The Attributes Of Leadership In Southern Baptist Churches In West Texas, Tim Winn

This study deals with leadership attributes in Southern Baptist churches in West Texas. A review of literature indicated that leadership in the congregations would tend to reflect the perceived purposes of the group, would be elected by the church or arise to counter poor leadership by the elected leader(s), probably be relationship oriented, and that the selection of leaders would be affected by the size of the churches and the length of tenure of the pastors. The study attempted to determine if there were characteristics that set leaders apart from non leaders in the churches. Six variable clusters of characteristics …

Social and employment changes have occurred in the United States over the past twenty years that have had a drastic impact on the "traditional" American family. Americans now live in an era of inflation and economic change in which a second family income is often a necessity just to maintain.an adequate standard of living. Mothers' are no longer waiting until their youngest child enters elementary school to enter or re-enter the labor force. By 1985, 57% of mothers' of children under the age of six were in the labor force, whereas in 1950, only 12% were employed (Department of Labor, …

In recent years medical societies have begun to recognize the effects and benefits of good communication between physician and patient. Like any other relationship, the exchange of information with fluent understanding creates a stronger bond of trust. Most applied research conducted in the area of physician-patient communication concentrates on physician behaviors which the patient views as problematic. This thesis focuses on patient assertiveness and its relationship to physician-patient satisfaction in the consultation process. Specifically, the study focuses on the relationship between patient assertiveness and physician-patient satisfaction.

The International Effects Of U.S. Farm Subsidies, Eric O'N. Fisher, Harry De Gorter
Economics
Using dynamic programming, this paper examines effects of farm subsidies on U.S. exports of corn, cotton, rice, and wheat. The six policy simulations described here explore alternative proposals in the current round of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade. The analysis leads to two conclusions. First, abolishing domestic subsidies lowers world prices of these crops. Second, imposing tighter supply controls may not actually decrease exports in the short run.

Lower Class Insurgency And The Political Process: The Response Of The U.S. Unemployed, 1890- 1940, Harold R. Kerbo, Richard A. Shaffer
Social Sciences
This paper examines the level of protest activity by the unemployed in the United States between 1890 and 1940 as a test of the value of a political process model for explaining social movement activity. Data on protest events and elite attitudes towards the unemployed were collected from newspaper articles. Voting behavior was used as an indicator of contested elections and unemployment levels were reflected by available indicators. Con- sistent with previous research on lower- and working-class mobilization, a change in the political environment was key to the extensive protest by the unemployed in the 1930s.
