This report is a mock analysis of the Fairhaven Harbor Development for L.E.E.D.-ND. L.E.E.D.-ND (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-Neighborhood Development) is a pilot program that promotes sustainability and green building. Fairhaven Harbor is a mixed-use neighborhood development located in the historic district of Fairhaven, between 8th street and Harris Avenue on Padden Creek. This development is a prime candidate for L.E.E.D.-ND certification in that it is easily attainable. To be L.E.E.D.-ND certified the development must meet all of the prerequisites for each of the three main categories and score at least 40 credits. Currently the development does not meet …

The Fountain District of Bellingham, Washington offers the perfect location for a LEED-ND development project. In 2007 residents from the Columbia, Cornwall Park and Lettered Streets Neighborhoods launched an outreach to revamp the commercial area commonly known as the Fountain District (City of Bellingham, 2009). Since 2007 the City of Bellingham has been formulating an Urban Village master plan for the Fountain District and based on those plans we developed our site design proposal. This theoretical study examines the psychosocial discourse in humanitarian aid. International humanitarian assistance through psychosocial interventions is now common in complex emergencies – the context that emerges from war and violent conflict that is unique to the contemporary era of globalization. Two-hundred-eighty-six acres of land were recently incorporated into Bellingham's urban growth boundary, allowing the land to be developed at higher densities. Alliance Properties has proposed development of a high-density, mixed-use urban village on 135 acres of undeveloped land on King Mountain near James Street. An extension of James Street will continue up to Van Wyck Road. Sixty-eight acres will be used for residential land, 46 acres for open spaces and parks, and 21 acres for roads. The purpose of this qualitative study was to evaluate a community's beliefs, attitudes, and experiences regarding their neighborhood's environmental health issues and the ways in which individuals utilize social capital (the degree to which a community collaborates and cooperates) to improve their environmental health. Research correlating social capital with health status shows that the higher the level of social capital in a community, the better the health. An understanding of why some groups exhibit more social capital than others is important in improving the public health system. How do deliberators reason together on what is best? Planners, policy analysts and community developers should know how to recognize the validity of participatory deliberations claimed to give groups voice in policy decisions. Policy analyses have lost power in the face of postmodern critiques of objectivity. Practical policy analyses require more than objective validity for they express results of what Jürgen Habermas refers to as normative rationality. This study followed John Forester's recommended research agenda for rigorous empirical analyses of policy process deliberations using Jürgen Habermas' Theory of Communicative Action. Over the last few years the city of Anaheim has undertaken several significant redevelopment projects designed to revitalize some of the older, more run down areas of the city. One of these projects was the redevelopment of the Jeffrey-Lynne neighborhood, an area that had been plagued by crime. The redevelopment involved the complete remodeling of the existing housing structure into lower density housing within a gated community. This study assesses community satisfaction, prodevelopment attitudes, environmental concern and intent to move on Virginia's Eastern Shore, an area that is experiencing population decline, high poverty levels, and competing interests of economic development and environmental concern. Poverty levels on the Eastern Shore differ substantially by race with 35 percent of Blacks compared to 12 percent of Whites living in poverty in 1990. Human capital theory suggests that rural residents, and rural minorities in particular, have lower incomes and more unemployment because they are not increasing their human capital through education and training. Paul Ricoeur and Jose Maria Arizmendiarrieta were contemporaries whose separate works, when brought side by side, provide insights into how community development might proceed at the intersection of the domains of ethics, politics, and economics. In complementary ways they have addressed the reciprocal responsibilities of a society toward its citizens and vice-versa. In this study I make note of the parallels between Ricoeur's definition of the ethical aim and Arizmendiarrieta's educational aim as this may be gleaned from an anthology of his sayings as well as from statements of those who knew him very well. This study explored community building as a method for addressing the problems faced by Mexican Immigrant and Mexican American communities. One of the assumptions that underpinned this study is that community building can be used to counteract racist attitudes toward ethnic minorities. Historically, people of Mexican descent have been the victims of such attitutudes have found their way in oppressive social and economic policy.

This study focuses on downtown revitalization. It examines the effect of public investment in Downtown Norfolk in relation to various theories that have been developed to explain the growth of the central cores of cities.

A chronology is presented of the events that marked the beginning and the first fifty years of redevelopment in Downtown Norfolk, Virginia.
