The Octofoil, March 1954, Ninth Infantry Division Association
The Octofoil
The Octofoil is the offical publication of the Ninth Infantry Division Association, Inc., an organization formed by the officers and men of the 9th Infantry Division in order to perpetuate the memory of fallen comrades, preserve the esprit de corps of the Division, promote peace and serve as an information bureau about the 9th Infantry Division. The Association is made up of 9th Infantry veterans from WWII and Vietnam, spouses, widows and lineal descendants.

Published as a series sponsored by the Smithsonian Institution Bureau of American Ethnology, the “River Basin Surveys Papers” are a collection of archeological investigations focused on areas now flooded by the completion of various dam projects in the United States. The River Basin Surveys Papers (numbered 1-39) were mostly published in bundles with 5-6 papers in each bundle. This is the saga of WIlliam Cochran and his parents-wire-recorded interviews of his experiences told to his daughter, who has arranged the material in orderly sequence, but kept his language.
He came west where the buffalo were, in the wild, rough 70’s, and on farther west to the cattle range in the 80’s. These were days when families moved to take up homesteads in the face of hardship and disappointments.

A printed mail order flyer for Dutch Haven in Soudersburg, Pennsylvania dated 1954. The flyer features advertisements for shoofly pies and other Amish goods such as dolls, puzzles, aprons, toleware plaques and tea towels. It also contains a map of the "heart of Amish country" in Lancaster County and prints a description of Amish and Mennonite traditions.
