This paper addresses some of the problems with the foster care system in the United States, and seeks to propose a solution to the extensive wait families experience when adopting a child out of foster care. Specifically, it studies the positive impact of government-nonprofit collaborations on participants in the system, and emphasizes the importance of placing children in stable environments.

Does An Adoptee’S Race Affect The Probability Of An Interracial Adoption?, Timothy C. Yates

I estimate the effect an adoptee’s race has on their chance of interracial adoption. I use data provided by the 2007 National Survey of Adoptive Parents for the linear regression, one of the only sources of individual data on adopted children. The study tests the idea that adopting outside of one’s race provides greater utility to the adopter since it is perceived as more altruistic relative to adopting within one’s race. For the purpose of the study, any circumstance where at least one adoptive parent differs in race from the adoptee is considered an interracial adoption. Ultimately, the results indicate …

Although adoption has long been studied, the rising current evangelical trend of adopting has brought about a new series of questions, mostly pertaining to, “What is it like to be a Christian adoptive parent?” The research goals were to understand how faith motivates one’s decision to adopt and the assimilation of the adopted child into the family, to examine the parallels between theological adoption and human experience adoption, and to see if parents have a qualitatively different kind of bonding or affection for their biological and adoptive children. Much research on property owner participation in wildfire mitigation activities has been done in the USA and Australia but knowledge of Canadian property owner participation in wildfire mitigation activities is limited. This research aims to reduce this gap, by examining what mitigation activities wildland-urban interface residents in Alberta are adopting and factors that contribute to adoption. A mail survey collected data from a random sample of residential property owners in six Alberta communities during 2007 (n = 1,209). The survey assessed respondents' wildfire risk perceptions and factors influencing their adoption of wildfire mitigation activities. The results were examined among communities …

Using a sample selection induced bivariate probit model fitted to data collected from small scale, resource poor farmers in Western Oromia (Jimma, Ilu-Ababaor, Estern and Western Welega zones), I define and simulate different strategy (Pure and Mixed) scenarios. The scenarios provide the extent to which the adoption of maize technology package (HYV-seeds, fertilizers and planting methods) among currently non-adopter maize growers could be increased with the use of different strategies. Among the scenarios evaluated, I find a strategy that emphasizes information approach, as a pure strategy, or when integrated with education and/or the agent approaches-in a mixed strategy, significantly influential …
