Anthropological Method And Theory In A Study Of Costume, Harvey Cleaver Moore
Anthropology ETDs
The purpose of this dissertation is threefold, With the achieving of the third and major goal dependent upon the achieving of the first and second minor goals.
First is the problem of deciding what methods will be useful in the original study to be undertaken later. Second is the application of these methods to the subject of the original study, namely, the changes in the form of garment parts of the costumes in the eighteenth century French court circles and upperclasses. Third id the problem of examining the sequences of costume forms so determined to see what these sequences imply …

An Anthropological Investigation Of The Correo Snake Pit, Sigfred Sandberg
Anthropology ETDs
During the summer of 1949 the University of New Mexico Field Sessions in Anthropology undertook the excavation of a site located on the Albert Harrington Ranch some thirty miles due west of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Eight under-graduates participated in the work under the supervision of the author, a graduate student in Archaeology. The site was a blown out spring situated near Correo, three and one half miles southwest of the Santa Fe Railway coal and water station in Suwanee. The name "Correo Snake Pit" was assigned to the excavation.
Since this find is probably one of the more important in …
A Comparison Of The Meaning Of Some Current Terms In Anthropology, Harry L. Naylor
A Comparison Of The Meaning Of Some Current Terms In Anthropology, Harry L. Naylor
Anthropology ETDs
Any science or comparable discipline must, logically and rationally, rest upon a basis of acceptance of the validity of its postulates. Further, in order for the science to advance, there must be a virtual, if not complete acceptance of terminology and the meanings ascribed to the various terms by a significant number of the active workers in the field.
Some German Interpretations Of Neolithic Origins During The Period Of Nazi Influence, Eugene Thomas Frosio
Some German Interpretations Of Neolithic Origins During The Period Of Nazi Influence, Eugene Thomas Frosio
Anthropology ETDs
My intention in this study is to break down the Neolithic Period into component parts, and state what the various German authorities propose in the case of each. Not only the works appearing during the prescribed decade will be consulted, but also those of the pre-1933 years. In each case these opinions compared to those of standard British and American and, at times, Scandinavian authorities. Deviations between these need not necessarily indicate that a falsification has taken place. Nevertheless, a unanimity of agreement in part of perhaps four different countries other than Germany would perhaps be important sign of it. …
Farm Organization And Management In Egypt And Utah, Aly A. Morad
Farm Organization And Management In Egypt And Utah, Aly A. Morad
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Agriculture in Egypt is important to the economic structure of the country today as it was during the ancient days of Joseph and the Pharoahs, which dates back more than 3,500 years. As for Utah, agriculture is still important to the economic structure of the state as it was a hundred years ago in the days of Brigham Young and the Pioneers. These two statements should not hide the fact that the importance of agriculture to the economic structure of the two areas is diminishing. Since these ancient days, new techniques and methods have been introduced and used in agriculture. …
An Examination Of Union-Management Relations In The Garland Plant Of The Utah-Idaho Sugar Company, Theral V. Bishop
An Examination Of Union-Management Relations In The Garland Plant Of The Utah-Idaho Sugar Company, Theral V. Bishop
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The problems presented in Union-Management Relations affect the whole economy. When collective bargaining breaks down and economic warfare, in the form of strikes or lockouts, results between industry and labor, the effects reach far beyond the two parties immediately concerned. Strikes in industries, such as the Coal or Steel Industries, impose depressive imprint upon every segment of the economy. even in purely regional industry the effects of labor dispute spawned shutdowns cannot be isolated to the parties directly involved. Therefore, any efforts that seek to find and remove causes of Union-Management conflict are worth while and should be encouraged. This …
An Economic Analysis Of The Possible Implications Of The Abolition Of The Basing Point System Of Pricing On The Steel Industry In Utah, Lester T. Hansen
An Economic Analysis Of The Possible Implications Of The Abolition Of The Basing Point System Of Pricing On The Steel Industry In Utah, Lester T. Hansen
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The production of iron in America began in a limited area east of the Alleghenies, centered around Philadelphia, which was also a principal port of entry for foreign iron. As early as 1750, pricing was done on a rudimentary basing point structure. Apparently, all prices on domestic iron were quoted on a Philadelphia base and were higher in the outlying territory where the iron was actually made. The manufacturers absorbed freight in order to move their iron to the central market, where it competed with foreign iron.
History Of The Reorganization Of Utah's State Administrative Government By The Twenty-Fourth Legislature, Desmond L. Anderson
History Of The Reorganization Of Utah's State Administrative Government By The Twenty-Fourth Legislature, Desmond L. Anderson
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
In the evening of January 13, 1941, Herbert B. Maw, who was then beginning his first term as Governor of the state of Utah, addressed his first legislative message to a joint session of the 1941 Utah Legislature from the rostrum of the chamber of the House of Representatives. An overwhelming amount of the Governor's message was devoted to a multifaceted topic, the reorganization of Utah's state administration.
After extensively deploring state structural and political organization as it existed at that time, Governor Maw declared:
The plan which I shall now propose is a product of the recommendations of the …

Conditions At The Utah State Industrial School In 1947 With Emphasis On Changes In Program In 1945, 1947 And 1949, Bert Anderson
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
This study deals with the program, personnel, and physical plant of the Utah State Industrial School. Studies made of the school are few. Among them, the Survey made by John Schapps, Field Consultant of the National Probation Association, between January and July, 1946, is probably the most comprehensive and professional in nature. Since Mr. Schapps's study began only three months after Mr. Parley Kilburn was appointed superintendent, this investigator covered conditions mainly as they were under the old administration. This study aims at comparison of conditions, facilities and programs as they existed in 1947 and 1949 with those found by …
Attitude Of Utah Farm People Toward The Extension Service In Utah, Stephen L. Brower
Attitude Of Utah Farm People Toward The Extension Service In Utah, Stephen L. Brower
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The Cooperative Extension Service in agriculture and home economics was established on a national basis in 1914 by the passage of the Smith-Lever Act. The act stated, in broad non-restrictive terms, that the major purpose of cooperative extension work was "to aid in diffusing among the people of the United States useful and practical information on subjects related to agriculture and home economics, and to encourage the application of the same." Thus the primary function of the Cooperative Extension Service in agriculture and home economics is education.

The object of this investigation is to test two widely accepted hypotheses concerning the stereotype concept of sociology and social psychology by analysis of the American Indian as depicted in comic books, magazines, and motion pictures. From a total of sixty stories about Indians taken from a sampling of these sources a relatively complete stereotype has been abstracted.
The Demand For And Consumption Of Fluid Milk In Logan, Utah, 1949, Edwin B. Jones
The Demand For And Consumption Of Fluid Milk In Logan, Utah, 1949, Edwin B. Jones
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Dairying is one of the most important agricultural enterprises in Utah. Income from the sale of dairy products by farmers within the state comprises about fifteen percent of the total farm income. Milk and its products are an essential part of the diet of practically all consumers. Its widespread use makes it a commodity that should receive special consideration and study. The continued growth of the industry depends upon how well it can meet the demands of the consumer in supplying quality dairy products at reasonable prices. The problems that need particular attention to bring about continued growth are efficient …

Political Science ETDs
The study of government is so closely interwoven with the lives of some pioneers who have been responsible for their formulation that it is always of interest to consider these individuals in the light of the background and experience that may have brought them to bear at any given period.
The School In Sociological Community Research Studies, Jack H. Curtis
The School In Sociological Community Research Studies, Jack H. Curtis
Sociology ETDs
The task undertaken in this thesis is to make comparisons between the objectives of education as set forth by the National Education Association and the conclusions regarding public education which were reached by the research workers in eight community social research studies.
Briefly, the norms adopted for this thesis are the "objectives of education in democracy" as formulated by the Educational Policies Commission of the National Education Association. These objectives are (1) self-realization, (2) improved human relationships, (3) economical efficiency, and (4) Civic Responsibility.
The quest asked, then, in the analysis of each of these community studies is this: Insofar …

The Sociological And Social-Psychological Functions Of The Urban Protestant Church, Lois Chambers
The Sociological And Social-Psychological Functions Of The Urban Protestant Church, Lois Chambers
Honors Papers
The major purpose of the paper is, of course, to record the results of a very limited study ofsome of the functions of urban Protestant churches. However, in order that this particular study may be seen in proper context, it seems necessary to begin the report with a brief consideration of the general area of the sociology of religion, including major questions with which previous research and theories have been concerned, and significant trends in contemporary research in this area.
A further requirement for adequate reporting of a study such as this one seems to be a complete description of …

An Analysis Of Academic Achievement In Psychology, Charles Spital
Master's Theses
Some kinds of educational tests have been in use for centuries, dating back to oral tests of Socrates. It was not until 1845, however, that the brilliant Horace Mann first pointed to the advantage of written essay examinations over oral. And even then he could not precipitate any great rush toward the use of written tests.

The Presidential Campaign Of 1948, Edward John Hallauer
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
In the sprint of 1948, President Harry S. Truman's chances of being re-elected to the presidency of the United States seemed very dubious. It was uncertain that he would even secure the Democratic nomination for that office.
Truman's pre-convention Western trip. In the early summer of 1948 President Truman left the Capitol on a supposedly non-political Western trip. Although his aids insisted the journey was to be non-political, the fiction deceived no one. However, it enabled the President to charge off the cost of the excursion to his $30,000 a year travel allowance instead of sending the bill to a …

Survey Of The Play Therapy Clinic At The College Of The Pacific From February, 1948 To February, 1949, Donald Leong Fong
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The aim of this historical survey is to present a well organized statement of the activities of the play therapy clinic at the College of the Pacific and to analyze and evaluate the findings . One year after the origin of the clinic , there was felt the need for a survey. The writer has had many opportunities to observe the functions and the operation of the clinic, and he has felt that the activities and objectives of the clinic should be defined clearly in writing so that the beginning students at the clinic may have a more adequate approach …
