful include: 1) require benefit-cost analysis for new regulation; 2) enforce a fixed timetable for agencies to issue permits; 3) emphasize objectives sought rather than precise methods to be used; 4) use risk assessment for achieving environmental, health, and safety protection; and 5) promote regulatory justice.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India (MOHFW), with assistance from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), launched a landmark project in India’s most populous state, Uttar Pradesh. The Innovations in Family Planning Services Project was implemented under the management of the State lnnovations in Family Planning Services Agency (SIFPSA), Lucknow. Conducting baseline surveys in 15 selected districts of Uttar Pradesh was the first step in the project. The goal was to reduce the fertility rate in Uttar Pradesh by expanding and improving family planning (FP) services. Resource sharing through interlibrary loan has allowed libraries to offer access to information far beyond the walls of any one institution. Since the first interlibrary loan transaction, however, librarians have worked to reduce borrowing and lending costs and to improve delivery speed. The Ohio Library and Information Network (OhioLINK), in contract with Innovative Interfaces, Inc., is pushing the idea of resource sharing a step further.

We consider the problem of repeatedly evaluating the same (computationally expensive) query to a database that is being updated between successive query requests. In this situation, it should be possible to use the difference between successive database states and the answer to the query in one state to reduce the cost of evaluating the query in the next state. We use nonrecursive Datalog (which are unions of conjunctive queries) to compute the differences, and call this process “incremental query evaluation using conjunctive queries”. A Practice Approach To The Japanese Company : Loyalty, Harmony And Incentives, Kyonosuke Hirai

Asian Review

A number of books on the Japanese society published since the Sixties considered the Japanese collectiveness as the source of Japan's economic success. Drawing on the work of Pierre Bourdieu, the paper shows that harmony and loyalty in the large Japanese company, which they emphasised as symbols of the collectiveness, indicate only an ideological picture of Japanese society, and, in reality, employees consciously or unconsciously attempt to improve their positions in terms of accumulating symbolic capital in daily activities. The paper relies largely on the author's own experience in a large Japanese company between 1988 and 1990.

More than a dozen years ago, the archival educator and writer Richard Cox outlined the development of American archival history and offered some suggestions for the work that still needed to be done in that field. Drawing on a range of publications, from the obscure to the well-known, he surveyed a century of writing in this country on the history of the archives profession, its people, and its institutions, as that history had appeared in monographs and in scholarly journals of state, regional, and national circulation. Populations derived from crosses of elite genotypes are commonly used in plant breeding programs. Knowledge of the genetic variation among individuals and their progenies within F2 populations is essential for effective selection of important traits. The genetic variation and number of effective factors affecting the expression of quantitative traits within 30 F2 maize (Zea mays L.) populations were determined by different methods suggested for study of F2 populations. Estimates of heritability and number of effective factors varied among F2 populations for each trait, primarily because of the differences in trait expression between parents of crosses and the environmental effects upon …

This research paper focuses on the herbal remedies, beliefs, personal stories, and other bits of facts about traditional herbal medicine of the Southwest United States. This examines the history of herbal healing, how plants are selected for use, and their location within New Mexico.
