Following the youth-led reformative wave that swept the Middle East in 2011 during what came to be known as the Arab Spring, the media landscape in the region has continued to diversify and change alongside technology and social media. The Impact Of Microfinance On Poverty Reduction In Egypt: An Empirical Study, Hala Elhadidi

Microfinance has become a critical tool in credit markets for poverty reduction and socioeconomic development. Yet its impact is still questioned and varies from one country to another and from urban to rural areas. This article examines the role of Egyptian microfinance on household income. A cross-sectional survey interviewed 780 established and new clients in Greater Cairo and rural areas in Egypt. The stratified random method was used to collect the data from urban and rural districts. The findings, using multinomial logistics, reveal that microfinance had a positive impact on the household income of women borrowers who spent three years …

This paper discusses the matter of Egyptian unaccompanied migrant children (UMC). It firstly provides insight into the manifestations of this problem in Egypt, major factors and reasons why the phenomenon of UMC occurs, and highlights the risks of the problem. Subsequently, the actual efforts for solving the problem are analyzed, elaborating on the Egyptian government’s curtailment policies. The paper concludes by providing recommendations on how the crisis of UMC could be resolved in the near future.

This paper sheds light on the Productive Families Program, one of the initiatives by MOSS to combat poverty. The program was created with the aim of enhancing the economic capacities of poor families who are capable of developing productive skills through providing them with the resources, trainings, and funds to contribute with various products or services, including handicrafts. Currently, there are around 2.7 registered families under this program and who depend on this program for their livelihood. This policy paper addresses the current Egyptian Government’s decision to establish a New Capital City (NCC) and analyzes the challenges facing the policy of moving the offices of public employees of the Egyptian central government from Downtown Cairo to the new administrative city halfway between Suez and Cairo. These challenges include the size of government bureaucracy as determined by the level of its modernization and technology usage, accessibility to housing and services as determined by the payment methodology, and connectivity between the old and new capital cities based on transportation efficiency and the methods of moving employees.

In Egypt, some 450,000 students graduate from technical and vocational schools each year. Yet just over 50 percent are employed immediately following their graduation. This brief explores the kinds of jobs that are available to these graduates, and the factors that affect the remaining 50 percent who do not join the work force. The report aims to understand the types of training that best prepare students for the available jobs, differences in opportunities for male and female graduates, and connections between work and the home and/or community circumstances that may hinder employment. In Egypt, the past decade has witnessed a sharp increase in the prevalence of cesarean section (CS) with the most recent Egypt Demographic and Health Survey documenting a CS rate of 52 percent, suggesting that cesarean delivery might be overused or used for inappropriate indications. This study aimed to explore trends, practices, and costs associated with CS deliveries to women, their families, and the health system, as well as factors that may contribute to increased use of CS in Egypt.
