Social Work Students' Attitudes Toward Teenage Pregnancy Prevention: The Importance Of Religiosity And Feminist Ideology, Pilar Thompson Borne
LSU Master's Theses
Effective teenage pregnancy prevention is a topic of debate in current literature. Religiosity is frequently examined in the research, and studies typically assess associations between behavior patterns and level of religiosity. Feminist ideology is another theme found in the teenage pregnancy prevention literature that mainly examines how feminist perspectives contribute to effective prevention approaches. The current study examined the interrelationships among religiosity, feminist ideology and attitudes toward teenage pregnancy prevention. A self-report survey instrument was used to collect data from 69 MSW students, a sample surveyed for the first with the current study. A significant positive correlation was found between …

The Experience Of Social Workers Who Use Thought Field Therapy Or Emotional Freedom Technique, Tara Nicotra
Theses, Dissertations, and Projects
This thesis explores social workers' experiences with their use of Thought Field Therapy (TFT) and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) with their clients. These techniques, which are also known as tapping, involve tapping one's own fingers in a specific sequence on specific points on the body while tuning into undesired feelings in an effort to eliminate feelings of distress. For this study, I conducted semi-structured interviews with twelve clinical social workers. The Conceptualization And Integration Of Conscious Breathing Into Clinical Practice, Mia Rachel Gutfreund
Theses, Dissertations, and Projects
The purpose of this study was to explore how clinicians integrate conscious breathing into their practice as psychotherapists. Sixteen therapists practicing in the San Francisco Area were interviewed for this qualitative study. Participants provided rich data in terms of how they conceptualize and utilize conscious breathing techniques, as well as how they think about the place of conscious breathing within traditional "talk" therapy settings. Faith-Based Organizations And Legislative Advocacy: A Qualitative Inquiry, M. Lori Thomas
Faith-Based Organizations And Legislative Advocacy: A Qualitative Inquiry, M. Lori Thomas
Theses and Dissertations
Since the early 1990s, religion and matters of faith and spirituality have become a focal point in numerous arenas beyond the individual and traditionally sacred. With President George W. Bush's White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives of 2001, the Charitable Choice provision of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act that preceded it in 1996, and the myriad of legal challenges that followed, matters of religion have become paramount in political discourse regarding social welfare. The viability of faith-based social service provision and the organizations providing the direct services have been the focus of speculation, debate, and …

Social Work, Independent Realities & The Circle Of Moral Considerability: Respect For Humans, Animals & The Natural World, Thomas D. Ryan
Social Work, Independent Realities & The Circle Of Moral Considerability: Respect For Humans, Animals & The Natural World, Thomas D. Ryan
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
Social work's conceptualization as to what it is that entitles an individual or entity to moral consideration, or as having moral status, is thoroughly anthropocentric, and is articulated in complete disregard of the context of our fundamental evolutionary continuity and our embeddedness within an evolving natural world, and flies in the face of the reality that we already inhabit mixed communities and a wider household. It is deemed to be obvious that we are islands of moral value in an otherwise valueless natural world.

Hardiness And Job Fitness For The Intensive Family Preservation Specialist: A Correlational Study, Sandi Fisher
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
It is costly to train the counselors who serve in intensive Family Preservation Services (IFPS). The hiring agency must pay for traveling expenses in addition to any fee paid for training. When an IFPS worker chooses to terminate employment before the end of two years of employment, this puts a strain on an already tight budget. This problem could be alleviated by finding an efficient pre-hire screening instrument. The three personality traits described in Hardiness Theory literature: commitment, challenge, and control, are traits often used to describe the ideal IFPS worker. This study assessed IFPS workers to determine if the …

Parental Child Abduction: Practice Guidelines For Social Workers, Kim Marie Carol Walker

Parental child abduction is a social problem that has an impact on a growing number of families. lt is now likely that social workers will encounter families affected by parental child abduction at some point during the course of their practice.
